ITV start ITV1 +1 tests on Sky.

ITV have tonight started tests for ITV1 +1 on Sky ahead of it launch in January 2011.

Press reports from 2009 did say that Virgin will carry this channel from launch in England and Wales.

How long will Northern Ireland have to wait until someone in UTV decides that it is ok to show the national programmes hopefully not as long as we had to wait for UTV HD

As the licence holder for Northern Ireland only UTV can provide ITV (Channel 3) services there. Unless they become part of ITV plc you will not get ITV1 or it's associated channels, equally we don't get STV or UTV. On the upside at least for now your region retains it's own identity but I guess one day the whole network might have the same contractor.

I am sure you know anyway but on 853 you can get the national ITV audio description service which broadcasts ITV1 London as the regional licences do not provide their own.

BSkyB to keep Channel One to stay on air after New Years Day?

DS Forum poster Tadpole has posted:

(An) Announcer for the channel last night was quoting "End of January" as the closure date, referring people to a Sky website in order to get their fix of Star Trek, etc.

From Monday 13th December, all Filmflex rentals will be for 48 hours rather than 24

Is this permanent or a Christmas thing?

I hope it is permanent and catches up with DVD rentals. Go to Blockbuster and you get a DVD to watch for 2 days.

I also find that my wife and I often never complete a film in a single viewing; you decide something after 9pm when the children have gone to bed, then only watch half of it and then want to watch the rest the following night after they have gone to bed again but that is more than 24 hours, problem solved now!

Without trying to change subject but relevant, I note the TiVo has an interface to Blockbuster online in the USA, hopefully this will appear in the UK version on the Tivo box to extend download capability for films.
