Just defending the tosh your coming out with. TiVo doesn't have Lovefilm and didn't have Iplayer however the code was written , sky's box didn't have anytime.+ until a software update. Your basic theory seems to be that the Sky+HD box is at it's limits without support to back that up. And this is all coming from the TIVO fanboy.

Given that VM is rolling out a new box with TiVo functionality, and they didn't just put TiVo code on V+ box, I would assume the hardware needed to be beefed up in some way. They're not simple PC architecture underneath.

Fair to assume Sky+HD box wouldnt host TiVo code. Maybe it can take new apps tho.

Not possible with the present hardware.

BT are implementing a full i-player though.

I suspect there will be some ground given by Sky and the BBC but there's probably more to it than meets the eye anyway, there always is with Sky.

Both BT Vision and VM got in early with iplayer though, since then the BBC trust have reviewed the syndication policy, and it's now a case of you have to offer one of their standard players, there's no middle ground of offering the content on anything but a version of iplayer anymore.

Sky have only recently complained that the BBC won't bow down to them and make them their own version.

Isn't a fanboy someone who thinks everything about a particular product is perfect despite people pointing out shortcomings?

Check my posts on how I think V+ handles padding better than Tivo and that the V+ padding system should be implememted on Tivo. Also my concern over Tivo SD performance.

Anyone who thinks Sky HD boxes have as much functionality as the current Tivo box, is not looking at the functionality properly and, surely, they would better fit the description of a fanboy?

And I've said this a few times; I'm comparing boxes as they stand now and ones announced (Youview) with regard to functionality. I've also said I fully expect Sky have something in development to compete.

But you don't know what Sky's box is capable of that's all I'm saying , in the back of this months Sky mag it states with more innovations to come so Sky must be confident in it , and i never slated TIVO just merely said apps were available elsewhere.

Which part of "I'm comparing boxes as they stand now and ones announced" wasn't clear? :D

It's guesswork at the moment as what Sky will add to their current box.

Sky have got a lot of things that are better than VM, but at this point in time, Tivo (with it's faults) is way better, functionality wise, than the Sky HD box.

So as we stand TIVO has remote record apps on all major smart phones a working iPad app and full sky red button service and sky box office access, you seem to want to me to slag TIVO off which I won't it's clever technology but as I said before Sky+HD is no dinosaur.

Where have I ever asked you to slag TIVO off?

All the things you list as missing from Tivo have been announced as comming to tivo.

The unlimited apps that can be added to tivo, that currently can't be added to sky, the search and whishlist functionality and 3 recordable tumers are a few things that Tivo can do, but Sky HD can't.

TBH, this is getting pointless to me now.

Here , here to that considering we were mentioning functionality now and you announce things that are coming , I tend to try and deal in facts as they usually don't lie , the TIVO premiere has apps and the lost over 200,000 customers last quarter and their base is now down to 2 million.

We were discussing Boxes available now, that can handle connected services that have started to appear now and will grow in the future.

I see no problem distinguishing between the two concepts.
