Whatever way its done its not in the favour of the consumer generally Andrew as prices seem to rise and rise and rise......

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Sky got commercial agreements for it's sports channels with Talk Talk and VM ?

Nobody seems to mention that Talk Talk and Sky don't have wholesale access to BT Sport , funny that isn't it being that they both use the Openreach network for broadband. The only wholesale deal in place for BT Sport is with VM who of course don't use the Openreach network.

That's a harsh and unjust allegation, mate. Read the Telegraph article and their decision makes perfect sense. I put the blame for high sports prices at the door of the Premier League. They could sell all their matches to both Sky and BT but prefer to take higher payments for exclusive deals.

BT will simply try to outbid SKY on the next bidding round i fear and it will be the consumer who ends up paying for it all in the long run, it's a pity sky, vm and bt can't all just work together and create 3 great platforms with great choice.

I don't think that it will just affect BT, but ALL of Sky's competitors. It's good news for VM that they currently have a contract in place to shield them from this change for a time.

...talking of BT, rumours abound in the shareholder world that BT is to make a bid to take over ITV.

If this goes through, in theory at least, BT could take off some or all of the ITV portfolio from the Sky EPG. This would give them an extra bargaining tool with Sky Re: Sky Sports.

It is claimed that one of the reasons for the takeover bid will be to allow BT to get their hands on the lucrative ITV Freeview slots.

The BT/ITV tie-up was suggested by CCS Insight who publish a list of predictions that are reported by the FT and others. They said "by 2018" so that gives BT a bit of time!
Their other predictions are off-topic and include the EC mandating a a minimum broadband speed of 30 Mbps by 2020 and Google launching a mobile service in a leading European market by 2017.

You're reading too much into this, Richard. This is only about the relationship between BT and Sky. Additionally, Ofcom are monitoring the position to ensure fair play.
