Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

Thinking of either getting a Kindle now or waiting until the (decent) Android ipad clones come down to the £300 mark.

Anyone got any thoughts on that?

Just got kindle. Not thinking about ipad (or clones)

Depends what you want it for. I got kindle because I like to read on holiday, and had to carry lots of books with me..now I have just one device that holds 3,500 books.

First impressions..i like it

Useful feature, changing font size, very handy. It is quick down loading.

I like the collections method (storing several books under one heading). Bought 4 dresden files books for hols, stored them together

Big selection of free classics, may well read winnie the pooh again :D

I bought the leather wallet, fits nicely, and feels good.

Will update more when I play.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is rumoured to be retailing around £600 (Check Amazon) so if it sells well I think you might be waiting a while for a decent sub £300 one.

Wife is thoroughly impressed with Kindle. Actually prefers reading from the screen than reading a book now!

Has anyone converted epub, txt or pdfs files for the Kindle yet? Or any other formats of books they already own for it?

There are a few cheap iPad Android clones coming out. The best one is probably the Archos 101.

You can't compare an LCD tablet and a Kindle. The e-ink screen is design to replicate a book as much as posible to make it as comfortable as possible. A tablet won't be as comfortable to read but more flexible. Soo it depends on what you want to do with it.

She better not! ;)

But yeah I can't go through Christmas now without getting her something else. Serves me right for trying to get my Chrimbo shopping done early...

Well I just bought my first book in preperation - which was 'and another thing'. I did make sure it has text to speech enabled as well.

My (admittedly limited) research seems to suggest you can make the menu system read out loud too so it should be good.

Although looking at gaz's picture I think I may be able to manage with my Mgoo glasses when it's on it's maximum font size :)

I've now had a £150 box sitting right on my doorstep in plain view of the street all day. Thanks Royal Mail.

The sooner the company gets privatised or even replaced by monkeys, the better.

Now that's out of the way.... Oooh.
