8.5% is very good, you're lucky , I know I'm very lucky. Let's appreciate how lucky we are.

Moaning about a 8.5% pay rise at a time when people work their arses off for £6.50 an hour is tasteless. An they don't moan because they know their is a queue of people at the door waiting for their job.

---------- Post added at 19:03 ---------- Previous post was at 18:51 ----------

MY happy thought started as the opposite. On the way home yesterday I spotted that a ridge tile on a neighbour's roof had become dislodged by the storm and was left resting precariously above their side entrance.

One of the children answered as her parents were not in and as I was explaining what had happened I noticed 2 swastikas scratched quite faintly into the black paintwork of the front door threshold. I was utterly shocked but did my best not to draw the little girl's attention to them and walked home wondering who the hell would do such a thing (they are an Indian family) and how awful my neighbours would feel when they noticed them.

Quite by chance, however, I just discovered that Hindus use a swastika as a symbol for harmony so it appears my concerns about a racist motive were unjustified and I've learned something new. :)

Just got a letter from Lidl's customer services about my complaint on their cling film. Very apologetic and they're looking into it, I get a refund and they've also sent a £5 shopping voucher. Wasn't really after blagging something for nothing but it's a nice gesture. :)

If I was being cynical I'd say that they probably do it as routine.

Anyway up I got some of Sainsbury's cling film on Monday and it works perfect.

Not yet but I loved individual deathmatch and used to build special levels for us to frag in.

Mostly open arenas with tempting arms in prominent positions open to sniper fire, plus back passages to get round. Don't muck about just blast 'em.

Congratulations Maggy.

Mine is only something I did for a laugh. For the last year I've had Vanquis and Capital One writing, offering me a credit card. I've always shredded them but today I got yet another one. Apply online and get a decision in 60 seconds. I thought sod it, why not and applied. Told the truth about income and employment status and they said I could have a credit card with a limit of £200! When it comes it is going to used only for strict emergencies.

If you have never had a credit card before, my advice is to use it a little but pay it off every month in full, this will then be very positive to your credit rating.

Same here. It happened to me once too but I rang them up and had no problem getting the £25 charge removed. Never paid a penny interest in all the years I've been using credit cards.

I use 1 most of the time but i pay off in full with my own money each month as it is a good thing to do for the credit rating and when purchasing items online a CC is also very good for protection.

But i do agree for the people who would not pay off a CC each month then a CC is a bad idea.

Us too. Using credit cards as described above makes a lot of sense and offers additional consumer protection for items valued over £100 even if you've only used the card to pay a small deposit. If you don't like the idea of owing money you can have a card with a very low credit limit to avoid serious overspending and then pay money into the account which you then use to spend when you need to. That way you never owe anything because all your spending comes from the money you've paid in and you're monthly statement will always show you in credit.

2 bets on 2 different days won me money. Yesterday, used the last of the free money I had in SKY Bet to put an each way on a horse in the National which won me £4.88, so I put 88p on Leicester to win 2-0 and Vardy to score first goal, at odds of 22/1 and won myself £20.24, was tempted to go for a third one but thought quit while ahead so now deciding what my next bet will be on.

Indeed as there are plenty of mugs out there who lose their winnings near enough straight away.

Thanks nash and den. Ironically, I only did the 88p bet because I am anal about odd amounts of money so thought if I don't win I've at least got an even balance, now I have an odd one again!

Cheers guys - I'm just hoping he'll do well enough to get the final year bursary which will save him £3k. Even then he's still had to pay out an additional £200 'admin fee' just for the privilege of being able to work 4 days per week for nothing...

I'm especially proud of him because I've long felt infant/primary education is a field in which there are far too few men. If it were the other way around I think there'd be demands for a campaign of positive action in favour of the minority but that never seems to happen when it comes to men for some reason.

If he sticks with it I really do think he can go to the top and hopefully do something to put right the dreadful imbalance.

Going down to Cornwall by train tomorrow to see my mother in Sennen and do some domestic tasks for a couple of weeks. The OH will hold the fort at Heero Towers whilst I'm away.

Looks like the weekend will be good weather at least. :)

The first and Last Inn has re-opened. I can't believe that they closed it before Xmas and stayed shut over New Year and Easter. A buddy has suggested some kind of tax issue (scam?) as it opened in the first week of April with a new team.

Apparently they've poached the fish chef from the Gurnard's Head Hotel.:D

l hope you get down there safely although whether you arrive on time is another matter as trains has been delayed , cancelled and passengers have had to get on the buses provided right throughout the last 4 months in parts of Devon and Cornwall but you might be lucky seeing the weather forecast for this weekend old bean.:D
