I had the misfortune of going to the land that time forgot today to watch that utter dross. Our performance was poor, not at all the spirited showing Kenny Dalglish tried to sell to the press. The stats just reflected how truly awful Stoke were but they got away with it thanks to the usual Clattenberg assist. We weren't much better.

But we deserved to get something out of the match but the referee was a absolute homer in every decision he made.

I honestly think that some of the decisions by the referees need looking at, but there again, they will get away with it.

When is a penalty, not a penalty ?

Re: Football Season 2011/12

I like the idea of a review after the game, as mentioned on sky sports (credit to them, no copyright worries :D)

4 professionals, deciding if someone has dived, if they have, 4 game ban. That would stop diving, and give referees the confidence to give penalities. i think half the time they are struggling to guess if the player has dived or was fouled

Arthurgray50@blu 11-09-2011 13:27

Re: Football Season 2011/12

I believe, if a player dives - straight red.

I done a Sunday game a few years ago, and the player dived in the box and he was at least a foot away from the player, and l sent him off.

Diving is cheating, some players will look up and smile if they get the pen, The big problem is l have seen it loads of times over the last couple of season's, the worst offenders are Terry, Rooney and Nani, and the worst is if it happens at Old Trafford or Chelsea, nine times out of tens, if the players goes down in the box and its a dive. RED CARD.

colin25 11-09-2011 13:31

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Absolutely agree with you. I actually think it is getting worse, and the diving is starting to get marks out of 10 for form..how best to throw yourself up in the air...sniper's bullet style. All that is missing is the judges holding the cards showing the marks :D

I think we should have Clive Thomas back as the head of referee's, he never put up any old crap from players.

Trouble is we have a head of referee's now that l think allows a lot to go, but will support his colleagues.

In the time l did it, l complaied bitterly to County FA and the FA in general, and l never got one reply, this respect lark is a load of crap, thats why l gave up the whistle.

I agree with this and posted a few weeks ago about how fed up I am with all the diving and cheating going on.

Saw one today where a player slide in for the ball that was out in the open, won it, then a player fell over his legs and the ref gae a free kick. What's the player meant to do after he won the ball, make his legs disappear ?

This needs to be done at FIFA \ UEFA level though. There's no point the FA being clean if we can go back to cheating when we play in Europe

He certainly didn't - but I think there was more respect to officials back then - oh and he's 76 now - surely deserves a retirement :)

Re: Football Season 2011/12

He was a great ref, l used to work for a company that he a director of, respect of officials today is poor, we had an incident over the weekend where a player from Liverpool, l think had a right old go at the lino.

And then we had the game yesterday with Webb, disallowed two blatant penalties and the one with the elbow in the face, definate pen, that the offical should have picked up - respect of officials, whats that,

What players don't realise is that WITHOUT officials there would not be a game.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

but they will argue a foul anywhere on the pitch should be penalized because of the margins of error their working with and you have to agree with them. the premier league is becoming incredibly strong, even the slightest foul not being called up can be disastrous to ones season.

one game last season that sticks out for me and I'm not at all being bias, AC Milan v Spurs. Spurs clearly fouled AC, ref failed to call them up, the game just ran on which led to frustration. I don't agree with Gattusos reactions but the fouls were clear and you've got to understand why they were annoyed.

heads of refs go about their thing and not being as stern as they could because they could end up killing the game which is debatable. playing fifa or pro is completely different to the actually game. having said that Van Persie got sent off at the Nou Camp for a pathetic reason and then that very ref is installed as head of UEFA refs if I recall correctly.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Arsenals majority shareholder has said,

Quote:

The British press hounded Wenger — and by extension Kroenke — to spend more money to settle the roster crisis. Wenger finally made some moves, bringing in five new players near the conclusion of the transfer period. But Wenger did so on his terms, and that was fine with Kroenke, who fully supports the embattled manager. "There's a risk of going backwards if you overreact and start throwing money around in an attempt to solve your problems," Kroenke said. "Unfortunately we saw that with the Rams several years ago. Signing a bunch of free agents wasn't the answer. It set things back, and it took us a while to dig out of it. Our track record is out there for people to see. If we think there's good value, we'll spend."

It's too soon to know how the new collective bargaining agreement between the NFL owners and players will impact the Rams, who are in the bottom half of the league in revenue. An analysis by Forbes magazine concluded that smaller-market teams would eventually lose ground during the 10-year deal, but Kroenke isn't sure. "It's all about the ability to compete," Kroenke said. "I don't think the small-market teams went backward in this deal. Did they gain a lot? I wouldn't say that's true. It's easier for a big-market team than a small-market team. But at the same time, you see examples of small-market teams thriving. Look at Green Bay. But the small-market teams have to be smart."

Weirdly, in the context of their respective groups, Man United's result was the better one despite Napoli being a more difficult game. City are in a awful group and they really need to pick up points at home, whereas United have a extraordinarily kind group so a draw away to the most difficult team in their group is acceptable.

Arsenes a genius hands down for what hes been able to achieve but notice one thing... a disaster has to happen before he reacts so where does it leave the club? as a gooner i fear the club will have to be run into the ground before Wenger does something in regards to change. Coaching, coaches, tactics, personnel.

I understand Arsenal has players injuried but to rely on them throughout the reason is stupidity. I guess as an Arsenal fan I'll have to ride it out but it'll be interesting to see what happens to Wenger. Stan has already hinted at his expectation of quality being brought in rather than covering up the cracks. Wenger runs the show from top to bottom at Arsenal, I reckon its time that changed. When Dein was about Wenger use to listen to him. Ivan on the other hand.. I just don't see him having the same influence as Dein did. Nonetheless its going to be interesting to see what happens.

Great start to the season for us and a much better looking Newcastle United which makes a change for team that at one point had the worst defence in the league.

The Midfield is simply superb with Obertan showing a lot more of what he has to offer today and Cabaye is just pure class. Still waiting to see Jonas dropped in favour of the faster and better Marveaux or Ben Arfa. Get some real striking ability and there are good times ahead for a change.

To be honest.. I feel Pardew can get the sack at anytime but it will have nothing to do with his Managerial skills but more to do with him being outspoken about the Finances being re-invested into the club and the way the board handled the dealings with possible incoming strikers.

He has already spoken out once with regards to last minute striker deals and himself being completely left in the dark with regards to the targets. He had his own striker targets but wasn't allowed to bid on any of them which was a bit annoying for both him and fans as he has said over the past few weeks. It's nice to see he isn't just a Yes man as once assumed.

Actually if you watch the replay carefully you will see that Nani's foot was tapped just as he was about to shoot so it was a penalty.:p:

Shocking tackle from Cashley Cole, if it was a booking offence why wasn't it a penalty, the ball was still in play at the moment Cole commited GBH?

Mind you the miss from Torres was priceless.:D

Berbatov in as a central defender after we went down to 10 men (through injury and no subs), rubbed the salt in a bit ;)

Let's face it, most of the time he plays like he's in central defence.

He'd didn't do too bad there either - a new position for him? ;)

Diouf, Fryers and Pogba impressed as well.

United (Man) strolled past United (Leeds) with their 2nd/3rd team on display.

I thought it was starting to look like rubbing it in a bit when Cole came on, surely he must still be at junior school.:D

Arsene Wenger wants 'another 14 years' at Arsenal and after his long term record at Arsenal he deserves to be there as long as he wants to.
