Hoping to order a TIVO today. Can someone tell me what the monthly cost would be for VIP50 with a TIVO and an additional V+HD which I already have?

Just ordered mine, she kept going off the phone to confirm thins which I don't have a problem with, she even said a bit new to the Tivo purchase so checking. She got everything correct and install date is the 21st April, would have been 19th but I can't make that day. She did ask for the code on the Email.

Just off the phone with CS
I have the same set up as you, and waiting for TIVO on Wednesday next week.

She confirmed my current package at £110.55, which will reduce to £ 103.55
when Tivo is swapped for 1 of my V+ boxes.

All at April prices.
Hope that helps

Footnote for Ben
If Virgin are scrapping the £10 for the additional box shouldn't that go back to £100.55,
or is she not taking into account the £3 waiver for Tivo?

Is everyones Tivo code the same?

Is the code tied to the each account? As I have an email with the code to order Tivo but won't be using it so if anyone wants it??

My code starts V and ends 1, it appears to simply be a date code for April 11.

I hope your right, I registered on December, got a 001 ticket and entered, then received a "sorry you have'nt won" and nothing since. No Dean email or any other. I emailed complaints, they had no record of me but promised me an email or call on the 11th as I still have the original emails sent to me.
But still got nothing:confused:

If I wait any longer, new customers will be in the que at this rate.

ok, well I'm impressed. Took a chance and called this morning. Got the email just as I was dialing!

Spoke to a lady who was efficient, courtious a very pleasant to deal with. Sorted my TIVO install for the 19th. My day off.

Did ask for a code but it seemed like a formality. She also confirmed that the install would not affect my existing loyalty/complaint related discounts so I'm a happy bunny.

Looking forward to the 19th!

Tried to persevere with the ordering website for about ten minutes and gave up and dialled the number on the first page that the link in the email takes you to, took 15 minutes in the end and install booked for later this week. She did ask for the code as well and was quite insistent. Oh well at least it's sorted at last.

Oh the ordering website did stop giving "Service Temporarily Unavailable" messages about 10 minutes through the telephone call.

I have the same request, I want to keep my V+ box and have it moved to the TV room where I have a standard box so that I can have decent TV in both rooms.

Apart from the "specially designed for VM" BBC iPlayer (referring to the App, not the VOD menus). I thought the App was just the web iPlayer BigScreen edition?

Hi,
Got my email this morning, but wanted to speak to someone as I want to get rid of my standard box upstairs, move V+ up there and have Tivo downstairs. Rang the sales line, but they wouldn't let me order it as the account is in my husband's name. I am authorised on the account - with a password - but she still wouldn't let me order.
As I didn't want to wait until late this afternoon, and miss out on an install date, I went ahead and ordered a straight upgrade to Tivo online. I have an order number.
DF (or other staff members) -
  • Can I just ask the Engineer to swap them over?
  • Can I swap them over beforehand myself?
  • Should I speak to someone - and if so, which department/number?
Hoping for installation on the 23rd April - but as you can't book online and only request, we'll have to wait and see.
Cheers,

They do say that the iPlayer App has three times the content of the V+ one, I know it has more but that much?

Phew that was a bit of a pain and pleasure experience. Ordered a Tivo for a week today. :)

Could not get the woman on the phone to understand I wanted to transfer my V+ to upstairs to replace my standard box and have Tivo downstairs. Was on hold three times and after placing the order she rang me back to confirm the installation time we had agreed in the previous phone call. Bless, she must be under pressure.

Wow! That was difficult. Just called up to order Tivo and upgrade to VIP50.

Even though the email clearly states VIP50 and Tivo for £100.55 with no monthly fee, the nice lady on the end of the phone told me that it would cost me around £112 per month. "No," says I and repeat what the email says. "I'll check..." After a few silent moments, she comes back and says "No, that's definitely right, an extra £13.50 per month... becuase of the new VAT rate".

"No," says I. The new VAT rate wouldn't make that much difference and the email says "£100.55".

"Ok, I'll check again she says". Silence... "Ok, sorry about that, that will be £102.55 per month, I've applied some special discounts"

"Ok," says I. "I'll call back later when I've found out what's going on".

"Would you like me to check the email that we sent to you?"

"Oh, yes please"

Silence...

"Ok, I'm really sorry about that, £100.55 per month and one off £149.95 added to your bill".

Woopee! Install set for 1pm-6pm on Monday 18th!

Hooray!

You can render HTML from within Flash but it's dreadful. Also embedded flash and the flash plugins are very different in deployment so my guess is that there is no HTML interpreter/render on TiVo.

Good point, got a bit blinkered looking at my computer there. Forgot TiVo had embedded flash and not containered.

Point still stands on custom iPlayer implementations though - they shouldn't be happening. By all accounts that is what has killed the iOS app development stone dead - the version currently out in the wild has been ready for months if not years - since before a freeze was put on spending money/effort on custom code.

If it transpires the beeb have spent money/effort on VM (after already doing so with the Catch-Up implementation), and won't apply the same to iOS (or any other "custom" platform), we should be asking why.

Will VIP50 customers be getting emails today and tomorrow? I thought I would have been contacted by now. I will not phone VM as I think its fairer to wait for them to contact me.

Good things come to those who wait patiently and don't queue jump.

I'm an XL TV and phone customer, L BB and I got the email this morning.

I think that rule only applies to the BBC financing custom implementations themselves. If you front up the money there isn't a problem, I guess that's what VM did.

It's only the BBC iPlayer App that is delivered in this format on TiVO. :)

spooky though with your prediction :)

And my post was entirely about iplayer on Tivo ;)
I wouldn't say it was spooky, just common sense really, it's such a better way of doing it, you can see that by how much more content there is on tivo, and I bet it gets on there quicker as well.

Speaking of which, was told yesterday I'd get called back for my install date, no call yet... might have to give them a call to remind them!

Yay, finally got it sorted, moved back onto a VIP package, VIP 50 no less. But with an added bonus.

£95.55 for the first six months, then £100.55 for the last six months. - Bonus. which covers the £30 50Meg activation fee. Nice.

Tivo here I come.

I'm a XL customer pre reg in December still no e-mail,

I bet I won't get any contact from Virgin today having second faults if
all this hassle with Tivo is worth the wait for the box,

I will wait one more day if no contact then Virgin will lose a very
long standing customer I don't see why I should chase then up over
this.

Really poor Virgin when will you learn.

"cock-up" is too strong a word to use but VM did make mistakes with regard to this pre-general release ordering.

Many people were genuinely concerned about what was going on and could see install dates slipping away if they waited for the email.

Now, I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't use the direct order line posted on various forums (which I could have). I rang 150 to express my concerns as to what was going on and my worry about install dates slipping further away.

If VM had said something like, "We know it's been going on, but we've stopped it", that would have been fine by me and I would have accepted that. Instead they gave me the sales telephone number and the person who answered said he had been authorised to take orders from people without emails.

My response to your post was really about you accusing people of 'blagging'; personally, I don't see how the scenario I've outlined above can be described as 'blagging'. You could have ignored the sort of things going on yesterday, or as I did, ring CS and ask about it.

Opinions on the forum are divided about this, which I understand.

Leaving our differences of opinion on the above issue aside though, one thing I've said before and would like to say again, is how much I appreciate how you've you gone out of your way to keep us as up to date as possible on the Tivo release; the information you've posted has been invaluable and I really thank you for that. One difference of opinion on one aspect doesn't alter that.

BTW, my email arrived this morning.

Just got my email, and ordered it - being delivered/installed Saturday morning 23rd of April (and having my existing V+ box moved into the spare room where my V box currently is).

(and checked, and been reassured (and noted the date/time of call and the TiVo team member's name) that any current discounts will not be affected).

Still have the orignal email from 12th dec 2010, but never got the dean email or anything since.

If i dont get the email today or wed, will i be able to call and quote that email as it seems to be order on-line now only?

I was in the same predicament.

I just called them up anyway told them I'd had the email, they asked me for the reference number but I gave them the old "oh the computers all the way in the other room so I don't have the email to hand" line and they still put my order through.

The 18th is Tivo day!

As it is very doubtful that we will be getting the TiVo I have not been keeping up with this thread and therefore am not sure if this link about a second TiVo has been posted before.

My apologies if this is old news.

Not complaining , well maybe just a little bit.
I am on a VIP package XXL 50 MB, XL TV, XL PHONE, have been with Virgin Media in one form or another since around 1995, and I never revcieved any emails to give me the chance to pre register. I checked this yesterday with CS and they told me they do not send emails to everyone. Go figure. Will just have to be patient I suppose.
