I would like Virgin to do a multiple announcement , that is sky sports and movies HD , ESPN America HD , Film 4 HD and Five HD.

Lots of speculation around - exciting times for Virgin just as I am forced to leave them having been patiently waiting it out for more HD for past 2.75 years. Moving away from London to wilder parts of the UK where Virgin do not have a service - so back to Sky for me. Will miss the VOD element.

I hope 5HD makes it on 13th though...and for once as a SKy customer I will be waiting for an HD channel - Film 4 HD lol....

It's not actually speculation but what has been formally announced. In the July print edition of Virgin's Electric mag they said that Film4 HD would arrive on July 8th on channel 429. Plans have changed and now we have the trailer for the channel showing on the Channel 4 channels saying July 20th and it will be on 432. I think you can forget it appearing on July 8th unless that's a "soft launch" for testing.

Plans have not changed that I'm aware of. Film4 are telling fibs. Although it is their channel though... It's definitely on 429 so not sure why they say different.

sky seem to be playing on the fact that it is the only place to watch all football coverage in HD, so only HD 1 AND HD 2 me thinks. unfortunately

Okay I might be asking for a bit much with Sports 3 + 4 HD:p:, but all the rest is very much a possibility

Five HD some info...

Dear Correspondent

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Five HD which has been forwarded to us by Paul Leather.

This channel will launch on Tuesday 13th July on channel number 171 on Sky+ HD. The first HD programme will be the 13:45 episode of Neighbours, and the channel will be a simulcast of our main channel.

We are exploring options with regard to making Five HD available on other platforms such as the cable service provided by Virgin Media but no additional information is available at the moment.

Sky Player is the name of Sky's online Tv service and On Demand system. The announcement recently was that Sky content would be available On Demand with Vorgin as well but whether it takes the form of Sky Player and what content will be available is still debatable.

Not sure what you mean by Sky Player.

Virgin will getting TV On Demand versions of Sky programming as part of the agreement over the sale of Bravo/Living etc. Whether this will then be available on the Virgin online player or not is not yet known.

Non Sky customers can already use the online Sky Player itself

I'm pretty sure 429 is correct if you look at where it would fit in on the EPG. It also says 429 on the Film4 website: http://www.film4.com/features/article/hd

As for the continued over speculation of when SS1 HD and SS2 HD will be with us, don't worry, be patient, it WILL be here in time for the start of the Premiership season. Love it or hate it, it IS the flagship bearer sport content and Virgin will make it available as soon as it is available for broadcast from SKY, as the content WILL undoubtedly bring customers and revenue to VIRGIN.

They Launch skysports on BtVision on the 31/7 so would expect similar timescale here for the hd variants.

quitea lot most of it goign to 100/200/400mb , 5/10/20/50mb upload conenction

but it oculd give about 3-5 hd channesl depending on ocmpression etc

Virgin Media update (July 8th).

I have been told that Virgin Media will remove NME Radio from Channel 975 ''In the next few days''.

I have also been told that Virgin will launch Film4 HD on Channel 429 sometime soon ahead of it July 20th launch date. Viewers will see an ''Film4 HD launches here'' sign when it launch until July 20th.

As far as I know FIVE HD will only launch on Sky on Tuesday and NOT Virgin Media. But that time of posting FIVE HD was testing on Virgin Media but no Insiders can confrim to me that Virgin will launch FIVE HD on Tuesday.

As a few people have mention regarding the price when Sky HD arrives, I've been told it will not cost extra as Virgin would have advertised by e-mail when people got there e-mails regarding this subject. Sky dropping the HD extra cost is going to make it an interesting summer as too who signs up to what.

Hello all, long time snooper of this forum.

Just been over a mates house and he has a dodgy box set up, noticed he had HD varients of the sky movie channels. His box wasn't HD though so i couldn't actually see anything on them... Figured i'd let you know they are testing them. Didn't check for Sports HD though (slipped my mind completely)

Don't want to repeat anything that may have already been mentioned, however I have noticed on the Sky listings for their football coverage, they seem reluctant to give a channel name for many of the premier league games coming up.

The first couple of weeks of premier league action seem to be on HD1 and HD2, however beyond that, and your guess is as good as mine.

I for one just crossing my fingers that all premier league games are on 1 and 2. I mean last season, you would have found it hard to find a premier league game, yet even a league game not on 1. It would be crafty from sky...

Thoughts people??

This has already been discussed.

They have been warned by OFCOM that if they shift games to SS3/4 then they will look into adding those channels to the ruling.

Right, thought there may be something like that to stop sky doing this. I can understand it for things like the SPL and CL as these were on 3 and 4 last year.. so no complaints there.

Blimey, Blimey.....I really wish these nonsense SKY will move Premier stuff to SS3 and 4. They won't be doing so, unless there is a good scheduling reason for doing it. SS1 & 2 are the flasgship channels and advertisers and sponsers wouldn't be happy for them to shift to the perceived 'lesser' channels.

All this conspiracy stuff needs to stop and folk need to get a grip

Not Sky Sports 3, but Sky Sports Xtra (now "4") carries extra Champions League games, as does the Red Button service, during the early stages. Many of the Away games are only shot in SD I think; games from the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy should be in HD but I don't think other countries are so generous.

first spl live match on sky sports hd 4 and 4 so looks like we wont get spl in hd but to be fair i think spl was on hd 3 last season so not really changed...

GMTV rebranded as 'Daybreak'

ITV have confirmed that GMTV will be rebranded as Daybreak.

Launching in September, the show will be hosted by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley.

The £1.5m relaunch will include new music and graphics along with a new studio overlooking the River Thames which will be equipped with technology for high-definition broadcasting.

Chiles and Bleakley will be joined by a team of special correspondents with the aim of bringing viewers a more news-led show along with entertainment, human interest and sport features.

According to this on Sky's website comparing Sky Sports packages on Sky and Virgin Media, Sky Sports red button launches in 2011.
Also no mention of Sky Sports News HD coming to VM.

Interesting reading, that link. Sky say that some interactive features for Sky Sports won't be available on VM until next year.

They also state that VM may launch more HD channels soon. What, like Film4 and probably Five HD? :D

I don't know, I thought they were quite generous by Sky's standards! They say we've already got Sky Sports 1 and 2 HD, and don't deny that SSN HD will ever come :D

Yes I thought the same. Sky are bound to make their offering look better. As far as I am concerned I could not have Sky HD due to dish issues so any extra Virgin HD channels will be more than welcome. Looking forward to the Movies in HD.

Well, the 'VM may launch more HD channels' soon, for one. There is no 'may'.

Fair play to Sky, their doing what any company would (should?) do and their highlighting their strengths compared to their competitors weaknesses.

I think you need to read it again....and also remember that this is a Sky piece trying to sell you why it is best to stay with them rather than go elsewhere..

It doesn't say 'Sky Sports red button launches in 2011'....it says 'Some interactive services available from 2011' - which could be read as 'Not all interactive services available until 2011.

Sky are not going to sell the positives of Virgin....why would they tell Joe Public about how good the competition are?????

SS3 and SS4 HD were excluded from OFCOM's pay-TV investigation and therefore, were never (realistically) on the table for Virgin. Maybe in the future, but, not yet.

No real surprise regarding SSN HD either.

I hate $ky so much - but I dont like Virgin either for holding back on over 200 channels that could be on Virgin and yes some channels that $ky have are a waste of space but PEOPLE LIKE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT OTHERS DONT

I am paying around £50 for TV XL with HD when $ky are offereing at a simular price with lots more.

As soon as $ky get rid of £10 HD charge and call out fee to fix the box etc - Its goodbye Virgin and Hello $ky. Its real, Its damn real. And Im not Kurt Angle :)

Yes i have this feeling but the 200 channels that are on sky are mainly talkshows EG:

1 = I became a serial drug user because my parents did not love me

2 = I became disposed from reality because my parents did not love me

3 = i became a serial r*****t because my parents did not love me

Sorry about this but i am getting fed up about people getting on about the channels the SKY have got and the channels that VM have got.

But Virgin aren't holding back 200 channels! On Sky the channels pay sky to get an epg slot, on virgin, virgin have to pay them to get a carriage agreement. Thats the reason new channels always appear on sky first, they have the widest possible audience and therefore gain the most from advertisement revenue. Sky have no choice generally speaking but to accept a channel onto its platform, virgin is a closed private company who has the choice of what to carry and when

But do Sky offer you TV choice on demand, free EPSN, over 2000 music videos, and more than 500 films to watch at any time? (yes the advert has been imprinted in my brain when it says filmflex 500 films)
