From previous experience, don't new channels tend to launch on a Thursday rather than a Friday? Could it be possible that BT Sports is on the Virgin EPG by this time tomorrow?

I think I saw one channel being added on Virgin Media on an Friday - Sky Sports F1.

Yesterday +1, Eden +1, Good Food HD, Good Food +1 and Dave HD did launch on an Friday but their was added to the EPG on the Tuesday before hand.

Surely Virgin would launch BT Sports on the first day they're able to, no matter what the normal launch day for new channels is.

Actually BT will know that once the season has started the clamour to get the channel will subside, and at that point advertising revenue becomes key. Virgin probably knew that they had to play the long game - the trade off was whether they could do this and not lose too many customers along the way. I will actually be surprised if this is not in xl now. If it's a premium add on then that's a deal that could have been done ages ago.

I agree. I would assume that BT would get more money from Virgin this way anyway rather than selling a stand alone product to whatever percentage of customers would bother taking it. They'll also boost advertising revenue.

I kind of think this was BT's strategy all along - wait until the last minute so as to get as many BB subscribers as possible and then agree a deal for XL.

As for Virgin, they might have actually been better off agreeing a standalone £12/£15 deal early on rather than losing a heap of customers. Perhaps BT didn't want to sell them that way (as they couldn't get personal details as they do for Sky customers).

I am no longer going to rant over this. VM are just playing with our minds, they should be doing what Smallworld Cable had the courtesy of doing.

It annoys me when a major company treats its customers with such poor mentality, l think it's appalling. I ain't saying anymore. I cannot see it being on the system by the time the PL starts - i will only believe things when l see a pink elephant land it my garden.

I emailed Uktv at the end if July to be told that Virgin Media would not be carrying the new Drama channel anytime soon.

This could be a serious coup for Virgin if we get the channels on XL. No additional subs & we get multiroom access to BT's channels.

I can see Virgin getting BT Sport but can't see it being part of XL. It would make no sense unless Virgin increase the price of XL. Time will tell.

I like the sound of that, Muppetman! It will be interesting to see if we are offered a Horizon box further down the line.

I was quite impressed that it had some of the features of the TIVO, but what really got to me was the five channels to record at the same time and the 400TB - that's really nice!

It's 400GB ---- less than the smallest Tivo. And no whishlists. Hope it doesn't come to VM with those specs.

Actually I think the biggest coup is that it'll apparently be on TV Anywhere as well. It's not on Sky Go, BT are launching their own streaming app which presumably would give them an "in" to potential customers, and yet it appears that whatever the pricing structure of the channels themselves, Virgin have got themselves a deal to include it in their own streaming app. I can't think of any reason why BT would have to allow that so if it happens then it's a really good effort from Virgin.

I agree if its added to XL it will be an excellent deal in fact it would bring VM back into reckoning for me , I am however finding it hard to believe it will be added under these circumstances I'd be delighted to be wrong though.

It is sounding like the most likely option that it will be in XL, although there are other possibilities around this. For example, ESPN might be part of XL and you pay a few quid more for BT Sports 1 & 2.

I'm hoping for all the football fans out there that VM are offering the whole package on XL (or even VIP). It would be a very good deal and one I have been hoping for since negotiations began.

I am just glad that people are finally starting to accept that we will get the channels on Saturday.

Nah, it will launch tomorrow or Friday :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

The other point to make about this is that if people really really wanted the channel they probably would have moved for it by now, or made other arrangements. If it's offered as a premium add on by Virgin there will likely be very low take up. If BT are offering it to Virgin they'll want a return on the deal, and I just can't see how subscriptions to premium channel will provide that.

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
We are getting BT Sports
And l am happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin',
Singin' in the rain

Dancin' in the rain
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
I'm happy again!
We are getting BT Sorts
And l am happy again
I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain!

I'm dancin' and singin' in the rain...
[ADDITIONAL VERSE]
Why am I smiling
And why do I sing?
Why does August
Seem sunny as spring?
Why do I get up
Each morning and start?
Happy and head up
With joy in my heart
Why is each new task
A trifle to do?
Because I am living
A life full of you.

We must all accept by now people on the phone and retentions know nothing about BT sport. The only people who know are the people who've done the deal or people working on the channel launch.

Other than that it's constant lies, confusions and generic fobbing off

What is the above..of course its a rant !!

You really really really cannot get it into your head that negotiations are negotiations and commercial confidentiality dictates that neither side can't just go spouting their mouths of as to what is going on.

Im surprised that the CEO's secretary's sisters aunt's best friend hasnt phoned/emailed you to tell you that.

I'm still confident BT Sport will be in the VM line up by the weekend, if not, it soon will be, but Im not going loose any sleep over it or leave VM if it isnt. I will watch the games via other means.

If the rumour BT Sports deal has been signed why wait until Friday to launch it.

BT Sports are rumours as Testing on Virgin Media right now - been testing over an week.

Channel 5 HD deal was signed the day before it was added on it launch day.

My own view is the BT Sports deal being signed is one big lie.

There are rumours that MB has crystal balls, and that is how he knows all.

I will take that all in good faith (as I'm not going to check if they are crystal :D)

Media Boy brand is 7 - not it owner.

I also don't think its been signed BUT playing devils advocate what if an agreement was unofficially put in place where BT sports would launch on virgin media on Friday giving BT maximum amount of time to try and get new subscribers over.

virgin agreed to it as they got a good deal for the channel at a good price. BT agreed and started an aggressive advertisement campaign stating it wasn't coming to virgin media to get subscribers to its new service.

they haven't announced it to the stock markets as it hasn't officially been signed its all wink wink hush hush lol lol sort of thing.

I don't think this will happen but it would match up with some of the random rumours which have been started and I refer to the legendary BomberAF (RIP) when I say this.

If I was BT sport and had made this secret deal i'd leave it to the last possible day before the premier league started to get the panicking football nuts to leave VM for BT

Just a theory. And i'm still very pessimistic about it launching.

Jammie is right, although Rooney was onside but Scotland the better side for much of that half. Now level I expect England to go on and win from here. So perhaps BT Sport isn't coming after all!!!

Back on topic I have always been impressed with how easily MB can recall channel launch dates and the circumstances surrounding them. I would suggest that nobody has more experience to draw on than he when it comes to this sort of thing, and so sure does he seem that he doesn't think this is happening, that I am myself starting to have doubts.

My own view is the BT Sports deal being signed is one big lie.

I posted in this thread the comments that Liberty Global boss Mike Fries made about BT sports when Liberty/VM had their Q2 results webcast last week. I don't think anyone saw the post/was paying attention to it.

Basically, when Fries and the Liberty board was in London a few weeks ago, he said his whole time was pretty much spent dealing with the BT sports issue. He invited the BT and Sky bosses to meet the new VM and Liberty managment team. They had a chat, but they came to no agreement over sports rights.

Fries thinks eventually BT will need to wholesale its channels to VM to recoup some of its costs, but in the short term BT have made it clear that this is not going to happen at the price VM want to pay.

That's from the horses mouth. The webcast is on Liberty's site and anyone can listen to it. Perhaps the situation has changed since then, but I doubt it.

Well, being pendantic, Childs isnt a commentator :) But then, ITV labelling the awful Clive Tyldesley as a commentator surely breaks the trades description act....but then again, i think that of most commentators, apart from Martin Tyler and the very excellent Steve Bower, freelancing I believe, but used by BBC but not enough. Sky should offer him a contract as back up to Martin.

A year to 18 months.

Bt has spent a lot of money on sport. It wants to attract people to its platform not someone else's. But I agree with Fries, eventually BT will need to recoup that money and wholesale, but not yet.

Sorry Horizon but deals can be sealed very quickly nowadays and one suspects there have been top level talks on a day to day basis since those meetings and the result of that is a deal has now been agreed in my humble opinion.

Bt have the rights for 3 years. 18 months is mid term, not short term, surely?

If it isn't on VM by the PL kick off then the value of the product on offer goes down IMO.

Anyone know how many people have the XL pack? If VM pay BT £3 per XL subscriber i'd bet that will bring in more than BT would get in subs from a standalone via VM (even tho i don't know the figure).

Well, obviously, by 12.45 on Saturday which is the first game that BT will show, we'll all know either way.

All I would add is that I would question what has changed between when the Liberty people met BT three weeks ago and now. Nothing, would be my answer. VM/LIberty know what price BT want for their stuff and I don't see that changing in the short term.

Meaning no disrespect to the greatest cup competition in the World, or the exciting new restructure of the Scottish league, but you and I both know that it's the Premier League rights that will sell subscriptions and that, rightly or wrongly, it is those rights which will determine the value of the channel.

Another poster on here already said that Vm's managment ordered the network people to prepare for BT sports launching, in the event that a deal was done.

They can prepare all they want and have webpages ready, doesn't mean its actually going to happen.

Why don't we all just wait until 12.45 Saturday? If BT Sports appears, then that is great for those people that like football.

Cheers Dave42.

All I will say is web page mock ups are done all the time by web design teams in every industry (i work in IT, heavily involved in development), to ensure that the CSS is right and doesnt screw the layout...and from time time, these mock ups are unfortunately released erroneously to a live environment.

But it does lead to a shaft of light I suppose. :)

I think if bt launch on virgin media

it will be

bt sports 1 536
bt sports 1 hd 537
bt sports 2 538
bt sports 2 hd 539
espn 540
espn hd 541

and virgin can launch a tv channels at any time they launched sky sports extra in 2004 at 3pm in the afternoon.... also with the screen shot on tv anywhere could the deal include free web stream
