The importance of the Final Five, and later their identity, wasn't decided until later, well after they had initially decided that there would be "12 Cylon Models" but only initially show us the Significant Seven.

e.g. When it was later decided that the Chief would be one of the Final Five, the writers suddenly had the problem of his & Cally's child Nicky, who would now be a Cylon/Human hybrid like Hera... except Hera is meant to be *the only hybrid* and has long been deemed vital to the storyarc.

So... they had to "retro-fit" Nicky's parentage (RDM's words) by making Hotdog the biological father, removing the problem of having another Cylon/human hybrid.

So I think it's possible that once they had decided on the FF's backstory & importance, they suddenly realised "oh crap, that screws up the numbering" & created a 13th who would be No.7.

Still, it would be a bit of a red herring if "Daniel" isn't important in some way...

I have heard:

Spoiler:

He may be Starbucks father

I always thought that they were following the number of colonies - 1 model for each

So... ep 16 "Deadlock"

More of a character ep, after the recent excitement of the mutiny.

Looks like the booze loving bitch part of Ellen's personality wasn't part of the fake memories implanted by Cavil... although you can see why she would be upset of course, finding out that Saul had not only been sleeping with a Six, but had also got her pregnant, something that Ellen & Saul had never managed.

I'm guessing the Five and the Baseship will stay with the Fleet afterall.

I'm a little concerned that giving Baltar & his harem a load of assault rifles may not be a good idea...

Mo's blog from the Chicago Tribune, updated for Deadlock, complete with an interview with the ep's writer Jane Espenson:

And a trailer for next week's ep, "Someone to Watch Over Me" -

Ah... from reading Mo's blog, it seems this was yet another episode which had a fair bit cut from it (I hope the DVDs re-integrate all the deleted scenes!).

I had the priviledge this evening of watching a slightly longer rough cut at a frak party I attended tonight. And there was something really, really key that they had to cut for time (the rough was 11 minutes longer): there are not enough Marines left alive on the Galactica now to handle all required police & civilian duties.

At the beginning of the rough cut version, the Marines give up on the food distribution, sensing a riot. They abandon the food rations...immediately after they leave, the Sons of Aries show up, guns in hand, and take what is left. Also before the credit roll, Adama/Roslin/Lee are arguing about introducing Centurions into the Galactica to pick up the slack in security issues and policing the civvies on the ship. Adama refuses to allow it. At the end of the episode, Baltar's plea to Adama is longer -- he clearly wants his little cult-turned-militia to pick up guns in service of civilian policing and food redistribution. Use his cult, instead of Centurions.

The whole plot thread became that much clearer with this extra material, and gave greater depth to the internal struggle Adama must be going through as he watches his ship become "blended."

Arming Baltar's harem certainly makes more sense than putting a load of Centurions on Galactica...

Oh, Chief Tyrol, you really are an idiot

No surprise that Boomer was working for Cavil still.

How long before he brings his fleet of Baseships to kick the ailing Galactica's arse?

The Starbuck stuff was very good... does seem to give strength to the theory that Daniel was her father.

It all but confirms Daniel was Starbucks father doesn't it? How else would he know the song.

I think I've got most of the plot threads pinned down, but remind me which one's Daniel again ... :spin:

He's the missing artistic one that we are yet to see.

Interesting point. One of the main characters in Caprica is called Daniel who just so happens to be associated with cylons in a way.

Yeah, it's just me thinking out loud with it all. As they hinting at him being Starbuck's father now... And if you read the plot of Caprica, then you may want to think out loud.

Hmm.

Wasn't overly keen on the flashbacks this week in Daybreak part 1. If they'd been earlier in the series, then fair enough... but this is meant to be the finale...

Still, the Old Gal will be going out in style next week!

Be nice if they managed to get Adama to say this at the end ;)

"It's too bad she won't live! But then again, who does?"
