Our football clubs spend copious amounts of money on foreign fancy players and managers and yet we seem technically and tactically inferior to most of the clubs on the continent and they cannot blame English players and managers at all because the top 4 hardly consist of any of them.

In a way I'm glad. He's slightly better than Moyes but LVG is not the man for United.

In his defence he's had to make do with an awful injury list but even when the team was fit, games were often won by luck. He's got good credentials and has been successful at the highest level but his philosophy doesn't match United, the players or the fans and neither does his brand of defensive football. We might be joint top 3 in the PL but haven't played like it.

I say at the end of the season take the hit on the final year of his contract then get SAF over to Germany and sweet-talk Guardiola.

You could say when he was manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich he was flattered as it was the quality of players there that generally got him out of trouble most of the time.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

He's created his own problems. Spent £250 million and not brought in a quality striker. Even though he has great potential you can't rely on Martial at such a young age. We should've been through before last night, not beating PSV home and away is shocking, it came back to bite us with all the injuries we had last night it was always going to be tough. Finishing the game with two midfielders and two youngsters that have never played for the club before in defence was worrying. Our attacking play was a lot better last night which was the only positive from the game.

Here we are then, it's set up for an absolutely disastrous week for English football in terms of European football. Arsenal being eliminated would bring about coefficient questions, Chelsea being eliminated with them would be absolutely disastrous.

Chelsea could effectively dump Porto out, so it's Porto in the more peculiar position than Chelsea. Porto have to win if Dynamo win as far as I'm aware otherwise they're out.

Arsenal need anything other than 1-0 or 2-1.

Going for Arsenal to win 4-0. Chelsea to win 3-0

---------- Post added at 20:01 ---------- Previous post was at 19:04 ----------

Chelsea lead at home to Porto. Dynamo lead, Porto out as it stands.

Olympiakos looking the more likely. I expected a battering here, I hope Arsenal start pulling it out soon. It's great stuff from Olympiakos at the minute though, it's akin to how Newcastle played at the weekend, they're charging down every single ball and constantly pressuring Arsenal into losing it.

Flamini hits the bar, Arsenal are awake.

He's looking forward to Wales being England's banana skin, given how well we've played lately :)

As for Giggs....I'm not so sure. Yes he's the ideal man to bring back Fergie United but would the world class players we need have enough confidence to want to play for him? United legends going in to management have rarely set the world on fire. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see Giggs as United manager but experience-wise I'd say only if Guardiola or possibly Ancelotti were not available.

Nothing wrong with that at all. It's just people looking for a reason to be offended. It's usually how people refer to teams drawn into the same group as them. 'Arsenal's group' or 'Manchester United's group'.

How is it a double standard? This is how teams usually refer to the groups they're in. You would surely have referred to your Champions League group as 'our' group or 'Manchester United's' group. This is ridiculous.

You'll find people saying stuff like that from every country in the tournament because its a normal way to refer to the group you're in. You would think the Welsh would be enjoying actually being involved in a draw/tournament but instead they are still trying to find ways of being offended by the English.

Still awaiting news on where Carlisle United will play their home tie against Hartlepool. It's thought St James' Park is on the table with the rest of Newcastles Support consisting of 'Anything needed to keep running the club'

Support has also been given by Blackpool and Preston North End.

I think an advertised match at a tenner a ticket is the way forward. Give the clubs their average gate share and donate the rest to the those affected by floods in Cumbria. That's just me though. Selling out a ground that close after Christmas is a big ask.

Although Pep has a good CV both Barca and Bayern were highly successful clubs at the top of the tree when he joined them, he didn't drag them into contention in the way that say Simeone has at Atheletico.

Yup. It would be silly to suggest Pep isn't a great manager but he has, so far, taken on some of the best teams with the best funding in the World. Munich had won the treble when he arrived there, Barcelona had one of the best academies sport has ever seen and both teams could pretty much buy whoever they wanted.

Simone we will have to see but I think what he has done at Athletico exceeds what Pep did at Barcelona.

I am not sure he would want to join Chelsea (Pep that is) anyway. The management and expectations seems counter to the jobs he has chosen so far and the way he likes to work. City is more suited to him.

Oh what a sea of mediocrity from both sides currently and l can see both sides undergoing significant remedial surgery come the summer to root out the rift raft and the cowardless.

I think he will end up at City. It will be interesting to see what happens if City win the league this season though, i think i'm right in saying Pellegrini has another year left on his contract. Will he walk or be pushed to make way for Pep

Jupp henkyles (sp) won the treble and was still pushed aside to make way for him. Pep has six months to try and be as successful as his predecessor

Quite a weekend for the small clubs beating bigger opposition with Norwich, Watford and spurs winning. :)

Something stinks at Chelski.

They play carp, sack Jose then they suddenly find form.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I think the fans made it pretty clear and have singled out quite a few players for the blame rather than Jose. Costa and Fabregas were jeered by their own supporters. A win against Sunderland doesn't amount to form though.

Chelsea stink.

I'll always remember how Jose was sacked again... then I'll always blame Costa for it.

Chelsea's loss is United gain in my opinion. You'd have to consider Mourinho in for finally getting the United job. I can't see LVG making another season. With Carlo off to Bayern, Pep a certainty for City, Mourinho is now the favourite to take over United.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

The thing is if the players do play well then it does reflect badly on Mourinho. It's not as if this happens in isolation is it? He fell out with a lot of players at Madrid too. It does just lend more weight to the theory that Mourinho's style only works for so long before the players lose motivation and burn out. His combative, high-pressure, nature only works for the short term.

But you said both sides, I thought Watford played well, and there is no such word as cowardless.

Since last season I've said LVG was not the man for United. He's better than Moyes but seems completely incapable of seeing when he's wrong. I'm still hoping we get Pep due to his friendship with SAF but the papers seem to have decided he's going to City. If that does happen then Mourinho is just about the only manager I'd feel comfortable with at United.

Pavel Srnicek in critical condition after cardiac arrest. 47 years old. Promoted with Newcastle under Keegan and was part of the Newcastle squad that nearly won the premier league in the 95 season. Former Czech and Newcastle United Goalkeeper.

Reports say he's in an induced coma but remains in a could go either way condition due to him having stopped breathing for 20 minutes.

If Arsenal are ever planning to win the league again then this is the year. Keep calm and don't Liverpool.

Arsenal drew Barca too, without sounding too negative, getting knocked out now has it's benefits.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Well not being rotten. Arsenal will burn themselves out again. They are always getting close, then bang they let it go.

Its like Leicester, l can see them burning themselves out. A good Team and they deserve to be at No 1 spot.
Big question is who will have the bottle to keep the race going. Xmas time is the biggest test for all clubs.

If you are in the bottom Five, its hard to get out of the relegation zone. Like Chelsea, l can see them fighting to get out.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Oh Arthur obviously your opinions are based on Arsenal being Spurs rivals it seems and me being a independent chappie Arsenal will definitely finish above Spurs in my book.
