Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

We as you know my mum is in hospital, she's been in the Royal Free since the 13th of July.

So I've been working, shopping, cooking and trips to London to see my mum, and add on to that I'm not sleeping to well and it feels like my candle is not only burning both end the bugger is burning in the middle.

So my sister made a Dr's appointment about a cough I have and she came with me and it resulted in me being sent for X-ray & Blood tests, and 2 weeks off work.

Did I mention I am now officially allowed to have an SPK when my foot is healed up.

I'm so not sure if I want one or just a kidney.

Choices choices.

Ok i will asked the question, what is an SPK? ;)

dilli-theclaw 24-10-2015 18:37

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

That is when you get both a kidney and a pancreas.

Simultaneous Pancreas and Kidney. (Transplant)

I can have just a kidney or both or none. The Dr's recommend the SPK but it entails a increased risk of not surviving the operation.

That way lies no pain but a life expectancy of around three years.

It's around ten years if i have a Kidney and anyone's guess if I go the whole hog and have an SPK :)

Which to be honest is probably what I'll end up doing.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Well being signed off by the Dr I'm doing what I want, so on Wednesday I went to the Royal Free to see my mum.

I was in there unpacking some stuff I'd taken in for her when a nurse sticks her head in the door and said "Have you heard the good news, your moving to your local hospital today".

So I was able to travel back with her and we got to our local about 9pm :D

The only downside is that our local as two 1-1/2 hour sessions rather than the 6 that the RF had, but its 15/20 minutes door to bedside. :D

l know exactly what its like to have a choice as 15 years ago it was either live a couple of days or have a LVAD implanted so basically there was only one choice l could make and here l am still here making a fool of myself 15 years later.:)

Cheers guys. Gradually feeling more comfortable and it's soooo good to be home and able to get some sleep in my own bed. A couple of weeks taking things and bit easy and I ought to be a lot better I'm led to believe. :)

Sadly, my old man's on morphine now and gradually fading away as his appetite is gone. He's up and about and I've told him he must eat to keep the calories going in even if he's not hungry but he can't seem to understand that he's effectively starving himself. Mum was admitted to A&E while I was in there and we still have no idea what's wrong with her. Who knows if either will make Christmas... :(

I'm a lucky boy. I was on the bus earlier, and put my phone down on the seat next to me as I put my earphones away and then forgot to pick it up when getting off. Called Arriva and told them what I'd done, and the driver had handed it in as soon as he got back to the bus station to someone going back to the depot.

I'd put a lock screen on it so nobody could get into my phone. They arranged to give it to a driver who was coming back up to where I lived and told me what time the bus would be there. The driver had it in the cab with him. I was so thankful and offered him money or something for bringing it back. He waved the offer away and said don't worry about it. I tried again and he again refused. Great customer service from them.

Great weather here, been able to get a bush in the garden cut down, now waiting for winter to hit so I can get rid of 2 more bushes. If I get rid of one of them, I have room to get both wheelie bins down there instead of only the one that I can now.

I usually put it in the bathroom but the weather kept flattering to deceive, sun would peek out for a millisecond or so and then go in.

Even now getting occasional lifted fog rolling past. Satellite pictres do show it dissipating near the coast so I'll leave it out a little longer. Nothing too urgent so that's a relief.

I have friends with a child (well, late teens now) with severe Autism, and their good humour, patience, and love never fail to humble me - I really admire them (and you) for all you do, day in and day out, especially all the stuff others do not see.

Just had a clear out of the loft - it's amazing what carp/superfluous stuff you keep up there; going to charity shop (BHF), as they take small electronic goods.

Panasonic HD/DVD recorder
Panasonic DVD player
Matsui DVD player
2 x 19" monitors
Logitech 2.1 speaker system with sub-woofer
Sony radio alarm clock
19 LG LCD TV
Epson printer/scanner

And out of the back bedroom - and old wardrobe and chest of drawers.

I can only imagine how hard it is Osem but Osem #2 is one lucky boy to have such wonderful and lovely parents.

Is Osem Jnr still in love?

Hope you are feeling better Osem as I have not really had time to be on the CF lately as my Mum has been attending hospital quite a bit lately and my Father in Law is in hospital atm so it's been a really busy time for me lately.

That's quite a unique way to view it, and also gives quite an insight into how you think about things...

Cool.
Do you think I'm unique enough to be invited onto the Jonathan Ross show?

you could come with me as my part time psychiatrist and toes sucker.

Back from the eye clinic and it's good news for a change :) - No more deterioration with my eyes due to the diabetes. If I get a transplant soon they will remain stable now :) And he was even more surprised that I have not had any cataract development - which usually happens with the operation I had on my eyes.

Happy days :)

Thanks Nash. The hospital and social work needs to arrange care before their is any chance of him coming home I think they are hoping to arrange for carers to come in 4 times daily which will be a great help to my Mother in Law. I must admit it's been a really stressful couple of weeks with both sets of parents but we have a good family unit who all muck in, well apart from my sister but she is extremely busy at her work.

Excellent news dilli.
