Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

there's no point in complaining - the ASA are useless - they dont fine or impose any proper control - the worse case result would be BT aren't allowed to use the AD again. they should be forced to readvertise with a corrected advert.

BT can put whatever they want on bt.com, it's their website.

They could put that the moon is made of cheese if they wish, nothing the ASA can do about it.

No, the £5.25 is the line rental including the 5p talk plan. In other words, half price.

I don't think "fair" enters into the equation. Life isn't fair. NTL, like any other business, wants to take in as much cash as possible.

Its not just offers tho ntl have this problem for years and with various stuff, it goes from basic stuff such as ringing for tech support to things such as the 10meg upgrade where some people who rang up got the modem others got told they couldnt have it and I got put back on 2meg, this is when cableforum intervened. So in lots of situations ntl are inconsistent with customers because the CS reps just arent kept informed and probably have to 2nd guess what they tell the customers half the time.

they also might put a big one page advert in the papers saying how "we have 2 million customers who prefer to pay for their broadband" - that's what BT have just done!!!

you think a capped oversubsribed 10meg beats unlimited 1/2 meg?

you can download less per month
speeds will likely be no better at peak times (which remember is when most users are using their connection, so no good it been fast at 5am if they zzZZ then) speeds could even be worse which I think is more likely
users having to pay for modem upgrade or do ntl stomach the cost

So I'd like to know the point of advertising why 2million BT customers enjoy paying for their broadband because they wont have to pay 50p a min support costs when if you DONT pay for broadband you also wont have to pay a 50p a min support cost either.

Also the advert fails in another sense - ie. those 2 million BT customers only enjoy paying for broadband because probably 99% signed up when paid for broadband was the only option. You can't advertise that your customers enjoy paying for a service when the 'free' alternative has only been available for a week AND a lot of your customers will be tied into a 12 month contract so cant leave yet anyway!

NTL and BT both play the same game here, they assume customers who dont ring up are happy with their service. Whats more likely is customers use them because they the big names everyone knows and if things go wrong alot of the time they just cant be bothered to complain and just get on with their life. If people do ring up they get fodged off with excuses (this happens in BT as well as NTL)

And when is this going to happen I doubt it will happen soon.

While I keep getting high pings with and without the router on 2mb what use is the 10mb.
What NTL need is to move back to having the network monitored and intervention before it goes wrong.. Back to techies daily checking and testing the network not waiting for customers to fight their way through faults.

I shouldn't think so. If that was the case anyone could buy bill boards and put what they like.

They could, but it's not an advert.

I have no idea. It isn't fighting talk, it isn't harrasment, and it isn't rude.

Whats the chances of ACTUALLY having the service cancelled if you go for this 'backdoor' discount?

As that'd be pretty inconvienient......

etccarmageddon 21-04-2006 15:21

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

you can always cancel your cancellation as they require 30 days notice - so you just ring them within the 30 days and tell them you've changed your mind.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

I emailed NTL explaining i wasn't happy with the price and that other ISPs are now offering cheaper broadband at faster speeds, i got a reply saying they can't offer me anything because these type of offers don't exist.
