Does anyone know why the Olympic stadium will be reduced to 25,000 after the games?

Anyways, Olympic stadiums are bad for football, so the bubble-blowers should be happy about this.

The only time they would fill it for athletics, would be when the Olympics was in town, bit pointless and expensive having 50000 odd empty seats.

The obvious solution for me would be for us to have the Olympic stadium, do away with the track and give them our ground for athletics, I wonder if that was discussed?

I would have thought it would be better/cheaper leaving them empty than removing them at major cost. Plus would look daft having this massive concrete structure with no seats in.

Presumably large parts of the concrete structure will be removed with the seats ;)

...but if they would only get 25,000 people attending in an 80,000 seat stadium, it's going to look and sound like a ghost town...Wembley used to suffer with that...no atmosphere at England friendlies

I'm sure the designers have thought of that as they know it is going to happen so would have designed the stadium so that the seats can be removed without it looking stupid. They will never fill the stadium again because of Wembly so there's no point of it being that big.

I heard on the radio today that it was initially hoped to get West Ham involved, this would mean removing the running track and reducing the capacity to 60,000. It seems that West Ham have now gone cool on the idea so the reduction to 25,000 is aimed at the likes of Leyton Orient.

Man Utd are still the most profitable club in football though.

I came across this on The Guardian website and found it quite amusing, especially the teeth quips....

THE DIARY OF STEVE McCLAREN, AGED 55⅔
6.10am: Wake up. Start pulling my head out of my backside.

9.11am: Ah, that's better. Notice morning glory is present and correct as always. 'Ave it.

9.12am: Gaze longingly at placard on wall with stirring oratory of my hero: "Do I Not Like That". He was years ahead of his time that man. A leader.

9.13am: Brush teeth with Dulux Solid Emulsion. That smile is different class.

9.21am: Try something new for breakfast: toast and Dulux. Cereal and fruit is great but need to have as many different breakfast options as possible. Important not to get stuck in that breakfast comfort zone.

10.34am: Bored. Brush teeth.

10.55am: Give Max a ring. Can't get through.

11am: Decide to do a jigsaw. Need to take myself out of that comfort zone. Got given a rogue box with two identical pieces in the middle. The box says there's only room for one of them but what do they know? I'm gonna fit both in. More of a challenge. Important not to get stuck in that jigsaw comfort zone.

12.07pm: Give Tel a ring. Can't get through. Must be at the tanning salon.

12.08pm: Bored. Brush teeth.

12.09pm: Bored. Brush teeth.

12.41pm: Decide to put some of the old vinyl on. They reckon it works best at 45rpm but what do they know? I'm going 33rpm. Sounds a bit odd but I don't care: how many Grammys has 45rpm won us, eh? Important not to get stuck in that vinyl comfort zone.

1.20pm: Brush teeth. Bored and getting a bit lonely. Could really use a friend. Might give Massimo a call.

You are, of course, assuming it will be finished by 2012..

Reminds me of something the sports reporter on the local breakfast show said. He said "And we'll be listening to the excuses McClaren gives later".
