Guess not, then. I turned mine off for just a few seconds before rebooting -- mine's a different box than yours, in case that matters. (Mine's old kit -- SB4100, which I've had for 5 1/2 years.)

I hope someone else in Oxford can confirm/not-confirm the upgrade for you.

Was you on 2MB, then upgraded 4MB and downgraded to 2MB again? If so try rebooting your modem once more, then check 192.168.100.1 using 'root' as the user/pass.

I was upgraded to 4mb today automatically, I did not downgrade the speed myself.

I checked 192.168.100.1

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 2048000 bps
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 200000 bps

Weird?????

Also, my newsgroup downloading is very poor tonight so hopefully thats a sign that they are doing something to the network.

---------- Post added at 22:01 ---------- Previous post was at 21:58 ----------

Since the 4meg updates have started happening my downloads have been spiking up to 4meg and then settling down to 2... is this down to NTL unlocking the network and not handling the speeds quite properly?

Just done a speed test here and it's still 2meg (manchester baguely server) Of course, after my post a few pages back I realised something. I had switched down from 10 meg because I haven't been getting great speeds. Primarily, I think, because of the student population. But a lot of them are vanishing for the summer - I could have stayed on 10meg for a few months and maybe enjoyed super speeds for a while. What an idiot!!

The upgrades will be done by uBR / card and not necessarily by each big 'area' so it's quite possible that while someone in a town is on the 4Mbit someone on the other side of town is not :)

Hopefully Portsmouth will be upgraded on the 15th... :dozey:

No they don't, as stated several times in this thread already that is business as usual work and any overlap between the two is purely coincidental. Some people in Swindon and Southampton areas are already reporting being uplifted.

How embarassing, I was reporting upgrades and slow speed. Well, I was using my laptop which had decided to connect to my neigbours unsecured wifi . So I was reporing his cable modem and his speed. I am still on 2Mbs.

At least I found the problem before I made any calls to bombay...

You're not alone. Myself and others have experienced the same issue. I'm in the ST16 (Stafford) area and found myself on 4 meg, according to the modem config, but was dropped back down late last night. The pattern seems to be that you either have an older Ambit 100 or 120 model modem.

Bascially what has happeend probably is that the new config file was on the server before it was meant to be rolled out, and by you rebooting you got it. NTL then removed the config file from the server and when you rebooted again you picked up the old config file. It happened alot last year with the 1 to 1.5 > 3 mbit upgrades if I rmemeber correctly. Someone correct me if Im wrong......

Sounds plausible, the fact that I was only get getting around 2.3Mbps, whilst on the 4Meg config, suggests they were testing the waters somewhat.

I am in Rock Ferry, but i use a set top box to connect so if you have a standalone modem you have to wait for them (NTL) to send you the config file. Hope it does not take too long for you.

The upgrade to 10meg would take less time as it was a smaller percentage of the customer base the 2mb is the largest part.

The phrase all good things comes to those who wait comes to mind, be patient it will happen one day
