AC Milan deserved to leave this tornament, how many more of them were going to escape cards after deliberatly running into Spurs players.

Flamini should have been shown a second red, for his charge on Bale.

I think you may be getting ahead of yourself just a bit there. :)

Cracking result though :tu:

Erm, no, the exact opposite is true. We had just forced a corner and got an equaliser out of it, we were on our way through to the next round. RVP was sent off because he shot at goal when he was one on one with the keeper - it was offside of course but we were creating. That period was the only time we really looked like we could actually get a result.

You scored an flukey own goal and had a shot off target, yeah you were all over them alright. It was only a matter of time before you were once again camped in your own half after you scored whether you had 10 or 11 men on the pitch.

It's funny. Had Bendtner managed to score from his chance (by the way, just imagine RVP on the end of that instead) then Wenger would be hailed a hero and tactical genius, as Mourinho was last season. Arsenal were a miss control away from the next round and avoiding the wrath of hypocritical media and fans.

Yes, and if Messi had scored the four or five chances he had, if Adriano and Afellay scored the chances they had and so on, then Wenger would have been shown up and Barcelona would have walked into the next round by a huge margin.

I think Wenger got the tactics at the begining right by the way, Barcelona were just too good though.

Who said anything about being all over them? Yeah, we certainly would have been camped in our own half again which is exactly why losing a man had an effect. Defending and holding up play with 11 is better than defending and holding up play with 10, that's not debatable.
Yes, and so by the same logic, Barca's first goal could be considered pretty "fluky" too.

Obviously Barcelona thoroughly deserved to win - they scored more and also had poor refereeing decisions against them. I have no qualms with the overall result. My point is that it doesn't mean playing with 11 couldn't have made any difference and the domination of play by a team doesn't mean they should or will get a result. Which is exactly as i said a year ago with Inter when the stats and dominance by Barca was almost identical to last night. The idea of "They dominated play, thus definitely were going to win whatever happened" is fallacy. With that attitude, we might as well have just forfeited (cue inevitable jokes).

Arsenals performance was exceptional, historic in fact.

Record breakers :p:

based on how we have done in the league I would say we would get battered ever worse.

We may be top of the league but we have only really played well in about 1 game and scrapped the rest when we played badly or just played badly and drawn or lost

Some might say that is the hallmark of a good team.

I'm not so sure. They have attacking flair in abundance and very uncharacteristically for Spurs, saw last night out defensively.

I'm willing to bet that even if Barca do play and beat United that the Reds will have had a few attempts on goal, on or off target.:p:

Hang on, I thought it was always supposed to be United who get "Old Trafford overtime"?

Any advice into travelling to and from the Stadium to Manchester Piccadilly would be welcome. Full time will be roughly around 7:10 to 7:15 which would give me 1 hour and 15 minutes to make my train departing at 20:30 back to London. I am aware of the Metro line but am unaware of the time it will take to get on and back to the station.

I hope that you had a good time, I know that I did ;) :D

What a daft comment. I guess you missed a player receiving treatment for 6 minutes then. 8 minues, 30 seconds of injury time was played and if anything that was too little. Especially considering the fisticuffs after the two Scholes "tackles".

Speaking of which, if it was ANY other player (including other Man United players), they would have been sent off. But as usual the pathetic cult of personality which surrounds Scholes takes precedence.

Wow, the sense-of-humour bypass always manifests itself when United win hey?

True. If that had been a utd player down, it would have been Fergie time.

We deserved to win. We had the better chances are we were sound defensively.

Your comment would be funny if it was even vaguely close to being pertinent and the need for long injury time wasn't patently obvious and undeniable. There's no humour in that.

No it wouldn't, it would have been a clearly required amount of injury time.

The whole point of the "Fergie time" joke is long injury time appearing from nowhere. Not a long break from a serious injury 5 minutes before full time.
