One small problem - the voters’ signatures and identifying information are on the envelope which contained the ballot, and the envelope is discarded after the envelope is received, validated, and processed; this ensures the information on the actual ballot slip (how the voter voted) remains secret (as required by law). There is no actual way to match up the ballots (which have no voter identification on them) with the envelopes, even if they had kept the envelopes. This is why they can do a recount (how many votes did each candidate get), but not who voted for which candidate (because this would be illegal, as it would defeat the whole "secret ballot" thing). https://ballotpedia.org/Processing,_..._Georgia,_2020 You would have thought that the President (or his lawyers) would know this... |

Re: U.S Election 2020
I think that's how we do it in the UK as well. I've done a few postal votes as during the last few elections it was never for sure I would be where I needed to be for voting (an underlooked problem tbh) and yeah you have to sign two forms and do an envelope inside an envelope.

Re: U.S Election 2020
Georgia really is certified now, the former statement was premature apparently but they have since confirmed Biden is the winner.
With the lawsuits failing in Michigan and Pennsylvania then this appears done. Trump might be trying to get Michigan's GOP lawmakers to overturn the results but they've said they won't, they certainly won't if it doesn't change anything and Biden no longer needs Michigan as Arizona and Nevada seem certain to call. Wisconsin isn't needed either now. Really do wonder what else Trump can do at this point? Are the states all going to certify, the college convenes, and he still refuses to acknowledge he has lost? And what about the administration in charge of transition? Are they really not going to allow Biden to prepare for Government so the first time? |
Re: U.S Election 2020
I work with a number of Americans.
None of them think either is a good choice. They mostly just think Biden will be less of a disaster than Trump. |
Re: U.S Election 2020
Yeah, Biden was a weak candidate although he did what he needed to do in the end. Biden got the nomination by being 'the best of the rest' at the time Sanders was surging and the DNC didn't want Sanders to be the candidate. The DNC thought Sanders was too left-wing for America and - look at how the Democrats other than Biden performed - that was right.
Biden won precisely because he was perceived as less of a risk and his campaign mostly let Trump do the talking. It was also hard for the Trump campaign to make the idea he was some dangerous communist leftie take hold. |
