Even more so for united, Newcastle need him more than Man United

for that matter, Arsenal haven't managed back-to-back Championships for about 30 years
Bit longer than that, I'm afraid - 1934 and 1935 was the last time. We've done two in three years since then (89/91 and 02/04).

Rooney is showing worrying signs of Gascoigne syndrome, unfortunately. We always seem to eat our young in the UK. Not sure either Man U or Newcastle would be great for him - Roy Keane or Lee Bowyer as your role model?

The fourth final you probably were thinking about was the European Super cup, but that doesn't really count as its basically a european charity shield. We didn't win that, beaten one nil by Lazio.

so looks like we ging to miss out on another transfer target.. i'd love to see him at United and think he would play instead of Smith .. rumours are that if we got him Nistelrooy could go

Yes, but I'm not one to boast :)

Now we've got all the British clubs which have got to finals, what about all those who've ever played in Europe?

We can add Millwall and Middlesbrough to the list this year:

MILLWALL v Ferencvaros (Hungary)
MIDDLESBROUGH v Banik Ostrava (Czech Republic)

Also:
HEARTS v Braga (Portugal)
Newcastle United v Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin (Israel)
RANGERS (Scotland) v Maritimo (Portugal)

Sir Alex would be a fool to play rooney ahead of smith in the first team.

Anyway United only put a bid in for rooney after newcastle did, before 'the money wasnt there' it seem united where willing to play the waiting game for rooney but have had their hand forced by the magpies

You probably wouldn't remember this but when Ryan Giggs was up-and-coming, SAF fiercely protected him from the media, he'll do the same when...erm, I meant if (;)) Rooney signs for Utd.

I'm not that young. I remember hearing (when I lived in the NW) of AF storming up to Blackpool one night and physically removing a young Giggs from a party.

Like he did with Beckham and Lee Sharpe?

I'm not saying I think you're young, it's just you don't really strike me as someone who pays much attention to other teams

I stand corrected then!

Yes, that sort of thing.
