ive bought an ipad fans. i know youre all excited by this. tv anywhere is a heck of a lot better on the ipad. understandable i suppose. plus now i can watch tv on my ipad as im using my phone as a hot spot. which works even though i could never watch tv anywhere on my phone. thats ironic.

anyway why on earth isnt bbc 1 on the tv anywhere app.

I believe it's a rights issue

Iplayer app, filmon or tvplayer app will get around this issue

Simple answer - the BBC want you to use their iPlayer. I believe you can't watch BBC channels on Sky Go either.

Because clearly VM don't have the rights , it's also not available on Sky Go. Download the iplayer app and you can watch both live and On Demand there.

As l understand that there is True Movies 2, and True Crime outstanding ?

And did someone say that a NEW Tivo box is coming out at £9.99 with no upfront costs - maybe wrong ?

That's what I was told today if we go for QuickStart but if you want virgin to dissconnect old TiVo and put TiVo 2.0 in its £99

Tsv anywhere is ok but issues like you can watch on 4g or watch live recordings means it's only good with wifi

BBC3 HD (163) now been removed, BBC3 SD (106) now links to BBC3 online for TiVo customers only.

Why do they moved BBC 4HD to 163 to remove the gap

Cant see BBC4 HD moving unless/until BBC4 SD moves. I think VM are waiting to see where the slots go on the other platforms before they start shunting.

There were plans for a BBC1+1 service but because of the ongoing budget cuts at the BBC it has been put on the backburner for now from what l hear.

Wow that would be a real head turner they have hardly any original content. Personally I'd be amazed if they wasted there time.

I find Virgin's scrambles for budget content quite pathetic. They're never going to compete on that front and they'd be better off spending our hard-earned dosh on Sky Atlantic or AMC or Amazon Prime, rather than pi**ing around in the bargain basement at the local Spar looking for series no-one else wanted.

My concern is that they'll jack up the price of Now TV, too, which so far has proven reasonable, even with Sky Sports (the Sky Sports day pass is £6.99 or less).

I've just been having a more detailed look at pricing of VM's XL , Sky Family pack and Sky Q Silver.

They priced as follows

VM XL TV (when took alone) £39.50
Sky Family bundle £36 rising to £38 from June
Sky Q Silver £54 rising to £56

The main selling points appear to be

VM XL TV - BT Sport channels included , HD included and TIVO

Sky Family Bundle - Sky Atlantic (with exclusive HBO and Showtime content) , HD included , Decent range of Boxsets.

Sky Q Silver - 1 multiroom box included with the ability to use two tablets also , UHD entertainment content soon , record 4 whilst watching a 5th , 2TB storage , certain recordings available to take on the move , Sky Go Extra included , free repairs.

Being I already have Multiroom I could be talking myself into Sky Q although the Sky premium channels are looking way to expensive. Sky Family bundle and multiroom would cost me £50 from June. The big gripe I have is the upfront costs.

Does anybody here use the TiVo apps, apart from the main ones like Netflix*, YouTube and iPlayer etc?

If some of the less popular apps were to be removed, not having to support them may speed up the box.

*Do new TiVo customers still get 6 months free Netflix, I wasn't offered it when I recently upgraded to TiVo.

Surely, if a new channel comes onto the True channel network, surely it must go onto the VM system.

I know for a fact that True Channels, now have TWO channels that are NOT on the VM system.

True Movies 2, and Crime.

These channels are on other networks. So l cannot why VM cannot put them on now. VM are quick enough to put on 'crap' channels, that no one will watch.

Keep up the good work MB

Not a True channel, but VM have today made another movie channel available for you on channel 835.

Gizmodo HTML5 support will also bring with it the introduction of an app store to the TiVo platform. Though it's yet to be named, it will be built using Opera's App Store as its foundation, and will house many on-demand apps such as Vimeo, and Virgin's time-sensitive themed content portals.
So according to this article, Opera is just the software which powers the app store. Maybe people misinterpreted this as suggesting Opera was coming?

I don't get this obsession with people wanting loads of apps on Tivo. given the 5 or so year replacement cycle. Get the right tool for the job, such as a Roku, which has a much more frequent update cycle.

On my Smart TV, I can choose which apps to download.

Perhaps this should be the case with the TiVo??

Users with little use for apps could have a faster box, whilst those wanting more apps would need to understand that their would be a trade off with speed.

I do agree like a smart tv, it would be better to download the apps we want

From what SP said, I think it's the support that apps need as opposed to the apps themselves (if I understood correctly).

I don't get this obsession with people wanting loads of apps on Tivo. given the 5 or so year replacement cycle. Get the right tool for the job, such as a Roku, which has a much more frequent update cycle.

We moan because we are paying for a service that does not work satisfactorily. Why should anyone buy additional equipment when they are already paying for a TV box that is supposed to allow you to stream advertised services carried by the Tivo?

If you bought a new car and found it overheated on long journeys, would you use that car only for local trips and buy another car to travel greater distances? Of course not, and we expect more from the Tivo. Let's hope that the new one works as fast as on other equipment and does not slow to a crawl after a few years.

.

Because, as I have said, several times, the development cycle of a replacement PVR is at least five years. It is going to get slower as it gets older for newer apps that are added.

Streamer boxes are updated far more frequently, and therefore are a better tool for apps. Also, they don't have the same demands on the processor as a PVR, which is doing several things at the same time.

Tivo still does apps, but anyone who expects it to be as quick with these apps as a streamer box, is failing to understand the difference between the two devices.

You can undo a nut with a pair of pliers, but it's nowhere near as good a way to do it as using the right size spanner.

As of today no new NBC Universal channels are testing on Virgin Media UK (E! HD, E! +1 and Universal Channel HD).

To be fair, QVC wouldn't pay for them to be on VM if they didn't think that some people wouldn't want them. People who appreciate such channels are unlikely to be on this forum but they will be happy.

The QVC channels are owned by Liberty Interactive Inc. No surprise to me that a company related to Liberty Global would want their channels on Liberty's networks.

As others have suggested, it doesn't work that way, the QVC Group makes its decisions based on what makes best commercial sense for itself. Its shareholders would be unhappy if it didn't operate this way.

The head of content acquisitions is currently making his way back to the UK. He's in Switzerland at the moment. :) http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2016/...d-pbs-america/

Meanwhile, Virgin Media has been busy licensing out its content. It has struck a deal to sell Red Rock from its TV3 channel in Ireland to the BBC. To be fair, this is a good channel for this type of programming. Consider the uproar if it had been sold to Sky Atlantic! http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/red-...claimed-drama/

Can also download the app or use the website.
Over 3,000 episodes of your favourite reality shows....

I'm at work and not in a position to do any of those things but seems it is live now?

NBCUniversal International (NBCUI) and Virgin Media today announce a ground-breaking partnership with the launch of hayu to Virgin Media customers.

hayu is the new subscription on-demand service from NBCUniversal for reality TV fans, launched in March in the UK for a monthly fee of £3.99. For the first time, from 7 April 2016 Virgin TV XL TiVo® customers’ subscriptions will include hayu at no extra cost and will be available on Virgin TiVo through an all-new app. Later in the year, hayu will also be available to purchase by other Virgin Media TV customers.

With 3,000 episodes available at launch, hayu is the only go-to multiscreen source for top on-demand reality content, with over 500 new episodes added every year. Shows include Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its spin-offs along with The Real Housewives, Million Dollar Listing and Top Chef franchises, I Am Cait, Vanderpump Rules, Flipping Out, Shahs of Sunset and The Millionaire Matchmaker – among many others. And better still, the majority of shows debut on the same day as their US launch.

Beyond the TiVo experience, Virgin Media XL customers will also have access to the hayu iOS and Android apps, as well as the hayu website, allowing for a fully immersive reality hit on the go.

hayu’s newly developed interface includes not only full episodes of fans’ favourite reality series but much more – shareable content and social media are at the heart of the service. Through the hayu mobile app, news feeds from multiple sources featuring the latest celebrity news and gossip are central to the user experience. Specially made short-form snippets featuring the shows are available to share directly via fans’ social media accounts and the social media accounts of hundreds of reality’s hottest stars sit alongside programmes to give viewers the opportunity to share their own comments and engage with fellow reality fans.

David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer, Virgin Media said: “Our partnership with hayu brings our customers the biggest and best in reality programming across every screen at no extra cost. With more than 3,000 episodes of the world’s most popular reality shows available on TiVo and through multiscreen apps, our customers can indulge their passion wherever they are with a new way of enjoying great TV – integrating social media and immersive TV shows into a single service making it the perfect fit for reality TV fans.”

Hendrik McDermott, SVP, Branded On-Demand, NBCUniversal said: “It is such an exciting milestone to team up with Virgin Media as our first ever TV platform partner, allowing hayu to reach an even wider audience of reality fans on the wide range of devices they use every day. As partners, we are delighted to unveil a bespoke hayu TiVo app to provide Virgin customers with tailored access to this unique and immersive SVOD service.”

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

And one suspects Virgin will justify their recent price rise by saying we have added this for you at no extra cost...
