Fair enough. I shall wait and see what they bring out for that - just need my call regarding Tivo to come through now!

Perhaps not too much more though. The difference in price between the old VIP20 and VIP50 prices was a bout a fiver but the VIP50 had the 50 meg broadband and the Sky HD channels, which was far more than a fiver's worth.

Will have to wait and see I guess

I'm just annoyed that I was tied into a new 12 Month contract by taking the HD channels for 6 months and was told the new VIP prices will definately not be going up when they revised them in 6 months!!

You can get out of contract, for price increases on the affected service.

Well, I am sorry after 12 years I shall be leaving VM if my VIP50 goes up to £109 as reported. If you can cancel without penalty - I'll stick with the BB and sack the rest.

Sad days. :(

That's what I'll be doing. Keep the BB and Phone and have a look at SKY HD. It comes up cheaper doing it this way than staying on VIP!!

I'm not watching TV enough to justify spending £109 a month, but we do use the internet a lot and my GF uses the phone. The few channels we watch are only on XL (Comedy Central HD, Cartoon Network, and Sky Movies HD), but to save about £50 a month I'll happily give them up. We watch more DVD's and Blu Rays these days anyways, so won't really miss them.

I was thinking the same. SKY will see this and obviously freeze there prices...

They'll probably make a big announcement too like........ "Our prices have frozen, unlike Virgin Media"

They need to be improving it if that is the price increase. Now they are dishing Tivo out to people the really need to releaes the new VIP packages which include it. It can't take that long to do them surely.

Something I'm painfully aware of with my VIP50 install date being tomorrow afternoon. Having been a Sky World customer for 15 odd years, I have to seriously consider staying with them even longer. If this had been the price when I signed up 6 weeks ago then I don't think I would have considered making the move.

I could get unlimited DVD rentals from LoveFilm each month for the amount Virgin are hiking their prices by.

I can't get a SKY bundle to beat my VIP20, ESPN makes the difference. Whereas I'm far from happy with these prices rises, for what I want, I can't get it cheaper.

Rock and a hard place???

Actually, thinking about this... will my VIP20(plus prem HD chans) go up in price, as the prices quoted are for VIP30(with no Prem HD)?

I was thinking that and that's what has got me about it all. Mind you, they could say that VIP20 are getting more i.e. upgrade to 30Mb but as it's supposed to be a free upgrade (bar the activation fee of course)

Don't forget the loss of Bravo, Channel One etc.

Virgin must have some mega plans in the pipeline for VIP customers over the next 2 months to justify the price hike. Especially with the money from the sale of VMTV burning a hole in their pocket. I'm sure they are going to blow us away because at the moment they are asking us to pay more for less.

That would be a great help Ben, thank you.

I think VM may find a lot of people ditching the VIP packages if that is the correct price. Unless of course that is what they are wanting us to do!

I think it's almost certain that I'll be ditching the TV. This price increase has really prompted me to look at exactly what I use, and to be honest it's only really the Internet and the occasional phone call (usually in the evening). The TV I really wouldn't miss at all.

Seeing how I upgraded to VIP50 last May I'm still in contract (think it's a 12 month one), so I'll likely be slapped with a charge.

Damned if I do and damned if I don't :(

Thought that was only if the price goes up on your bill before they tell you the prices are going up.

As far as I can see these new prices aren't gonna hit our bills till April, and they're going to send letters/emails telling us about them before that. Unless there's a "if you don't like it, you can downgrade/cancel at no charge" on the letter or email I don't see why they wouldn't claw some extra money from us via an early cancellation/disconnection fee.

Because the law states they can't.

A price increase is a detrimental change to your contract, which means that you have the option of breaking the contract. They can't charge you for doing so, it's basic contract law, and no terms in a contract can over ride your rights in law. Any term that said you'd have to pay cancellation fees for cancelling due to price rises would be classed as an unfair term and be deemed unenforceable.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Im still in shock at the price increase .... specially after the promise last year of a revamp and no price increases for a better package.

Unless the extra £12 includes a free upgrade / swapout for tivo then I will seriously look at downgrading or even moving back to Sky or Freesat ... £12 a month with nothing new in the package is simply unjustified IMHO and then they expect £149 (min maybe £189) extra for tivo plus an extra £3 a month ... sorry VM you have lost the plot completely if thats your plan

at those price increases there is no way I would contemplate tivo unless included in the package price including free box and install

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

It does get you wondering. When i first took out VIP it was great value for money, so much so even not using all the products like the second box it was still cheaper than any other package.

When Sky HD appeared i decided to take the VIP50, as for the 2 pound extra it wasn't a bad deal HD+50mb.

However at about £10 more for HD and 50mb it's not looking so good when 20mb is going to 30mb anyway.

As someone who doesn't really use the phone at all or the second box, i'm starting to wonder if there is a cheaper way of doing it. I shall have to play around with packages but it really does look like VIP is getting too pricey, especially if you're thinking of Tivo at 150 quid and yet another 3 quid per month. You're going to be hitting >£110 per month which is getting ridiculous.

Infact a quick glance it would seem i could get:

XL BB
XL TV
L Phone
SKY sport/movies
Sky HD
V+ Box

For £96

Where VIP50 will be costing me £110, for a net connection i don't really need, and a second box that sits in a cupboard and never been unboxed, and free daytime calls when we're both at work.

Even with tivo, £99 per month will be significantly better then VIP50 with tivo even if there is no £3 charge in the package.

Choosing the VIP30 components from the "Create your own bundle" page comes to £100.05, which is 50p per month cheaper than the VIP bundle itself on the new pricing.

The wording of the VIP pages does not suggest any inclusion of Sky Premium HD in either bundle.

Thanks Ben thats a better picture ... BUT are VIPers the only ones getting an increase or are ALL tiers getting an increase ?

wish they could get information out and about more frequent and of course easily understood and correct would be a big advantage

now to get them to do upgrades through the bill instead of by card over the phone and I may consider Tivo ... just maybe if they gonna keep refreshing the VIP packages instead of letting them stagnate and go out of date

Where a service is getting an increase, it will affect everyone with it

To clarify

VIP 20 will be £95.55 from April

VIP 50 will be £100.55 from April

Both of these are a rise of £3.15 only

Sorted, I pay £96.64 for VIP20 as it is now :D

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I'm currently on £97.40 for my VIP50 so a slight increase like that I can live with - phew. So any VIPers with Tivo should be paying £103.55. That's fine by me!

Thank you for clarifying that costs for us there Ben, much appreciated :)

BenMcr 02-02-2011 20:03

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Ah damn, those prices I've been given are for new sales (although everyone on VIP 50 pays the same)

Those on VIP 20 from before April will see a £3.15 increase on what they are paying now - so as before is probably better value to swap to VIP 50 (or wait till the TiVO VIP pricing is announced)

---------- Post added at 19:03 ---------- Previous post was at 19:02 ----------

Although I would expect if you go from VIP 20, to VIP with XL (30) you would also drop to £95.55

Very true, so pleased I'm a relatively calm person and just waited for Ben to come back with the info.

Bet there's been a big drop in blood pressure for some forum members - I think Ben deserves an addition to his reputation for the calmness since his clarification on the pricing :)

I too am on the VIP50 package and also hope that VIP100 will be the same price looking at the current broadband costs 100meg is now what 50meg was.

100Mbit is £10 more than 50Mbit is currently priced at, so same for VIP with 100. It will be £110.55

Phew - thanks Ben. Just repped you again. Very helpful indeed. I was all ready to cancel when I got my email / letter

Thanks Ben, for investigating this.

Can you (or anyone else) confirm there is going to be revised VIP bundles incorporating TiVo? Not looking for details, a yes/no/don't know would be appreciated.

BenMcr 02-02-2011 23:26

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

It would be odd if there wasn't a high end bundle that included TiVo though have no clue over any of the details

Hmmm, so 30Mb BB is going to be £1.50 a month cheaper according to the press release. So rather than passing this saving on to VIP customers, they're going to be giving them a £3.15 a month increase. Nice! Surely this is a sign that there will be no £3 a month TIVO charge for VIPers?

Thanks for clarifying the prices anyway Ben.

BenMcr 02-02-2011 23:45

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

There is no increase in the cost of either XL or XXL broadband core costs (before discounts)

The £1.50 drop is for XL on the lower prices is due to a £1.50 increase in the discount - obviously the VIP discount is a larger amount in the first place giving a deeper reduction off the pricing.

The £3.15 increase in VIP is due to increase of TV and Phone services, not broadband - same as it affects all other customers who have the same bits (e.g. TI/TM etc)

As I did say earlier it's also likely that anyone VIP 20 price from before April 2010 will be able to drop down to the current price (saving about £3 or so) by going to XL (30)

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Looks like you have 3 boxes while the std VIP50 only covers 2, so that might be why it's costing you more, oh and you have caller display, I don't think that is covered either.

You've also got an additional STB, and caller display which aren't included in the £97.

Hi

Additional costs are extra box (15.00-9.40disc) = £5.60
non DD billing £5.00
Caller Display £2.05

Additional cost of £ 12.65 from £ 110.05 = £ 97.40

Like you I wish VM would adopt a better pricing structure!!

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Ben, anyone would of thought you were putting the prices up personally! £3.15 increase across all what you get on VIP50 isn't too bad.

Thanks once again Ben.

Well took the plunge
I'm now a VIP50 customer !! ( As from March 2nd )

Quoted £ 109.45, which includes my additional V+HD box, and caller display
so seems about right. No installation or activation fees either.

Confirmed that the April increase will be about £3, with an additional £3 for Tivo as and when.

Again thanks Ben for all the info.

P.S. Can I now gripe about VIP customers getting a raw deal

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Been debating going onto VIP50, out of contract but didn't know whether to wait for a VIP TiVo deal to be announced.

Last bill was over £105 with £20+ being calls and the rest:

Advance charges £86.59

Main services (Provided by Virgin Media Ltd or Virgin Media Payments Ltd) £57.09

Telephone Line Rental 25 January - 24 February £12.24
Loyalty Pack B B/ Phone/TV B Sky 25 January - 24 February £-21.00
Talk Weekends Local (The 4p Plan) 25 January - 24 February £0.00
TV Size: X L 25 January - 24 February £25.00
1 Additional V Box 25 January - 24 February £15.00
V+ HD Box 25 January - 24 February £10.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount 25 January - 24 February £-9.40
Broadband Size: L 25 January - 24 February £25.25
Premium TV channels (Provided by Virgin Media Entertainment) £29.50
Description Date/period Amount
Movies4,Movies5,Sports1,Sports2 25 January - 24 February £29.50

What's the cost to upgrade, and should I do it now, or wait in people's opinion?

Cheers

BenMcr 03-02-2011 14:43

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Sorry to do this, but it's not really that difficult (unless I'm just getting a bit priced out today!)

VIP 50 is £100.55 from April

So £100.55 minus £86.59 equals .........

Chase 03-02-2011 14:55

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

With calls included, it's more than likely better value for us. Don't mind paying that price, if i can't get a (much) better deal on what services we've got.

Is there an upgrade fee at all?

BenMcr 03-02-2011 14:58

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

You have to pay £20 for 50Mbit activation. Installation is currently free

You should at the same time be offered a swap out of the SD box for a V HD box with HD activated included within the (free) install

Chase 03-02-2011 15:00

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thanks Ben - if I was to wait for TiVo would I be able to keep the V+ with it and get rid of the SD box do you know?
