Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
Seems to me that Virgin are operating the Apple business model, pay for fixing problems. To me I feel we are paying extra for Virgin to provide a reliable up to date service and fixing their existing problem with current equipment/solution. When you lease a car it normally gets upgraded after period time for free, you don’t pay anymore other than the usual increases through inflation etc. So why should it be different for renting a TV service, it should be update and enhanced as matter of course? Most of the features of the Tivo are available from Net TV’s, blue ray players, PS3, media boxes, xbox and Iphone etc for free. So what are we paying for?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
It's a premium product, not an upgrade or simple improvement. If you want to wait for the free version, then you can do so.
The current product V+HD is equal to Sky+HD. The new product provides additional services. Not everyone has a PC / PS3 / media streamer and not everyone has them in their living room. VM aren't trying to sell it to people who don't want it or need it - it's for customers who recognise the benefits of having such a product andf are willing to pay the price. Like most things, in time this will become the norm for VM TV customers and will be well used and well liked. Finally something that gives VM a real edge over Sky (where available). |

TiVo just closes the gap (Ok, goes past Sky) that Virgin customers have dealt with for years. The V+ EPG is rubbish in comparison and the equipment is unreliable and antiquated. The only thing V+ has over Sky is the extra tuner and VOD, and even Sky has VOD now (all be it a crappy implementation). |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
I didn't say which was best (V+HD or Sky+HD), simply that they are equal products in the market place. There's not a big enough gap for it to be considered a problem or issue with VM. Sky isn't perfect either - I was with them for years and had problems.
This snow for one I'll bet is causing grief for many Sky customers! ;-) |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
I know Sky isn't perfect (again from personal experience), but I don't think the quality of the offering of V+ can be described as equal to Sky+HD. Maybe "equivalent" would be a better word.
I never once had a snow/rain issue with Sky, but know people who did. Guess I was the lucky one |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
Everybody has their own view, personally the V+ is far superior to Sky+HD for me as the additional tuner is of high priority to me, would never have a Sky+ for that issue alone. Its all down to perception and what is really important to you, I have a SA V+ which is reliable and responsive so don't have the slow EPG issue others have had, so I suppose I am lucky as well.
Lets just say each have their strengths where the only one of significance to me on Sky+ is the better looking EPG and larger HDD, which will not be the case now from how Tivo appears to me + larger HDD as well. |

Could never get on with the Sky+ EPG, always found it inferior to the VM version being able to watch a channel while looking through the EPG |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
One reason I will go for this is for the brilliant Tivo UI.:)
