LGI's small stake in ITV plc won't affect the location of ITV Be in VM's EPG - it's a small investment stake so such matters would be negotiated in the usual way. I expect it to be quite prominent as it will be a popular channel.

I reckon that it will indeed be very popular with vast swathes of viewers. It certainly won't be popular with me though. Sounds like they are just gonna show worthless drivel (made by talentless hacks - especially the script/story writers) about the lives of even more talentless hacks.

Still, I hope others enjoy it, goodness knows I like a lot of stuff others do not.

ITV will, no doubt, be looking at how well ITV Encore fairs in the pay tv market. If it is a success, they will probably be further pay-only channels. They are probably locked in a market research phase at the moment and will also have to examine how ITV Be performs and how they can further differentiate their FTA channels.

If you think ITV Be will be a popular channel. Where do you think Virgin will put it?

A)
116. ITV Be
174. ITV2 +1
175. ITV3 +1
205. ITV4 +1

B)
119. ITV Be

C)
205. ITV Be

Media Boy HQ is going with C.

Who cares where they put it, if I want to watch the channel I'll be able to find it no matter where they put it. There is too much fuss about where channels are put in the tv guide.

I did wonder if it might be on the infamous 245 channel which we thought truTV might get. ;) I'm not sure where it will go but will guess B) 119. There's probably a Be+1 channel to factor in as well.

You might but the EPG number heavily influences viewing patterns - people stop channel surfing when they see something they like hence lower numbers are more valuable.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

Broadcast: Good News, Bad News for Channel 5.

It is understood the Viacom/Channel 5 deal will be finalised by 20 September, giving the US media giant – which operates MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon – full control of the public service broadcaster.

However, existing MTV commissions will not end up on C5 once the deal is closed. Viacom-operated channels have exclusivity agreements in place with pay-TV broadcaster Sky over original content, which means shows such as Ex On The Beach and Geordie Shore are unlikely to move to the free-to-air network in the near future.

Media Boy HQ also thinks with Arqiva offering new capacity to launch new TV services via Freeview we think one of the slots will come from VIVA with VIVA moving to Channel 5 + 24 slot on Freeview from mid-November 2014.

I hope that the Viacom takeover will improve programming on Channel 5, but to be honest, I'm not holding my breath!

I agree. ITV appear to be aiming at having a bouquet of subscription channels in the not so far off future, and this may include ITV2, 3 and 4. I certainly would not rule out an ITV Movie channel, although this is likely to show only films over 2 years old due to exclusivity rights.

All non Sky Movies (Sony, Film4 and TCM) do the same.

To the broadcast companies, yes, but surely not to the highly intelligent people who post on here and are therefore more than capable of finding the show/channel they want to watch :D

Not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that you think that VIVA will join Freeview and replace C5+24?
