Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
It wouldn't make business sense for virgin or any other company to reveal all its plans so who knows what sort of box virgin have planned for us next. I for one are prepared to wait and are thankful of any snippets of news mediaboy or spiderplant bring us.

"As with its other DVRs, the new model will have access to over-the-top (OTT) services as well including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Instant Video and YouTube. It will also have the company's newest viewing options such as SkipMode that allows you to skip commercial breaks with a single button press." I know this is for the U.S. |

We certainly won't be getting advert skip. I did read elsewhere that Turner are developing a classic film on-demand service. I can envisage this coming to the UK and VM in particular. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Hasn't it been said that the contract with TiVo ends in 2018 though??
Does anyone know if it will be technically possible to drop the Horizon software onto the existing boxes that currently run on TiVo? ---------- Post added at 17:50 ---------- Previous post was at 16:46 ---------- Quote:

The TiVo will be around in my humble opinion for the next 5 years at least...

As for the existing Tivo contract, my guess is that it will simply be renewed for the desired period so that existing boxes can continue to be supported. |

Another forum member has stated that he has been told by a VM rep that "the V+ will be redundant by the end of the year". Will we then get TiVo software dropped onto the V boxes as mooted a few years back? A mop up of any customers still using old SD boxes could mean everyone on TiVo software in preparation for the introduction of Horizon. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
I'd imagine if the Tivo software is slow on the current boxes it would be even slower if run at all on the older V boxes.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
.... you raise a interesting point. What happens to the liberate software on the v boxes? I wonder how long the Liberate contract still has to run? Will the v boxes be phased out and the current "premium" tivo boxes become the bog standard ones instead.
I have a v box and it runs faster than the tivo, mainly because its 2 week guide was striped out of it some time ago. I seem to recall VM saying a few years ago that they would download tivo software onto the standard boxes minus the recording features. I can't say I'd be thrilled about that if that's still the plan. It's ironic that ALL Freeview boxes of today run faster than anything that VM offer. And as for Amazon Fire sticks, or Chrome, or any other USB stick, they are far, far, better than our "premium" boxes for which we pay a premium for. |
