Just agent leaking rumours to the press to negotiate better terms and a renewed contract, common practice breeds speculation.

here's the england England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Austria (8 October) and Poland (12 October):

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Robert Green (Norwich), Chris Kirkland (Liverpool/West Brom)

Defenders: Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Phil Neville (Everton), Luke Young (Charlton), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), John Terry (Chelsea), Sol Campbell (Arsenal), Ledley King (Tottenham)

Midfielders: David Beckham (Real Madrid), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Man Utd), Kieran Richardson (Man Utd)

Strikers: Michael Owen (Newcastle), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Darren Bent (Charlton), Peter Crouch (Liverpool).

Good to see Crouch and Campbell in the team. :)

Ruud agent dismisses exit talk
Ruud van Nistelrooy is staying at Manchester United, according to his agent.

The Dutch striker has been linked with a move to La Liga and possibly Real Madrid at the end of the season. However the player's representative Rodger Linse said Van Nistelrooy is putting down roots in Manchester and is buying a house.

Henry Stalls On Deal Talks

Arsenal striker Thierry Henry says he will not discuss a new contract until the end of the season - prompting speculation that he could be set for a cut-price move to Spain.

Henry will have only 12 months left on his deal when he finally sits down with Arsenal executives next summer, by which time his value will have plummeted.

The Frenchman claims that he wants to concentrate on football rather than contracts, but his reluctance will inevitably lead to speculation that he will wait to see the Gunners' ambition before committing himself.

Of course, missing from the second story is that Henry already owns a house in London and, indeed, has recently married an English girl. Still, why let facts get in the way of a good story?

Campbell, yes (particularly with Rio Ferdinand's current bout of being rubbish) but Crouch *and* Alan Smith? Total goals between them this season, anyone? [cue sound of Austrian defenders not quaking in their boots]

Maybe due to the fact that Smith has played every game this season in a defensive midfield position?

Exactly - he's being groomed as a possible successor for Roy Keane's position and whether or not he'll ever acheive that is another matter, but Keano has never been known for his goalscoring.

I hope we lose!

We're never going to win anything under Eriksson (spit) and it's the only way he'll go.
Get Harry Redknapp in and we'll have a chance to beat Poland and qualify through the runners up position.

We've probabley got some of the most gifted players in years and it's all going to waste.

im starting to think the only reason players like frank lampard look good are because of one off goals and the foreign contingent surrounding the england players to make them look good.

Look what he done for most of his time at West Ham and Portsmouth.

Look at the players he brought through West Ham,
Lampard,Ferdinand,Cole and Defoe are all in the squad.

He'll have the respect of the players and get us passing and crossing the effin ball.

Oh, and he's English.

Eriksson is the joke!

sherer 06-10-2005 10:45

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

Eriksson is going after the WC, if we get there, the FA have already told this to the England team sponsors. The FA haven't ruled out another foreign coach yet

Beckham will play as he has flown out to meet the squad now.. Even if he was missing a leg, or dead, Eriksson would still put him on the pitch

Against N.Ireland he played people who weren't fit even though we had Wright-Philips, Cole, Murphy, Richardson etc waiting to play who were

We can't win anything under Eriksson as he has no bottle to drop anyone, or any tacktical knowledge to do anything with the players he has.. He's already said he's likely to play Rio in front of Terry and that's just because when he started as manager it was Rio and Sol

One of the newspapers watched Eriksson when he was at a game and said he took no notes and barely seemed to notice what was going on in the match

sir_drinks_alot 06-10-2005 18:10

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

You know i really think Eriksson can take england to a world cup win. the game Against N.Ireland was a blup i mean thay hadn’t lost a qualifying game Since he took over in 01. the squad as a hole and the way the england set up works
Is alot more professional now than under any other england manager Eriksson's
Doing all the right stuff to take us to victory in 06.

Finally some sense, the f***in newspapers wreck our team with all their childish comments and poor comments. Look at errikson's record of competitive games? Look at the squad he got you all say its good right? well its only good because he was the first manager to have the guts to get rid of all the has beens. I think the truth is people dont like him because he isnt english and have always had it in for him, maybe he would pick a better team if the papers left him alone to do his job.

What a brilliant game!

We needed to win so it was god to see we went on the attack and got plenty of shots in on goal.
Beckham showed why he's captain and lead the others to a glorious triumph over one of the best teams in the world!

Like everton qualifying for europe, scrape in, knocked out straight away.

Nah, just illustrating that Germany aren't whaling the tar out of people at the moment. Very much a team in transition.

You'll have to add an explanation of what the 'World Cup Finals' are. Not many people round there will know :D

Don't be daft man! We know what they are! After all, every 4 years our newspapers are full of the excuses given by the players after getting unceremoniously dumped out of them by Germany or Argentina in the quarter finals (or when you get lucky, the semis - except of course in USA 94 when Turnip Taylor ensured you joined Wales by staying at home....) :)

Nop not this time Germany are a team of has beens Argentina's side is to young hell thay only get in to the Finals Because the other north American sides are rubbish. Brazil are the only ones who have a hope of stopping us. :D

And the most amusing thing is, I can tell you genuinely believe that!

Can't wait for the excuses next year when some team like France or Portugal knock England out in the quarter-finals. Will it be "our players were tired", "Beckham got sent off" or maybe an Alex Ferguson-inspired "Our players couldn't see each other because of the kit"?

Bookmark this page if you want, take a screenshot if you like because I give you this assurance - England will not win the World Cup next year. If they do - and get this - I will permanently change my signature to 'England Forever' :)
