Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Is the ambit sacm capable of handling the 10mb speeds?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Well I'm currently less than impressed with the upgrade and it appears to me (especially after reading other posts on here) that this whole upgrade was for the marketing departments purposes not the customer. Overall throughput on my 'upgraded' connection is no better (and possibly slightly worse) although the peak burst speed is higher this is not sustained. I have tested this against known entities/servers and know that the issue is not 'the sending server(s)'.
I've also found that my connection/STB is no longer stable and since the upgrade I've lost connectivity more times than I can count (pre-upgrade my connection was rock solid). For some reason the STB seems to lose the ability to handle TCP connections (ping/ICMP still work) and this connectivity loss is getting mighty annoying. NTL have also seriously short changed STB users with their 5Mbit or £50 SACM upgrade. Just my tuppence. |

Well I am ready to upgrade to the top tier I am in Rochdale area so I assume it is available here.
I have the Ambit USB SACM 200 which is good for the 10mb tier, so what time are they open :D |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
I agree with DVS, my connection cant get near 3meg [my original speed] at peak times, before the upgrade it was fine.

Right I am the 10mb service just updated from the website as above yet the speedtest on ntl:hell shows only 4.95mps ?? I am using the ambit usc SACM 200 silver.
This shows as able to handle the 10mb service so where is the rest of my service? |

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Out of curiosity, why aren't all ntl customers advised to use ethernet instead of usb... I couldn't get anywhere near half the speed of my 10mb connection with the usb cable, but now I've changed to ethernet I'm hitting near enough full speeds consistently (touch wood). Makes me angry, because now that I look back, I wasn't getting the full use of my 2mb connection either.
In Glasgow, Ambit 120. PS. Thanks Chris W for the advice BTW |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Maybe you have a router that is only 10 mbps on the wan side.If not could be you are using usb to connect. If not that maybe your network card is set to 10 mbps,if so put it on 100 mbps.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
I cannot use ethernet as my only post is used to network another pc.
|
Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
Can you not install a second network card or look to network your PCs with a router etc?
|
Re: *ALL* ntl 10Mb Discussion (Part 3)
I dont have a router, and I just tried to shut down both pc's and use a crossover and a normal ethernet lead in the modem to my pc and it would NOT get a ip addy no matter how I tried.
I find Ethernet is over complex and just annoys me with the problems hence why I like usb its simple and once done I dont get annoying 169 addys... How do I network it into my pc? I have both types of ethernet lead. |
