Surely a dedicated cable network with far less users and therefore less traffic should cope much better with things and provide faster and more stable speeds?

is it far less users?

remember bt has much larger coverage so the users are spread out.

Personally I know far more ADSL users who have issues than cable users. It seems to be the problem that the provider blames BT or BT blame the provider... at least with NTL it's just one company. Of course that's a fat lot of good if it's not working I know, but people shouldn't make sweeping statements without backing them up

I agree.

I have occasional problems with NTL (usually when everyone else is having probs ie something BIG) but I have spent MANY hours during the last 6-8 weeks trying to get some sense (!) out of Wanadoo/ Orange concerning my dad's ADSL connection. The problem is a lousy line but how to get BT to improve that I just do not know. At the moment I am trying to organise a downgrade from 1meg to 512K service in the hope that will work.

From my experience when working with the company, I'd say those that are not yet done (me included) will now have a very long wait.

When the upgrades in March 2005 went ahead there were still customers many months later who did not yet have their upgrade. They are more concerned with getting it available to new customers. We were told to tell anyone complaining that there was an ongoing issue with no timescale for a fix. I left a few months later so I don't know if this ever got sorted.

So if you're still waiting for an upgrade....it's obvious to me the bulk got done last week. If it hasn't happened yet, get used to your current speed as it is now unlikely to change in a hurry.

Who knows, but I v.much doubt this has anything to do with your upgrade... this is a "network" upgrade, not an account upgrade... these appear on the status page every week!
