Yes, but 'not coming soon' means never in VM speak! Oh dear - isn't that what they said about Sky Atlantic??!

No, they didn't, as Sky always promoted it as a Sky exclusive....;)

Bit harsh,As i posted last week after recieving a call from the ceo`s office we will recieve some new channels this year and maybe sky atlantic could be one of them. They have been concentrating on the broadband upgrade and tivo now content is top of agenda,They share ours views on additional content and it will happen.

Sky Atlantic will become available on Virgin Media... Just before they Launch Sky Universe HD exclusivley to Sky Customers, it will contain the best new and exciting HD dramas and series from around the solar system including the combined total output of FoxTv, ABC and HBO all on one easy convenient channel, with commentary and stat facts available in sky programmed language on the red button... all for no apparent extra charge.

BBC 2 HD will not be happening any time soon as they have BBC HD that shows the remaining HD content from the rest of the bbc channels, are there barely enough to fill that channel!

A simple relaunch from BBC HD to BBC 2 HD is feasible , over time the majority of the Beebs content wil be in HD.

I thought because of the terms of the BBC Licensce BBC 3 & 4 Can't launch on HD because there isn't enough slots for them to launch on Freeview, and the BBC have to make all channels available on all platforms.

You may well be right unless room can be found on Freeview.

A spot is open in 2012 on Freeview and no doubt Channel 5 with their new shoestring budget won't be able to afford it so its certainly possible that the BBC will get it.

Hi all and Happy Royal Wedding Holiday.

Due to being away a lot and having a number of family and household issues to attend to, I haven't been keeping up with the various threads of late (for a couple of months) so I think I'll have to skip over the history and Quantum Leap directly to the present day. So, apologies if I mention anything that has already been covered recently.

Here's a subject that I haven't heard of for quite a while though. When, if at all, are we expecting a Channel 5 +1 (Five +1)?

Also, I have noticed a lot of changes (up and down) to the number of Total Channels on my V Box (currently 356) in the past few weeks and read some speculation as to what they might be for but is there a definite answer now? Have we had any new SD channels added recently or is it just Sky Arts 1 & 2 HD and Sky Sports 1 & 2 Red Button?

Hi we do not have Channel 5+1 and also in regards to your second question about the channels. We have only had Sky Arts 1+2 HD and the rest of the channels are for the interactive streams for the red button.

Hope this helps?

If I am wrong someone will correct me.

Well, there you go, that may be the answer to my query before I had even posted it!

  • Channel 5 are fiscally challenged at the moment
  • There is no slot currently available on Freeview for 5 +1
  • Channel 5 would have to launch simultaneously on terrestrial, satellite (FreeSat & Sky) and cable platforms

I'm not sure if the latter applies to Channel 5 in the same way that it might to BBC. Can anyone confirm?

You two are the Abbot & Costello of CF - one feeds the whinge, the other then bitches about it.....;)

Do people actually expect a new channel/initiative every day/week/month - if so, in line with every other major content delivery companies' customers, you may need to join the real world.

(btw, I don't know if you read in another thread, that VM TV have actually delivered nearly twice as much new stuff in the last six months than Sky TV has - but let's not let reality spoil a prejudice, shall we? :D).

I had a courtesy call from Sky last night , asking me how I was finding the service , he stated Sky were looking to launch at least another 20 HD channels by the end of the year , he mentioned something about more Sky sports channels , but as usual PINCH OF SALT , I wouldn't have thought there were potentially that many launching this year.

Dear Sir Hugh we are getting very steamed up here over nothing maybe its because you were not invited to the royal wedding and you need to take it out on me again, you must have a doll in your office and in your outburst you stick a pin in it and pretend its Denphone.
As for Abbot and costello well l was thinking of that legendary duel Laurel and Hardy.

Not wishing to add to the Denphone bashing but your 'Services' and 'Location' profile entries in the left-hand panel are a bit loud and difficult to read being in all upper-case.

Another 20 HD channels this seems to be going it a bit unless ocean finance channel is going HD;) But i would be unsurprised if sky in the future launched another sports channel if only a part time one, gets around having to put content on Red Button but the snag is would they offer it to vm who knows but to me that would eem reasonably likely.

Just a question of wait and see really mate.

From my post 996 I would say the following will launch

CBS Action HD
CBS Drama HD
NKS World HD launching in May.
Food Network HD

But what others is anyone's guess , the CBS HD channels would be a good addition for VM.

erm, I am not the one (or two or three) with regular outbursts and whinging - I leave that honour to you....

I have nothing against you personally (and you don't even begin to figure on my horizon of annoyances), I just find that your constant negative output and whinging a trifle wearing - btw, I notice you didn't actually respond to my comment re realistic expectations....;)

Dear hugh l find your overbearing bias very wearing but l suppose thats you, as for whinging well thats a bit silly for you to go down to that level and aim that at me but l can cope with that as we are all grown men.
look you have your biased opinions and l have a unbiased opinion about things and you and others seem not to like that but l will continue to have a opinion on things and if that ends up with me not being liked then so be it.

Do you have to quote all the screens on the MB update just to say thanks, my poor old mouse is wearing out, going through them twice.

A simple thanks for the update MB would be good.

Apparently Premier Sports are meeting again with Virgin this week. They contacted me personally on their Facebook.

I also rang them as well last week in which one of their CS told me they hope to be on Virgin by the time the 2011/12 season comes round as they hope to show 80 BSP games from next season as well as including more boxing.

Sky Sports Red Button update.

Virgin Media has launch Sky Sports Red Button last Thursday but that was only ''Phase 1''.

''Phase 2'' will launch before August.

I was thinking that ''Phase 2'' was the date for launching on TiVo.

But I have found out that this will not happen - TiVo users will get Sky Sports by mid 2012.

I was not given an launch date for TiVo.

But according to Virgin Media High Definition & TiVo Services blog, The red button on Tivo looks like it will be sometime in October and not before.

Why a year as you seem to have XL TV in your services under you avatar? Or have you not upgraded to TIVO?

Nothing disappears from the internet;)

Q. Parental control options on You Tube?
A. Looking at this option but could be next year. Last resort we have the ability to take off You Tube from an individual box.

Q. Will we have the ability to create files within files.
A. The team have been looking at the ability to create file for Mum, Dad, Jane etc. The idea to set play lists of shows you have recorded is also in the pipe line. The team love the idea but may be very difficult to build on the network. I will feedback more info as I get it.

Q. How do I get hold of a silver remote?
A. You cant, this was a limited edition remote which was given to selected customers.

Q. Will we have to option to set reminders.
A. The main idea of TiVo is the ability to record multiple shows with the massive hard drive the use of a reminder function seem unnecessary. Due to massive feedback about this function the TiVo team admit this was unexpected feedback and are now looking to give TiVo users the ability to set reminders. I will keep you posted when this is available.

Q. Will the info button work on the mini guide?
A. Yes, The phase 2 update (Q3) will see this function activated.

Q.When will we be able to transfer content to a computer?
A. This will not happen to contracts and copy right laws we have with our content providers.

Q. Will the ipad / iphone be able to be used as a remote control for TiVo.
A. Yes. This looks very cool, I was shown a video with someone using their iPad as a remote control, skipping through the guide and info pages while the TV was still showing full screen programme.

When using the Mini guide the ability to press 'info' to obtain show information - End of Q2 2011
Text style typing to search for content - End of Q2 2011
When going back in time on the channel guide the channel names will display on the right of the screen - End of Q2 2011

Due to a change in contract with Sky, previously blacked out Sky channels while viewing the guide will now be shown - 2011
Price of VOD movies will show as soon as the movie is highlighted rather than having to go through 5 screens before this info is shown - 2011
When viewing Sky movies TiVo customers will only be asked for PIN when needed and not on every movie. - 2011

Multi room streaming will give customer the ability to watch recorded programmes from one box TiVo box to another. - 2011/2012
VHD boxes will be turned into TiVo style boxes with no hard drives. Anyone who has the VHD box will have the TiVo display and functions. Cost may be involved. 2011/2012

Red button functions will be more app orientated. By the time the 2012 Olympics start we hope to gave users an option of 24 different events VIA the 'BBCi app' - 2012
Multi files for Mum, Dad, Gran etc so only shows enjoyed by a certain family member will appear in these personal files.
Sky sports red button will not be available on TiVo until late 2011 early 2012 however will be available next month on V+ and V boxes.

Finally just a little info on the 'Baby TiVo' box that we are launching next month.

The box should be available to buy as early as the end of May.

The box will have half the recording time but apart from that the box looks and works the same as its big brother.

The price will be £49.95 for activation and £40 for install. £3 extra per month for the service.

The main difference is the ability to have this box on M+ and LTV as well as XLTV. The TiVo cost will be £8 per month on M+ and LTV packages.

Feel free to talk about this box as well as the 1 terabyte box available now.

Regards

John.

I guess what the OP and subsequent Ps are saying is that maybe we'd have been better off getting some other channel if the content on Sky Arts SD & HD is going to be so poor. However, a bit of patience might be in order as something worth watching is bound to turn up eventually, isn't it? :(

It's not as though the conspiracy theorists can say that Sky have put all the good arts programming on a channel that VM customers don't have access to (like the Sky Sports 1/2, 3/4 debate), is it?

I must say though, between Sky 1, 2, Pick TV and the Living suite, there's not a great selection of new (non-repeat) programming on the VM supplied Sky channels. We like Bones, we watch Hawaii Five-0, although it's awful, but most of the other programmes that we used to watch on Sky/Living (e.g. CSI) are very old repeats of repeats of repeats.

VM is simply a platform, it has no authority over the programming on Sky channels. If it was picture/sound quality or technical issue then it would be VM. Speaking to Sky direct would be best if you are unhappy with their programming. :)

My point to Masque about his comment ...

Quote:

Originally Posted by Masque (Post 35225492)

... was that if VM continues to supply channels with poor content which is of no interest to the majority of its customers then it is VM that customers should complain to about the selection of channels (as opposed to the programming on them).

The remainder of my post was just reinforcing the point that, since the sale of the VMTV channels to Sky, the programming on the Sky and Living channels has deteriorated. If I were Sky I'd be embarrassed that Sky 1 has such a poor line-up, Sky 2 repeats a lot of that line-up and Pick (formerly Sky 3) is a selection of that line-up. The pattern is similar with Sky Living, Sky Living It, Sky Living Loves.

Where are the new episodes and the original programming? There may be some but not much in proportion to the amount of old, repeated material.

I don't normally comment on the selection of programmes on individual channels because usually a significant cross-section of the viewing public finds a reasonable amount to their taste on a given channel throughout the week. Indeed I have criticised other posters in the past for pooh-poohing a channel or a programme based on the principle that "it's rubbish, I don't watch it, so it's pointless having it on VM" when others may enjoy it. However, at the moment, there doesn't appear to be, IMHO, a whole lot across all of the Sky/Living channels that I have on the XL package that is of interest to a large number of the VM customers and that hasn't been shown before.

Maybe it's just a seasonal change issue and when the Summer schedules start things will improve but, right now, most of the Sky stuff seems to be Deja Vu all over again!

l am looking forward to that , the bit that irritates me is it seems we will not get the lower-case on denphone's services till mid 2012 which is staggering to say the least surely he should have started work with this on the signature a year ago what that and no up to date interactivity will disappoint people a lot in my mind.:D

I come back to this thread after almost a week and there's nothing coming soon and it's full of cr@p! What's going on? Can moderators not control the drivel on this forum? ;-)

Seriously, create a "social network" thread elsewhere! This used to be a good place for updates, even some speculation and rumors, but when the posts are irrelevant, it get's tedious to look through.

Please.

I must say I enjoy the banter that goes on , it helps to keep the thread ongoing untill VM actually has something "coming soon" .
