There's an unusual situation I discovered on my Stream box tonight.
Food Network isn't available as a linear channel and on demand content isn't listed in the Catch Up or Boxsets sections. But searching for individual programmes results on viewable on demand content. I wonder if this is a sign the channel could be added to Stream boxes soon.

Watch out Sky - EE unveils new way to watch TV that brings back most-wanted feature

EE is taking aim at Sky with a new TV box that offers a swathe of features including the ability to record right on the device itself.

Sky is about to get a new rival that is bringing back a very popular feature. EE - which is most famous for its speedy mobile network -has just announced the launch of its new TV Box Pro at an event in London. It gets all the functions you'd expect - including access to streaming apps - but it also packs an in-built hard drive for storing content and even recording four shows at the same time.

Although Sky Q has long had this functionality, more recent gadgets such as Sky Glass and Sky Stream have moved away from physical hard disks with content now held on the cloud instead.

I think Virgin have stopped adding +1 channels, CNN HD is the most likely channel to launch , Boomerang depends if they are phasing out the channel in the UK aswell and replace the HD version with Cartoonito

I feel WBD may axe Boomerang in the UK next year.

I presume all those TBC channels are actually FAST channels. It might be useful to identify new channels as such as they are quite different and you cannot even record them.

Also, were you not suggesting that Discovery+ would launch soon? That would finally complete the list of 'main' streamers we should have on Virgin if they are to be viewed credibly as a content aggregator. Hopefully, they will then move on to the smaller ones, such as Acorn TV and Shudder.

Sky has still to reveal what will come after Sky Cinema Wizarding World HD.

Still to get the launch date for Discovery+ as deal was only done this week.

4 FAST channels are set to launch by November 17th.

I doubt we'll get those +1 channels that are on Sky.

+1's are primarily used as a way to squeeze a bit more ad revenue out of advertisers, however, because Virgin is the most expensive platform to broadcast on and because many use VOD instead these days, it wouldn't be profitable to add timeshifts for the more niche channels.

On the other hand the +1's and fast channels make the program guide look fuller which may encourage new subscribers.

Quality not quantity!

Give me Talking Pictures+1 by all means, or some other proper movie channel to replace TCM (I'm sure Sky gave them a bung to stop broadcasting!).
QVC Extra doesn't float my boat....

As much as I would love it if CNN International returned to Virgin TV, don't forget that they have launched a FAST channel as well so my fear is that this FAST channel might be more likely to be added instead of the main live TV channel but the new owners - Warner Brothers Discovery-- do seem more open to maintaining
their traditional channels as well so there is some hope

They aren't mutually exclusive. Rakuten carries both the International service and the FAST channel.

In that PM I got from a source it says at the end:

"Not for release on Forums but ok for your Blog / X."

That why I was not allow to post it on Cable Forum.

If I was allow I would post it on the best forum on the web - Cable Forum.

I would LOVE to post all info on Cable Forum, X and my blog.

After all I have been posting here since 2006.

@jfman I don't care about how many people check on my X feed or my blog.

If they was no Cable Forum I would have not been doing this for 17years.

*My Blog is just to give readers more information not posted online.
*X is just to give news out right away.

So my point stands, makes no sense at all.

Why would you be able to post to the world on twatter, but not a Uk forum (which lets face it, is not anywhere near as big).

Just utter nonsense.

Yes, once it's on the web with no paywall, anyone can read it. Doesn't matter if it's Cable Forum, X or another website.

It's pointless giving MB grief about this situation, it is what it is and there is nothing that you, I or MB can do about it. I can't post information on DS either. The situation came about because of poor moderation on another site where posts from disruptive elements where left in place but informative posts were removed. So there is now a blanket ban on posting to open forums. If you need further info feel free to PM me but I can't change their decision.

I'm sure they realise that and don't have a problem with it. They simply won't release information to anyone who will post it on open forums.

I don't work for Virgin Media in anyway.

I even say so on my blog.

But I do redo some posts to make information from my sources easy for joe public to understand.

I mean sometime in raw pm I get - channel 4 is launch a new HD channel - so I need to redo the C and add the capital C and I would also add "set to" before posting online. So you would see - Channel 4 is set to launch a new HD Channel.

---------- Post added at 10:33 ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 ----------

Note: As far as I know Channel 4 is NOT launching a new HD Channel anytime soon.

Yes, but if MB ignored an instruction not to post information on a forum, they’d stop giving him information.

It can be a minefield tbf to MB the company i work for will only allow information to be released on certain platforms aka X, IGN etc sometimes we are able to disclose stuff elsewhere it depends what the publishers etc state in the agreements.
Ofcourse once it goes on X there is nothing stopping anyone from posting it onto a forum etc.

Nothing has change since November 1st here is a link to that story you are asking me about - Warner Bros Discovery signs new deal with Virgin Media.

https://twitter.com/MediaBoyUK/statu...76315874656754

The story is no longer at the top of my X Feed due to so many new story's breaking since November 1st.

Also I can only post up to SIX links on my PIN post on my X Feed at the once time.

NOTE: I was told the deal was only signed on October 31st so I don't see Discovery+ launch on TV360 and Virgin Media Stream boxes until Mid 2024.

No, it's not, Vince. I changed over to the 360 some time ago and I prefer it to the V6 TiVo.

Obviously it doesn't have exactly the same features as the TiVo and I think that is really what most detractors are unhappy about.

On the 360 it is the recording/wistlist options which are poor when compared to V6.
Overall the 360 is a better unit.

Do brand new subscribers to the 360 get a primary box that will record or are they all streaming only? If it can record, how many tuners does it have?

Is it just Wishlists that are missing now? What about Suggestions and QuickView?

360 has hard drive with 6 tuners unlike mini boxes or Virgin Stream, It has TV show recommendations on 360 , Wishlists is a patented TiVO function so I doubt that will ever get added.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

I wonder if Suggestions is also patented, so they got round it by creating Recommendations?? If so, they should do the same with the Wishlist function.

The only thing missing then would be QuickView. I doubt that this function is patented as I think YouTube has something similar.

Wonder if there would be the ability to record programs on the 360 from any of the channels that it appears on into one collection. I'm sure we used to have it on one of its predecessors.

When I made the switch to 360 both my V6 boxes were updated so I kept the recording capacity of both boxes. However, by making the switch I lost all my V6 recordings as the software is quite different. With the two boxes I get to choose which one any particular show is recorded to.

All three boxes would be converted so you keep the same capacity

Hi Spiderplant.

Quick question, if/when these upgraded V6 boxes with HDD go down, are they replaced like for like? Or are they downgraded to a mini with no HDD? Leaving just one with HDD of course

Thanks

Like-for-like.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

That's good to know. If the 360 incorporated QuickView and, to a lesser extent, a form of Wishlists then i'd be happy to convert to the 360 as the voice activated function would be really helpful to the sight impaired.

You would lose all your recordings anyway when upgrading or leaving for a new supplier.

All you need to do is to note down all your titles and add them to your watchlist on the new software, which is what I did. Anything else that’s not available on demand will be repeated down the line anyway. In my case, that was only about half a dozen titles.

This is why i like SKY stream if you have to change your box your recordings are still there as they're in the cloud, i believe Virgin stream is the same?

Sky Stream doesn't record as such it just finds every episode that's available on demand then makes a playlist

No, you've always been able to have up to three V6s converted. It would need a technician visit if you have three, but they shouldn't swap any boxes.

Horizon, which drives both Virgin 360 & Stream, is designed for cloud recording. In the rest of Liberty Global's operations it is used that way. But in the UK & Ireland the broadcast agreements have forced VM to use hard disks instead. So at present no, there is no cloud recording on Virgin Stream, & you have the ridiculous situation that if your Broadband goes down you lose the majority of access to the hard disk in your V360 box if the Horizon server is unreachable.

That is stupid of vm once it's on the hd you should be able to view it without need for broadband but i think SKYQ was similar at first if the sattelite signal was lost.

The system has been imposed on them by LG, & they have had to create a workaround. Horizon was developed long before VM was taken over. The same applies to broadcast radio on VM. There are plenty of complaints that the V360 won't record the radio stations in the 900 range, nor is there an EPG. Broadcast radio was taken off of mainland Europe's cable systems at digital switchover, so there was no requirement for it on Horizon.

I didn't realise that you couldn't record radio which I do a lot of. Another reason not to change to the 360 as well as no Quickview or Wishlists.

Exactly! It's the main reason i'm still with Virgin. When the V6 is retired there won't be anything compelling enough to make me want to stay.

NBC News Now closes on satellite on the 21st. If it's not viable to continue on satellite I can't see it continuing on Virgin as it's more expensive and has a smaller customer base.

NBC News Now seems to be using Sky News content as a sustaining service out of normal hours. I wonder if this is the start of both services carrying content from the other service to boost overnight content. In which case it could be confusing to carry both channels.
