Surely the best indicator of the future of TV is to analyse what current young people watch.

My observations indicate teenagers watch very little live TV (perhaps Eastenders and X Factor) and can't be bothered to record programmes to watch later, but Netflix is very popular.

---------- Post added at 09:33 ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 ----------

I should add that teenagers I know tend to watch Netflix, YouTube etc on phones and tablets, not on a conventional TV

The BBC3 TV channel will be switched off by February next year, the BBC Trust has confirmed, despite accepting that almost 1 million younger viewers could desert the corporation as a consequence.

As expected the trust confirmed its rejection of the corporation’s controversial bid to launch a BBC1+1 channel in place of BBC3. The report gave given the corporation three months to return with a full proposal for the use of the BBC3 TV spectrum.

Maybe this is why VM appear to have given up on the TV side of things in favour of broadband speed upgrades?

If the BBC are expected to re-use the BBC3 spectrum and won't be allowed to use it for something cheap like BBC1+1- what is the point of closing linear BBC3? How will it save anything?

This household wants to go to a single box per room, where the box is a Smart TV.
Happy to consume services from Virgin Media via Smart TV and PC's (apps) e.g cloud based recordings etc.

All our TV's/PC's/TIVO's are linked by Ethernet cable to the SuperHub so don't want the 2 TIVO's, 2 V+ boxes or the landline.

My only other stipulations are - don't want a sky dustbin lid on the outside of the house and will never be a direct customer of BT again (;) (EVER)

Interesting prediction. But what happens in five years' time? How will the average pay TV customer then get their fix?

Rather than a traditional PVR with a large hard drive in it, there quite possibly still could be a box, but it will access the cloud for recordings and only require a very small storage device. Live channels could be via IPTV, or how VM deliver them now.

Well that's because most teenagers are living at home and their parents are watching their old fashioned stuff on the main telly!

Actually not true in my experience!! sadly

Both my kids have 36" flat screen TV's linked to PC's and V+ Boxes in their rooms.

Both watch most stuff on their phones. One of them actually sits at her desk in front of the TV watching stuff on her Samsung phone.

I just don't get it

Wait until their eyesight goes from staring at tiny screens and they'll be glad to have a bigger telly then.

Neither do I, TAST! Why anyone would prefer to watch TV on their mobile phone or computer screen, I really don't understand.

Clearly, they are not getting the bigger picture. :D

Just about all the under 30s I know life revolves around Facebook and YouTube. Even if they watch something on Netflix they will be constantly checking Facebook so to them it makes sense to use their phone or tablet for all their audio visual requirements.

Yes, you heard correctly, the Evil Dead franchise is being resurrected, and it’s landing exclusively on Virgin Media next week. That means only you can watch Bruce Campbell’s bulldozer chin and chainsaw hand make a comeback, and we are very excited. Whether you’re already a fan of this cult favourite, are partial to hilarious horror comedies or simply on the lookout for a new show to get stuck into, you won’t want to miss this Virgin exclusive. And what’s more, you’ll have supreme bragging rights among your mates as Ash Vs Evil Dead isn’t available to watch anywhere else in the UK!

So looks like Virgin launch their attack on Sky Atlantic and its exclusves at last ;)

I think in the old days we used to watch tv with our mates together, I remember watching Star Trek, X-File etc with friends, and you could discuss afterwards, now "they" like to discuss on facebook, and twitter while watching TV.

the "kids" at work spend most of their lunch on youtube and facebook

That's a good move and something they should do more of , they have an On Demand service make the most of it.

VM don't need a channel they can quite easily add content to it's On Demand service , it needs to add more over the course of a year.

Edit: After watching the trailer that's not for me lol.
