Christ Almighty, Vidic had a shocker of a game, at Old Trafford of all places. No wonder United nearly got booed off the pitch. Torres' goal was good, Dossena's chip was a bit special, but Liverpool basically had the form over United. Am hoping that next game, that's put right. ;)

I always knew that Arsenal win games on dogdy goals, the Gallas goal that won it for Arsenal was OFFSIDE, it was spotted by TV, but the pocksy officials didn't give it, l wonder how much Whinging Wenger gave Mike Riley, and did you see Barmby run onto the pitch, I how Chlesea beat em. I'll support Chelsea on that day.

What an arrogant, ignorant French prat Wenger is, his side win by an offside goal and he storms off down the tunnel without shaking hands with anyone from Hull.

Still, it confirms my opinion that M Riley is one of the worst refs on show ATM.

What is it with all you guys? United always "get the dodgy decisions", Arsenal "Always get the dodgy decisions" and so on.

It's bad, Yes. One of the reasons I think we need to use technology more considering the high price losing a match can cost. It's football though. Both United and Arsenal would have had decisions go against them as well as for them this season.

yes Arsenal win their games because they are engaged in a conspiracy to be awarded dodgy goals  Shame we are still 4th really!

Re: Football : Season 08/09

I don't give a damn, who the side is, if you get a goal and it is OFFSIDE, or its HANDLED in the box and a goal is scored from it, then the goal should not stand, and again clearly the officials are again poor.

The Gallas goal was clearly offisde, and if l am not wrong this official has been involved in dodgy decisions more than once this season, Mike Riley is the worst referee in the PL at the moment, the best officials l have seen is Howard Webb and Mark Halsey.

We have to have another offical in the stand, who can watch a monitor and send a signal to the officials, if the goal goes over the line or is offisde.

Damien 17-03-2009 23:21

Haven't seen the goal, Does seem to have been way offside. I still don't know if people are implying Arsenal some how cheated as opposed to being luckily.

If someone brings up 1918 or whenever I will scream. ;) I think as a United fan you should be used to accusations of cheating after every game yourself ;) Go back a few pages and you will find them. People hate the top 4/5 clubs and always accuse of them of such things.

Apparently Hull's assistant manager is going to report Fabregas to the FA for spitting in his face on the pitch after the game.

Also reports of a tunnel bust up, no mention of pizzas at this time. :p:

I for one totally agree with what Phil Brown said after the game - "For their club captain Cesc Fabregas to spit at my assistant at the end of the game shows you what this club is all about."

Well that's idiotic because it does not show what are Arsenal are about. You really want to get into everything stupid a United Player does and say it is a indication of the club as a whole?

I want to know exactly what happened, It began as 'Spat in his face on the pitch', then it became 'Spat at his feet in the tunnel'. Did he just spit in the tunnel or was it obviously a intentional spit directed at the Assistant Manager?

We may never know because:

Hull should report it. It's not "tittle-tattling", it's following the proper channels. They have already made the accusation to the media so they should allow a proper Investigation to either suspend Fabregas or clear him of wrong doing.

As opposed to that they have selected to tell the media then claim a high ground of not reporting it to the FA. It should be the other way around!

Hopefully the FA will investigate anyway.

I think this is blown out of all proportion. The accusation is that he spat at the assistant managers' feet.

As much as I love seeing Arsenal getting in trouble, it's worth noting that spitting at someone is classed as assault and is dealt with the same way by the courts.

Seeing as there doesn't appear to be any mention of police involvement, it looks like we'll have to wait another day for Arsenal to get docked points.

We only have Hull's word on whether he was spitting "at" someone.

Brown has done a good job at Hull but there was clearly a large element of sour grapes.

He complained about Fabregas being on the pitch, how Fabregas was dressed (Have you seen some of your own jackets Phil?) and finally accused Fabregas of turning round and spitting at his assistant's feet. I don't think that would ever be classed as an assault even if the police had witnessed it.

Now if it was a Brian McClair nose clearance then that would have been a different matter. :D One of those could easily taken you feet away.

I think the best way to remove points from Arsenal would be to score more goals than them;)

It appears that all 3 people involved will be investigated by the FA. Phil Brown for questioning the integrity of the referee, Brian Horton for (allegedly) calling Fabregas an "arrogant Spanish *something not nice*'' and Fabregas for spitting at the feet of Horton.

All a bunch of sodding children  They get paid such high amounts of money, and yet we constantly hear of footballers being like teenagers. You have to ask why we bother with this sport sometimes

Well we all know, what club will get punished, and it won't be ARSENAL, The FA are scared stiff of the big boys such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.

It will be Hull that will get hit, ok the players get pots of money, but the officials are scared stiff, of the big guns and the FA will probably call the clubs and say don't do it again, they will then fine Hull to teach them a lesson.

Its a shame they dont have cameras in the tunnel. The only thing that was conclusive from the footage after the game was fabegras strutting around like a peacock, chest out, trying his best to look hard and intimidating, and very close to the hull players. Three off in two games! Well, we had to cock up four times, and that is two of them, best make sure we make no more.

And this is why a Quad is impossible, it requires too much tinkering to keep players fit, Fulham where already on top before Scholes went, we weren't in the game, no balance and second to everything.

If you go for four, you are as likely to end up with none as win any.

Thats because i've been busy, not just sitting infront of my pc like some, i didn't realise i have to post instantly after every game

Looks like we were totally outplayed again, i thought it was stange to not start Rooney and Tevez after they played so well against Fulham a couple of weeks ago, Chelsea losing eased the pain a bit lol. I think the international break is coming at a good time us.

Not really, they went at it in fairness, but dropping to 10 just inflated them for the rest of the half, it would have just been a question of time till they got tired playing at that pace. Plus you then have Berbatov on his own up front, and that isn't his game at all.

Second half was all UTD, played some great stuff at times and really should have grabbed at least a goal. As far as I could tell it was when not would we score.

Then you go to 9 and that is that. Sucker punch. Was bound to happen as time runs out.

Shadow Demon UK 21-03-2009 22:33

Re: Football : Season 08/09

I've just seen Rooney's red card, I didn't realise you can get booked for throwing the ball to your team mate, for a free kick awarded to your team, ridiculous decision if you ask me, yes he threw is quickly but being two goals down i doubt he was trying to throw the ball away to waste time. Looks like the ref's just trying to get his name in the papers again.

kingbuxton 21-03-2009 22:44

Re: Football : Season 08/09

Well, you don't throw the ball in dissent when you get awarded a freekick, so it's frustration at best? It's not a Yellow offence if not done to waste time or done to show disgust at a Ref decision. Who knows, it's Rooney at the end of the day, easy target.

The referee in the Liverpool / Aston Villa, should go back to school, and read the rule books again and look at a video, and realise he has got the sending off totally wrong, Brad Friedel was defending himself, and the player went over the top of him, Goalkeepers have a duty to themself. Totally disagree with the red card, and l just watched an excellant game, and l don't support either side, This is where you need another official to watch the TV and overule the decision.

Well yes, Liverpool actually looking like they'll finish above 5th in the league for a change, that will always bring some attention your way ;)

Re: Football : Season 08/09

An Aberdeen fan takes time out from shearing season to compose a small note regarding the standard of football on display at Pitoddrie.

----

Dear Aberdeen Football Club,

On Wednesday of last week I purchased 2 Adult tickets for the Scottish Cup replay between Aberdeen FC and the mighty Dunfermline Athletic. Having attended the fixtures against Bayern Munich, Copenhagen, East Fife, Manchester United (friendly), Fraserburgh (friendly), Liverpool (friendly) and Everton (friendly) in recent years, it goes without saying that the chance to see Dunfermline, possibly one of Europe's mightiest and most feared names, was an opportunity not to be missed. You can appreciate that finding the £21 (including a £1 booking fee) to buy two tickets was incredibly difficult given the current economic predicament our country finds itself in. I not only had to take on a second and third job, I also had to indulge in a wide variety of criminal activity (mugging old ladies, stealing from my friends, playing for Aberdeen Football Club and sending my sister out to work the streets) in order to come up with the required amount. When the tickets eventually hit my doormat it's safe to say I was so excited I nearly succumbed to a mild stroke......I was going to see the Athletic play at Pittodrie in the SCOTTISH CUP! How could I have been so lucky? Forget your Euro Millions....this was my dream ticket!

Sadly this brings me on to the reason for troubling such a busy and professionally run club such as you. Basically I am requiring a full refund (including the £1 booking fee). Having endured what can only be described as one of the dullest, most limp-wristed, spineless, wet-pantied performances I have ever had the displeasure of viewing in nearly 27 years of being a living breathing human being, I would say that a refund is fully justified. I would like to back up my claim by quoting you a definition of the word "entertainment" (football is supposedly a branch of entertainment after all);

en·ter·tain·ment (ntr-tnmnt)
n.
1. The act of entertaining.
2. The art or field of entertaining.
3. Something that amuses, pleases, or diverts, especially a performance or show.
4. The pleasure afforded by being entertained; amusement: The comedian performed for our entertainment.
5. Archaic Maintenance; support.
6. Obsolete Employment.

Please can you tell me at what stage during last night's proceedings were any of the above applicable? Would you classify any of the following as entertainment?

This can be argued furthermore with Darren Mackie chasing the shadow of his imaginary friend all night. The poor confused mind of Darren has an inherent suspicion of space and time. To Darren, space is a sinister creation of evil minds that are determined to imprison his precious talent.

As well as this, Jamie Langfield was kicking like he'd suddenly developed multiple sclerosis. He seemed to have it in for two people in particular, (Main Stand just above the dug out on half way and the South Stand beside the fence). Was he auditioning for the new series of Ground Force? He accompanied each successful touch finder with a spot of landscape gardening around his box. Last night Jamie was a cross between Stephen Hawking, Bill Oddie and Alan Titchmarsh.

There were also the two Professional footballers wilting under moderate pressure and missing penalties in front of their own fans. If Angus the Bull can smash them in why can't they? Angus wears silly wee foam boots and still rockets them into the bottom corner! Perhaps "Tricky" "Ricky" Richard Foster experiments with other forms of penalty footwear in future such as flip flops, clogs, hiking boots or flippers. Exactly what is he doing here? Clearly he's been spending too much time with Titters, Langers and Odders.

Watching a six foot turd in a black and white shirt wandering about at half time, Dunfermline’s mascot looks like the result of a nasty and painful trip to the little boys room. Why was he given permission to encroach on to the field of play?

As well as this, there was the entire matinee performance of Charlie Mulgrew. For a ‘man’ of such promising physical stature, why is it that opponents half his size and build continuously outmuscle and out jump him? I've seen a tin of sweetcorn stick up for itself with greater authority.

Moving on to what can only be described as our game plan. Physics is a wonderful and noble field and has been blessed by such greats as Newton, Einstein and Galileo. These leviathans of history have given us theories on relativity, laws of gravity and kinematics. Now please step forward Sir Jimmy of Calderwood. Clearly Sir Jimmy believes he can defy the laws of physics and has stumbled upon a new branch. The theory of relativity states that E=MC2, where basically speaking energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light. Sir Jimmy disproves this theory by stating that G=M2xLB/T which is basically goals equals Mackie squared multiplied by the long ball divided by the tombola. The laws of gravity do not exist in the Land of Jimmy. Gravitational forces do not effect strikers measuring 6 feet or less therefore balls rocketed skyward can be controlled and cushioned at any point during the balls trajectory. This eliminates the opposition selecting aging tall donkeys to mark our strikers.

A more appropriate definition of last nights action is as follows;

tor·ture (tôrchr)
n.
1.
a. Infliction of severe physical pain as a means of punishment or coercion.
b. An instrument or a method for inflicting such pain.
2. Excruciating physical or mental pain; agony: the torture of waiting in suspense.
3. Something causing severe pain or anguish.
tr.v. tor·tured, tor·tur·ing, tor·tures
1. To subject (a person or an animal) to torture.
2. To bring great physical or mental pain upon (another). See Synonyms at afflict <http://www.thefreedictionary.com/afflict> .
3. To twist or turn abnormally; distort: torture a rule to make it fit a case.

It is my duty to point out that under the terms of the Geneva Convention torture is illegal. For your benefit (as a SPL club I'm sure you'll be unaware of the Geneva Convention) I have included the relevant passages which do in fact prove that you were in breach of this convention and as such, also in breach of the terms of contract on the ticket I purchased.

“Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.”

Can you honestly say Aberdeen fans were treated humanely last night? A bullet to the brain would have been preferential to watching Mackie et al. Just because we're Aberdeen supporters doesn't mean we should be discriminated against. To this end the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:

1. (a) Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture; - Last nights performance ticks all these boxes.

(b) Taking of hostages; - I admit to attending of my own free will last night but was then held hostage for 120 minutes.

(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment; - Watching Bertrand Bossu warming up classifies as humiliating and degrading treatment

(d) The passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples. - Sir Jimmy Saville Calderwood cannot be recognized as an indispensable civilized person if he continues to rule that Darren Mackie is innocent of crimes against the art of striking a football.

2. The wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for. - Although Aberdeen Football Club employ what appears to be a small army of paramedics they offered me no care or attention in my hour of need. I appreciate that the paramedics are extremely busy discussing the latest episodes of Eastenders with the on duty Police, ensuring their high visibility uniforms and helmets are well turned out for the cameras and keeping their extremely expensive stretchers free from blood and mud but surely they could respond to emergencies slightly quicker. What type of injuries merit their assistance? Decapitations? Loss of limbs? Bullet wounds? I guess however, there is a potential for all such serious injuries given Jimmy Calderwood's predilection for football of mass destruction.

Please do not take my request for a refund as the veiled rantings of an angry and bitter supporter. I have long since given up hope that our club will return to its rightful place. The aim of this letter was to try and recoup some of my hard earned money so that I can pursue other avenues of entertainment that would surpass what I witnessed last night. For £20 I could purchase an annual subscription to a stamp collecting magazine AND have enough money left over to buy a Big Mac or possibly even Darren Mackie. (Please, If you are reading this and think that stamp collecting would be preferable to associating yourself with an underperforming football club riddled with cowardice and underachievement then you can follow this link, http://www.royalmail.com/portal/stam...diaId=32300677 ).

Yours sincerely (...and expecting his money back),

Angry Don.

P.S. I accept all major and minor credit cards in addition to cash. I should remind you that pretend money will NOT constitute payment of my debt. Furthermore a cheque from Stewart Milne will only be accepted upon completion of the due diligence done on his companies finances.

Shearer to become Newcastle boss
Breaking news

BBC Sport understands that Alan Shearer will be appointed as Newcastle manager until the end of the season.

Magpies legend Shearer, 38, has been continually linked with a return to the club and admitted in September 2008 he would like to be manager.

Chris Hughton is currently in caretaker charge at St James' Park as interim manager Joe Kinnear recovers from a triple heart bypass.

Shearer rejected an invitation to join Newcastle as a coach last November.

well apart from not being able to spell his name correctly :D Wouldn't it be better for him to take over when the team is established in the league. if he takes over now and they go down it will look bad on him and he could lose some of his fan base and might not get another management job either

It's going to be strange seeing him on the other side of the fence on MOTD.

As for Newcastle staying up, I think they would of anyway, just, and it seems any new manager gives a team a boost and someone with Alan Shearers stature certainly will. Long term it may be a different kettle of fish and they may end up in the same situation as my beloved Boro with a manager on a huge learning curve.
