HD does make a difference but i'm not sure the comparison is noticeably marked on Virgin. I'd heard a while ago that Sky had dropped the bitrates on their SD channels to drive take up on their HD.

Not sure if this is true or not as I don't know many people with sky.

True the difference does seem even bigger between some channels. Haven't studied things to much recently but sky sports hd an sd the sd is quite a lot worse British eurosport was really bad at one point though huge difference between there sd and hd channel. And the BBC used to have the least difference between hd and sd might all be a little different now though or not.

You cant see the difference with SD and HD Channels. Maybe with Sky you can.

I can tell the difference between SD and HD very easily, we have a 50" Samsung LED.

I have Sky's HD movie channels and they are poor quality for something that's supposed to be premium product, I can see bad MPEG artifacts on the channels particularly during dark scenes or very bright colours.

I stated this in a separate thread a while back and wholeheartedly agree that I believe especially with sky sports their "SD" was not the same "SD" rate as others and thus not "standard"

Some of SD channels on Sky are appalling including their own branded ones.

You either have terrible eyesight , a poorly calibrated or small TV set or have it connected via scart. :D The HD channels are massively better on both Sky and VM in my experience.

Agreed. Sky News HD has a far superior picture to its SD version
