Exactly and even though there are a few gremlins currently l can see no reason why suddenly they would want to get rid of it especially given that there is a next generation TiVo STB on the way in the next couple of years which is likely to have even more enhanced functions.

which again seems odd if theyre trying to bring virgin media fully into the liberty global family which not have everything the same?? same tv box etc. makes me again think they're keeping the two businesses apart, renewing the basic contracts for tivo, upgrading the network to make everything look attractive for a perspective buyer...

i dont know den maybe i'm thinking too much its just all a bit odd at the moment. but then again i'm stuck in work over analysing things... if i was a billionaire i'd buy virgin media and then offer free tv for you den!

do we think a new tivo box will come out then

Maybe you're right Vince, unless TiVo is a MUCH bigger USP than is currently assumed.

It does seem very odd not to integrate their own box into the VM network along with the associated cost savings eg economies of scale, not having to pay TiVo licensing fees etc.

l have a hunch we will see a new enhanced TiVo STB sooner then you think Vince as remember a lot goes on behind the scenes which we don't see.

Expect a announcement towards end of this year.

LGI have many different boxes. Some here make a fuss about Horizon, but less than 10% of LGI customers have them. 40% of LGI customers are still on analogue.

There are always license fees no matter what box you have.

I didn't know that SP, so Horizon isn't as important/inevitable as I had previously thought.

Don't they own the technology of Horizon?? I had erroneously assumed that they wouldn't have to pay licensing fees for the Horizon boxes.

The middleware is from NDS, and many other bits are bought in too.

Indeed however NDS is no more , Mr Murdoch's News Corp and private equity firm Permira sold it to Cisco. I believe Cisco now own the licenses.

Spot on post. Couldn't have summed it up better myself. It certainly is interesting times. If virgin media do double speed again I may call up and just beg them to spend the engineers time on sorting out the fatal utilisation issues in my area. Sometimes I'm hitting a lovely 110mb. During peak times I'm barely hitting 10mb

I wish they'd sort these problems out first before going for the media grabbing news stories of double speed!

I certainly wish more priority was given to reliability of existing speeds, than pushing for faster ones - that is fair.
