That is about a quarter of the books I have read in the last couple of months - the better ones.

I speed read, probably about two to three books a week - Great North Road is taking me a bit longer, as it is 1100 pages.....

A very different book to any of Terry's previous offerings and far more Stephen Baxter. Terry's influence is in the oddities and quirks of the story rather than the basic plot. - Keep your potato with you. ;)

Dodger is a Dickensian Discworld with a brilliant central character. Dodger for me is a combination of Vime's street savvy, Carrot's chivalry, Nobby's light fingers and the intelligence of Vetinary.

Currently delving into the madness of Robert Rankin with The Mechanical Messiah and Other Marvels of the Modern Age.

See, Coburn likes blood. The rest of the walking dead, they like brains. He’s smart. Them, not so much. But they outnumber him by about a million to one. And the clotted blood of the walking dead cannot sustain him. Now he’s starving. And nocturnal. And more ****ed-off than a bee-stung rattlesnake. The vampire not only has to find human survivors (with their sweet, sweet blood), but now he has to transition from predator to protector — after all, a man has to look after his food supply.

A great read. Recommended.

Following on from that, I then read "Bad Blood" (a "Double Dead" novella), by Chuck Wendig. Half the size of the first one, but still great.

Next up will be Blackbirds and Mockingbird, also by Wendig.

It was actually a recent io9 review of Wendig's "Mockingbird" (the second Miriam Black novel) that got me into his books.

Peter F Hamilton - Great North Road

A great page turner, all 1104 of them :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-North-.../dp/0330521772

When attending a Newcastle murder scene, Detective Sidney Hurst finds a dead North family clone. Yet none have been reported missing. And in 2122, twenty years ago, a North clone billionaire was horrifically murdered in the same manner on the tropical planet of St Libra. So, if the murderer is still at large, was Angela Tramelo wrongly convicted? She never wavered under interrogation, claiming she alone survived an alien attack. Investigating this potential alien threat now becomes the Human Defence Agency’s top priority. St Libran bio-fuel is the lifeblood of Earth’s economy and must be secured. A vast expedition is mounted via the Newcastle gateway, and experts are dispatched to the planet – with Angela Tramelo, grudgingly released from prison. But the expedition is cut off deep within St Libra’s rainforests, and the murders begin. Angela insists it’s the alien, but her new colleagues aren’t sure. Did she see an alien, or does she have other reasons for being on St Libra?

Jonathan Kellerman - Guilt

A series of horrifying events occur in quick succession in the same upscale
L.A. neighborhood. A backyard renovation unearths an infant's body, buried
sixty years ago. And soon thereafter in a nearby park, another disturbingly
bizarre discovery is made not far from the body of a young woman shot in the
head. Helping LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis to link these eerie
incidents is brilliant psychologist Alex Delaware. But even the good doctor's
vast experience with matters both clinical and criminal might not be enough to
cut down to the bone of this chilling case-and draw out the disturbing truth.

I like a change to my usual diet of SF now and then. :) Is proving a good read so far.

God, that was a funny book.

The Hunters by Chris Kuzneski .

I absolutely love fiction books with an archaeological theme, especially ancient Egypt, can anyone recommend anything like this?

Haven't read either of them, I've got Stalingrad and Berlin the downfall, I'll keep an eye out for the other two.

Just finished Summers child it was a good read. I thought I had guessed the ending but was surprised at the ending, a really good twist in the story as I never would have guessed it in a million years. I was not disappointed at all in Summers child, now reading Reflection also by Diane Chamberlain.

Hard Duty by Mark E Cooper.

Book 1 of The Merkiaari Wars Series.

Seems a decent bit of hard SF. :)
