You're always left in the same state you started with.

To me, a fleeting pleasure is better than no pleasure at all.

And using any of those things to escape from things is dangerous, especially considering that the first two can form dependancies and in fact so can the third.
You see, this is what puts me off christianity, not everyone that drinks or takes drugs is an alcoholic or drug addict, in fact, I'd say only a very small percentage are. People get addicted to all sorts of things, I know someone who's addicted to mars bars! Are they evil too?

I'm not saying that am I, look at my comment in context, it was in response to advise being given to someone that was most definately encouraging escapism. I'm not against drinking, I like a drink myself. You're reading a bit too much into what I said.

But I'm still trying to work out exactly what's wrong with escapism, taking it out of context again, everyone does something to escape reality, even you. Occasionally when I've been out in the past, got drunk and or taken some form of drugs, I've made very good friends that have enriched my life.

To me, it's a sad life if drink, drugs and sex are the only pleasures I've got.

I have plenty of pleasure other than those listed above. Kronas has none whatsoever, so he's gotta start somewhere, and these are quick wins... :)

Who said they had to be the only pleasures? You're putting words in to people mouth's now.

Interesting point, is it the making of friends that is the worthwhile element?
If so, do you need drink and drugs to make them? ( talking generally, not you personally ;) )

Care to point out your reference there?.. or was that just a synical point score?
I'm fully prepared to admit if I've taken someone out of context or taken more from a comment than I should.. it helps if you actually mention it when I do rather than try to degenarate the discussion.

No, people don't NEED to take drugs or drink to make friends, but there might be something about the first impression they give off, e.g. more confident, funnier, whatever, that attracts the people they're with to them, my friends know I'm not like it all of the time, they're not stupid but we all like a bit of craic when we're out. (well, most of us)

When I was 18/19 I was quite shy, so when I went out clubbing I would have alcohol and sometimes take a few other substances, which I found relaxed me a lot and I could talk to strangers and make friends.

Now I'm older, happily married, still drink and still have the friends that I made when I was 18, in fact I was best man at one friends wedding a few months ago.

So what If i needed something to relax me and take away my shyness, its benefited my life a lot.

I think he does have them, he just doesn't realise it.

The point of reference is just about everything in your post #149. :)

Slightly pious, very sanctimonious and far too serious.
