I've just phoned 150 customer services, spoke to a great Scotish guy who said what can I do for you? I said I want an upgrade on my broadband, he said no problem hang on, he came back and said Mr Marchant you are now on 10meg. :D :D :D :D

Officially no-one should be upgrading any existing customers at the current time. There are some CSAs who hav been incorrectly upgrading speeds.

Please do not call in in the hope that someone will upgrade you, this will increase call volumes in to the centre. People can not be upgraded at the moment this is because some of the older modems out there do not support 10Mb speeds (currently), customers using these modems will be contacted to arranage a new modem (or a solution could be implemented) and others which support the speed will be upraded automatically and everyone should be done by January (all being well) https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2006/02/3.gif

The 10Mb will be available to new customers, installed with a new modem. If people are upgraded incorrectly with a modem that does not support the speed then there is the potential for them to lose the service completely, which I am sure no-one wants.

Well I think that I have eventually been upgraded. The new config file is cmreg-mota4100-bund03.cm.

Strange thing - since this was loaded a few minutes ago, docsdiag has stopped working. Anybody else using docsdiag have this issue?

1st 128K took 282 ms = 464794 Bytes/sec = approx 3867 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 281 ms = 466448 Bytes/sec = approx 3881 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 281 ms = 466448 Bytes/sec = approx 3881 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 531 ms = 246840 Bytes/sec = approx 2054 kbits/sec

Ok latest situation for me. Second guy was very helpful.

The billing system doesnt allow 3 changes in 1 month and he tried to force upgrade me back again, he acknowledged that the 1st guy messed up downgrading me and because I now got to wait 1 month to reupgrade I got this month half price. So now I am on 2mbit again for a month. The 1st guy must have deliberatly downgraded me.

got off the phone with tech they said although people are on 10 meg now its still in its pilot stage until its properly rolled out in december and most likely wont get full speeds until then.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

bunch of useless arses.
they wont do it because its a 'pilot scheme' i dont see why some people can get it and others can't its complete rubbish. Iam seriously thinking of cancelling and going to a competant company who know what is happening with their own services!

If thats your ip address in the prevoius post, i would suggest hiding the last 2 octets. Not good practice to leave your IP lying around

I don't know what speed testing site some of you lot are using, but if the test is using a file less than 1mb, the the results aren't going to be very accurate! Most of the sites say that the test isn't suitable for anything over an 8mb connection anyway. You are testing a 10mb connection, the best way to do it would be to find something like a 15mb file, right click, save as.. and then check the result/work out the result that way. When i test works 100mb connection, i never get accurate results unless i download a massive file.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Having got the upgrade about 40 minutes ago, I have just had a call back from the CS rep I spoke to this morning. She has just spoken to her manager and has confirmed that it will not be available until December.

It would seem that it must be some sort of dream that I have it now.

On a different note, it seems that this config file may disable SNMP. That is the most likely explanation that I can find for docsdiag ( http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/docsdiag/ ) not working.
I wonder why NTL would want to do that?

Now I may be dreaming/tripping/suffering from lack of coffee but has this not been disabled for a while?
Certainly since the modems got new firmware to stop some 'naughtyness'

Worked upto the moment that the new config file applied. I was running it from cron every 15 seconds while talking to CS. It stopped in the middle of a report when the new config file applied.

Hi everyone,

Just got off the phone to a very nice welsh gentleman, I said Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢d like to upgrade from 3mb to 10mb, I waited a few seconds and then he returns to tell me that the signal has been sent! Came back upstairs, and the modem status page reads

Maximum Downstream Data Rate: 10240000 bps Maximum Upstream Data Rate: 512000 bps

I'm using an NTL:Home 120 modem, Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m only getting about 5mb, same as everyone at the moment, but Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ll give it a couple of weeks for the network to rebalance, I expect there is still work to be done.

All the best guys,

Right, im in the sidcup area. Have been told that I can't have the upgrade till early december. At first it was a complete stonewalled NO. So after doing a lil more reading here, I rang up sales as a new customer, lo and behold I could have 10meg fitted. So again I phoned CS's and was then told that my STB (silver samsung) was going to have to be changed. Do'h. Not quite sure what to say at this point, I asked to have the SACM installed and could I be put through to someone who could organise this for me. The guy downright refused to do this for me. Blood boiling, but before I lost my rag I hung up. Now, i've spoken to CS's again, again I pretty much got told what has been said by everyone here so i got asked to be put through to Retentions. Some geezer who was very appologetic basically told me that the samsung deffinitely didn't need changing and had no idea why I was told otherwise.

Can anyone esle in the DA14 postcode area tell me if they've been upgraded yet??

Bear in mind that this site has NOT had an official announcement from ntl. Nothing has been confirmed. So when an ntl employee gets a bit annoyed at all these people calling up about this, you should be able to understand it.

it could have been worst - you could have asked to speak to 'retentions' and been told no such department exists - like I did once. you're a paying customer - if there's no tech reason why you can not have 10meg and you ask for it then I'd be considering downgrading to 1meg.

Yo .. all

CS have told me that the Ambit 100 (which I have) is no good with the 10Mbit upgrgade. I now have the upgrade but they have told me I should not have been given it earlier today. It seems that they are all in a bit of a mess - I should have only been given the upgrade by an auto procedure after my modem had been upgraded. I then asked for a modem upgrade now and was told 'no can do' - since its working working fine with 3Mbits and thats all you should have at present ..

hmmm

:(

p.s. (my modem configs are upgraded but I can get no more than 3Mbits download - but 512Kbits upload)

I got told the same but the moron actually manually downgraded me back to 2mbit, because I think my billing wasn't updated he seen me as 2mbit still and then sent the 2mbit config back to my modem leaving me downgraded until next month. I have also said my modem is faulty (isn't) and got an engineer coming but now I feel bad because I dont think he will just switch it because I want one I was hoping they would just send one in the post.

Also if anyone knows please, when have to wait a month for next package change so I can upgrade again is it billing month (next statement date), billing month (next payment date direct debit) or 1 month from now regardless fo statement date? thanks.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Well Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m not having much luck with this 10 meg service. Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m not sure if Jimbo or Bill may be able to shed some light on what the issue may be, but hereââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s the story so farââ‚Âà ‚¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¦

Tuesday I phoned and upgraded from 3 Mbit to 10 Mbit. My 3com CMX reset, as it should, but it would not sync. After 30 mins or so I called faults who did their tests but couldnââ‚Ãâ €šÂ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t find anything wrong. I rebooted the modem and left it another hour or more, still no lock. I again phoned faults who booked an engineer and CS put me back down to 3 Mbit. The CMX synced fine once again with the lower 3 Mbit config.

Today (Wednesday) an engineer came and replaced my modem with the ntl:250. It synced at 3 Mbit fine. Another call to CS and I was upgraded to 10 Mbit. Same problem as yesterday, it wouldnââ‚Ãâ €šÂ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t sync and so another engineer has been booked for Friday. Once again I asked to be put back down to 3 Mbit, which is working fine.

When trying to sync the 250 modem repeats the following cycleââ‚ƚ¬Ã‚¦

1. Sync flashes rapidly

2. Sync goes solid and Ready flashes rapidly

3. Sync stays solid with Ready flashing rapidly and Send/Recv blinking intermittently.

4. Ready goes out and Sync flashes rapidly again.

Occasionally Ready with flash slowly with Sync solid.

To me it appears that the modem is downloading the 10 meg config, but itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s not happy and then resets again. As Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ve tried two different modems, which both work flawlessly at 3 Mbit, I would guess there may be a problem with the config on the server I connect to, rather than an issue at my end.

Does anyone else have any better ideas?

May I just add that the CS people and the faults team that I have been dealing with have been great, friendly and helpful. A big thumbs up.

Andy.

I'm sure they're mixing up the samsung with the pace! if the samsung cant take the 10meg, and thats what I have also been told by people at ntl, then I think whoever gave the goahead to buy all the samsungs should be sacked... less than 2 years old and they are already door stops! I'm sure I read somewhere on a forum that they are good for 38mb??

Got home from work and in spite of being told I'd been upgraded - I was still on 3 meg. So phoned in - spoke to a dead nice guy who did upgrade me. I'm getting the full speed - no probs. He credited me £30 for the inconvenience AND gave me half price family pack on my tv for six months.

All

I phoned CS for the 2nd time now and got put through to a excellent agent called Ian, he basically answered my questions for me, if you have a STB (Set top box, for those who have wondered what the hell that means.) you cant be upgraded for the next month or so, whcih is fine by myself, as he also said if you want i can send a engineer out with a modem and then you can have 10mb.

I said no thanks as i would prefer to keep my STB, but the good news is the STB (SAMSUNG MODEL) will handle 10MB easily.

There are very valid reasons why you can not have 10Mbit, such as those that I wrote above.

Telling people that it is a national rollout is very misleading tbh.

There are some very nice people working in CS. I just spent 5mins talking to a lady who said thay had just recieved instructions to not upgrade ne1 to the new 10m tier. She said she knew that some customers had been upgraded, and that she had done 2 or 3 herself, but the new intructions where to not do any more upgrade because the network had not been fully upgraded yet and those customers who had been upgraded proberbly wouldn't be getting the full speeds. She said that all 3m customers would receive the upgrade after Xmas.

I told her I was dissapointed but thanked her for explaining the situation to me. She finished by saying "leave it with me and I will see what I can do".

10mins later and I have it :)

She was correct about the speed though. It is only d/l at about 4.5mb/s although the upload is spot on at about 5mb/s

able modem speeds vary widely, as determined by your cable company. Generally, download speeds are up to 100 times faster than a 56K modem, while upload speeds are between 300K-768K. Check with your cable company for product specifics. Be assured, however, that Toshiba DOCSIS modems support maximum DOCSIS transfer rates.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

I called up today said a friend was upgraded this morning.
Told it was a pilot and as few upgrades are being done as possible.
Asked to downgrade to 1meg for the month so I dont pay the same as peole getting way more speed and nice lady also gave me 1 month free.

Going to the upgrade option I get 2meg or bund03. I think I read that bund03 was back to 3meg so will stay at 1meg for time being. I mean save me £20 a month (and this month free) = not bad!

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

Surely this cant be right, I phoned NTL to upgrade from 3mb to 10mb and all went fine (Thank you Matthew in CS). I have done a speed thest via ADSLGuide and get the following results :

Downstream 178.8 Kbps (Changing Values)
Upstream 499 Kbps (62.4 KB/sec) 538 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I have reset the modem, but my Downstrean is still only 3mb (sometimes even 1mb)

Any suggestions ?

Been on the phone to CS just now to see what was happening with my 10meg? He said sorry we can't upgrade you just yet, I said you what? I was on the phone earlier on and the guy said you now have 10meg Mr Marchant, now your telling me that I can't have it? Not until the upgrades department tell us it's ok to do so he said. WTF is going on at NTL, one part of the country gets it, the other part of the UK gets told your upgraded but 4 hours down the line your speed is still the same.

They've told you the same as they told me earlier, they said I was on the 10 meg service at 3.10pm at 6.52pm they told me I wasn't upgraded.

Hmm that's all very well, although I don't really see how you can have two customer that live on the same street paying the same price, one has 3Mbps and the other has 10Mbps, and ntl won't upgrade the 3Mbps customer.

Yes, this is a staggered rollout done by geographic regions, but that seems borderline unlawful. IMHO, they should have upgraded the network in region X so that everyone in that region could receive the service before they rolled it out to anyone in that region.

A classic case of lying to get you off the phone the first time. It sounds as though it hasn't been rolled out to your area yet mate, just have to wait.

The whole situation is a complete farce. From scanning the posts, it seems that some of us (myself included) have been upgraded before we were actually supposed to be, resulting in a variety a problems. These issues include modems/STBs not being able to deal with the new increased speed and certain areas of the network not having been fully upgraded yet.

My guess is that NTL was planning to distribute new modems and complete all necessary work nationwide before upgrading everyone to 10Mbit. However, since a few CS Agents have jumped the gun, there is now a state of disarray amongst those still seeking the upgrade and those who have it but are having problems.

Just phoned CS and spoke to the obligatory nice Scottish woman. At first she told me it wasn't available yet but I said I was aware of other people getting it and asked her to check with her supervisor. When she came back she said it was available as a trial so the 10meg wasn't guaranteed but she could upgrade me and I'd get between 3 and 10 meg depending on what was available on my part of the network. 60 seconds later the modem rebooted and I was upgraded.

Been downloading a compressed copy of the Linux kernel at about 550kB/s, bandwidthplace.com rates me at 704kb/s (or do they mean kB/s?)

So not full 10meg but for a free upgrade I'm happy :)

One observation is these extra speeds do highlight limitations in your own network. For example - on my laptop downstairs wirelessly i'm getting the full 10 meg, but upstairs I'm getting 5 meg. Before you hassle NTL - make sure it's not your own problem!

OK, people need to STOP HASSLING NTL.

I just spoke to a lovely Scottish lady on the phone, who explained to me that not only will this be rolling out at the moment - the next four to six weeks - those people who HAVE been upgrade (yes, I'm looking at everyone here) has been upgrade INCORRECTLY. They will likely be downgraded, as their modems are either having, or will have problems once the network is finished switching. So stop chomping at the bit for full capacity 10MB, I doubt you even get full capacity 3MB. Plus your internet will end up busted in many cases!

There are very valid reasons why you can not have 10Mbit, such as those that I wrote above.

Telling people that it is a national rollout is very misleading tbh.

I was going by what's written here which says it's for new customers and those who upgrade from lower tiers - nowt there that says it's new customers only in specific trial areas. sure you're right Frank or are we all suffering from NTL's communication or should I call that confusication!

why do i get the feeling there are gonna be a lot of people who've upgraded from 2 mb to 10mb gonna be on this site complaining next bill time that there being charged 37.99 a month because what they thought was a free upgrade wasn't.
i hope everybody who upgraded asked what they will be paying next time the bill comes in.
because when i asked i was told the 10 mb free upgrade was for present 3mb customers only.
if a 2mb customer wanted 10mb they would have to upgrade to the 37.99 tier.
so if you want my advice ask if its free before upgrading from 2mb.

From reading the posts it is evident that what you have posted above is incorrect. Firstly, the speed is UP TO 10Mbps (clearly posted), which obviously applies to modems unable to support the full 10Mbps. Once the rollout is complete, I'm sure if you are one of these customers you can get a modem upgrade.

Secondly, it has been clearly stated that this is a staggered rollout and not available in all areas yet, but that existing customers who are within a rolled out area can request the upgrade.

Thirdly, the whole idea of a staggered rollout is that the work that needs to be done is done in stages, and the end result being that all areas can receive the new speed.

Lastly, I don't see any CSRs that have jumped the gun here, merely customers who think that they are entitled to 10Mbps despite the fact that it is not available in their areas for all the reasons above.

The ability to provide this high speed data is not limited to 12K on the standard set up, as it is able to download at up to 76 times quicker than this! 38Mbps to be precise but it is unlikely that we will get to see this.
The reason it can download at these speeds is because it is intended for useage on small business servers and workstation collections. Up to 16 PC`s can be connected up for provision from one modem.

As everyone has upgraded to the top tier, 3Mb - 10Mb, it seems only natural that they'll have to pay £37.99 for it. You get what you ask/pay for. If anyone was unsure, they should've asked and got all the facts before jumping the gun.

.....and seeing as everything is far from factual at the minute with this Upgrade. I think there will be a few :Yikes: when the bills are opened.

Frank, I am well aware that the new service will be up to 10Mbit and I have reiterated numerous times that I am prepared to wait to see what happens. As for the staggered rollout: I requested the upgrade and was given it despite the fact the my area is still undergoing work and is not ready for the upgrade - having spoken to another CS Agent, Glasgow and the surrounding areas are not fully ready for 10Mbit. So why was I given it when I requested it? I wasn't even advised re my modem's capabilities.

So forgive me, but it sounds like the Agent who upgraded me did indeed jump the gun.

Ok im getting sick of everbody who have found it easy to upgrade! I made 4 calls today to cs to upgrade my 3mb to 10mb,
The 1st call went well with a nice lady trying to get me connected but she had never done this before so she asked tech support for help....i was on hold for 5 mins she came back and said sorry the service is still being rolled out and i would recive it sometime in dec :(
The second time was a complete nightmare, ive only been with ntl for 1 month and heard scary things about cs staff! I said can i be upgraded please and she said i cant go any further than 3mb, She has never even heard about 10mb and said that i must of been thinking of telewest!
3rd time was short and sweet, spoke to some bloke who said that the network was still in the early stages of being tested and come back jan/feb 2006!
The 4th time p**sed me right off, knowing that my mate has it and that i can recive it i told them this and she said sorry 3mb is the tops for you, so i downgraded to 1mb untill i get the "MAGIC LETTER" she said i would recive when its in my area.

Being with telewest for 4 years was bliss compared to the s**te cs service i have recived in the past opening month of my time here. Lairs and idiots only spring to mind :(

I just called CS and spoke to someone who said the trial blurb above and said mid to end of December. When questioned about this forum she spoke to a supervisor and said that they could do it on a trial basis but I would not have any tech support during the trial. I said that was OK and she said she would do it.
A few seconds later she came on and said that it would not let her do it. She tried again and still no luck.

I'm in Leeds btw....

Also, I was warned about trying the downgrade to 2MB and then use the website to upgrade, way. The reason is that you are only allowed two tier changes per month. If I tried to go to 2mb and then attempted to upgrade to 10mb but it only gave me 3mb, then I may miss the auto upgrade...

Liars and idiots for correctly telling you that sorry you cant have it.

Its like saying my mate on spondoolik broadband in Sweden has a 35 mb connection, should I demand NTL give me a 35 mb connection?

I can just see it now, all the greediness people have because they want braagging rights to the 10Mb lines first, will cause nothing but chaos for the rest of us. Seriously people last time I saw this much dummy spitting was in the infant school playground.

The upgrade might not be available in your area - and, all the same, tech support are there to support customers with their technical problems. This really is one for CS, I think. :)

I didn't say you couldn't get it, I said don't be disappointed if you can't. :)

So why was I given it when I requested it? I wasn't even advised re my modem's capabilities.

So forgive me, but it sounds like the Agent who upgraded me did indeed jump the gun.

For the purposes of this reply, I am going to assume that you were on 3Mbps before and so didn't pay any extra for the upgrade. So the point I wanted to make previously is that people appear to expect the upgrade immediately despite the fact that there is a staggered rollout going on.

In your particular case, you say that you are "prepared to wait", but also that you phoned up to request the upgrade. Anyway, from what you have said above it appears to be another case of bad communication in that CSRs serving Glasgow were told to upgrade people who requested and that the area was ready. Who knows exactly what they were told. Anyway, you were given the upgrade because you asked for it and they had been told to give it to those that asked for it. You were also well aware that it was still being rolled out, so how you can be unhappy with something that is faster yet is still in the implementation stage is a bit suprising to me.

Had you not called, you would have received the upgrade when ntl were ready. You chose to call and not wait, and they upgraded you. Now you are unhappy because they have not fully completed the network upgrades, which is hardly suprising considering they are still working on them, which you knew from this thread.

Well I rang earlier to get a SACM installed due to using an STB at the minute. The CSR asked me if it was because I was having problems with my current connection, and all I said was that I was thinking ahead. She told me no problem and it will be next week....the next thing I know she was asking ME if I wanted to have the upgrade :) I couldn't believe it, I never even asked about it.

I'm one happy customer :)

Well I tried to get upgraded twice this afternoon and was told each time it wasn't ready but will be by the end of the year

As far as I am concerned that's good enough for me bearing in mind that it is less than 12 months since they last upgraded the network

I think NTL deserve some credit for doing this as fast as they have done and I will not continue to badger them

If only they were all as patient as you... :)

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

I think there is a big farce in communication within ntl, read this below of my nightmare today, a CS guy downgrading me when ME as the customer didnt tell him to.

Upgraded via the website to 10mbit.
Noticed Upload speeds good to 512kbit but download limited to 4-5mbit and thought ok contention.
Checked out the net and found that it seems to be a problem with ntl100/120 modems but 200/250 are fine.
Rang CS explained problem and asked of a new modem could be sent to me.
Got told 10mbit not available yet and as a 2mbit customer I shouldnt have had it, I tried to explain I am now top tier having upgraded and will be £37.99 payer, the rep wouldnt back down so decided not to argue more and we ended the call.
30 Secs later modem resets and I am back on 2mbit, so the rep took it 1 step further and deliberatly had downgraded me.
Tried to upgrade again via website, now an error message cannot change package again during this billing period, at this point very angry.
Rang Retentions spoke to a very helpful guy, he tried to force me back to 10mbit but system was blocking him as well, he explained about it is still in trial etc. and I said I understand but in that case I shouldnt have been allowed to upgrade via the website in the 1st place and the service has essentially benn grabbed from me.
He sympathised and refunded me half of this month's costs, and said upgrade next money I am sorry.
I thanked him and said he was a top guy.

So now I am back on 2mbit my area (Leics LE3) has 10mbit available on the tier migration page but if you have a ambit 100/120 modem you will top out at 5mbit even if you set it to 100mbit full duplex.

Ok so I could only get 5mbit but the solution isnt to downgrade and leave me ****ed of for a month.

I too will wait to get the upgrade when everyone else has tested it for me :D

I'm having a SACM installed next tuesday so I will be able to have it no trouble when the full rollout is done, and I will be able to get rid of the TV that rarely gets watched.

How does it leave you F***ed as you put it?

You are back on what you were on previously (2Mb) and only having to pay half on the price for a month.

You should've left well enough alone and stayed with they 5Mb like everyone else instead of jumping ahead.

Well because it is simple it isn't what I want. If I tried to upgrade via the website and got something like "sorry this is unavailable to you right now due to blah reason" I would be annoyed yes but not half as bad as having it then someone taking it back of me after.

Also others did ring CS as well to ask for new modem's I wasnt the only one, but it seems I was the only one who got downgraded as a result, I know now I should have left alone but I am not psychic.

I am perhaps wound up more then other's because many aspects of my service are not satisfactory at the moment and this just added to the pile, ntl just cant do anything right for me at the moment, the 2nd guy apologised for what the 1st guy did and said it was harsh but was powerless to fix the problem.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

As I have not spotted any post / information that tells us what area has been done, what is coming next and so forth, I tried the Web Route to upgrade. All I got was BUND03 Service with no Price on there. I am guessing this is 3mbit, so i never went ahead and clicked this.

I saw a post on the other thread from a Guy in my sort of region - so I give CS a call. The Answer I got was "Its been trailed at the moment", "We will email you when it is avaialble" and I asked him if my modem could cope, been as its a Motorola SB4100. He Assured me it will cope no problems and if required they would provide a New modem anyhow.

Next is all this talk about 10mbit not been 10mbit and maybe 5-6 type of thing. Now if you go out and get yourself a 11mbit Wireless router / Card - will you get 11mbit?? Of course you wont, you will get 5-6 im sure if you speed test it. Much the same for Wired Network cards really - you normally only get max 80% with a well configured set up.

So I suppose the question is thus - do we just sit tight till end of Dec and see what happens? Is there a list somewhere of the areas done we could check against? I see conflicting posts, one says Staggered roll out and other say trailing in various areas - which is it?

Right have I got this right.

I phoned for the 10Mb upgrade and know get between 5 - 7Mb

Because my area hasn't been set up for the upgrade explains why I don't get the full whack, when it has been set up hopefully end of Dec I should then get 10Mb.

Or my Terayon cannot handle the 10Mb and will need replacing

(I've read here that it can and cannot handle the speed and NTL CS told me it can handle way beyond this, what do I believe)

It's "up to". If anyone gets a steady 10Mbps, I'd be surprised. :)

Give it time, see if improves - if, in a couple of months time, you're not getting pretty high speeds at 4am, then it's certainly something to think about.

But, before then, I'm sure we'll have a definitive 'the Terayons can handle..' update. :)
