Wikipedia is reporting that Discovery are set to rebrand some Discovery own channels next year:

Really will become Discovery Really
TLC HD & +1 will become Discovery TLC HD & +1
Quest HD & +1 will become Discovery Quest HD & +1
Quest Red SD & +1 will become Discovery Quest Red SD & +1
Food Network SD & +1 will become Discovery Food Network SD & +1
HGTV SD & +1 will become Discovery HGTV SD & +1[COLOR="Silver"]

*Shudder*

I'd bet they are temporary transitionary names for a few of them as they either sound stupid or are too long. For example, I can see one becoming Discovery Red and another Discovery Food eventually.

I'd imagine they won't use the name in text on EPGs as Discovery on its own takes most of the allowed characters for the channel names.

Thanks for the heads-up Media Boy.

Didn't all the Discovery owned channels used to have the "Discovery" prefix back in the early days when Sky Digital first launched and as late as the mid 2010s? I'm sure I recall referring to the Documentaries section within the EPG as just the "Discovery Channels" generically.

Quest and Quest Red are relatively new brands created for Free To Air (as far as I know), many of the other channels were bought from other broadcasters, e.g. BBC or when they bought other TV companies e.g. Scripps. It's not as if they actively removed their name from channels.

-Home and Really* was given to Discovery when the BBC wanted to own UKTV outright.
-Discovery took over Scripps to own Food Network*.
-You are right about Quest brand being created for Freeview slots.

Discovery only rebrand Home to HGTV on January 21st 2020.

Have you seen they did not say anything about DMAX being rebrand called Discovery MAX.

*Discovery was also given Good Food (Shows now on Food Network).
**Discovery has axe Travel Channel (Shows now on Discovery Channel and DMAX) since takeover.

Thats correct, but I was referring to a bunch of channels from the digital tv launch era (1998-2002) that were owned by and used the prefix "Discovery...." whilst trying to highlight it is not the first time Discovery had done this. Some have lasted and dropped the prefix, whilst some have morphed into different entities...
Discovery Channel
Discovery Travel and Adventure
Discovery Civilizations
Discovery Sci-Trek
Discovery Animal Planet
Discovery Investigation
Discovery Kids
and their +1 variants.
May have been more, but my mind escapes me.

I'm well aware of those, I remember them. Those I mentioned have different circumstances. The majority, for example, are Free-To-Air and the the reason FTA channels often don't share their parent's branding is their parent wants to keep it for their premium (Pay) products. The old legacy channels were from a time when Discovery didn't do FTA and positioned themselves as a provider of premium TV. FTA is relatively a new market for them.

I believe it's something along the lines of what TLC, ITV Be, Quest Red, Lifetime and E! show. And you can blame the same people who came up with Dave and Yesterday. It used to be a UKTV channel.

And I haven't told you anything you didn't already know, I think, having just read it back.

What does Vincerooney tell me? you like Vince Mcmahon and Wayne Rooney?
I'm just joking with you mate i agree some channel names are plain daft but Really just symbolises reality.
Could be worse they could have gone with the original planned name reallyrealtv.

Sky have confirmed that Sky Cinema Disney (ch. 407) is renaming to Five Star Movies on New Year's Eve, before shutting permanently on 6th January 2021. My prediction had come true. 🤣

If ever had a misleading name it's TLC - in case you didn't know the learning channel .

hahha you'd be right about vince but nope that b&stard wayne stole my surname.

Did we ever find out if the horizon software is coming to tivo v6? This place basically said no but the official forum posters seem to think yes. The new tivo boxes don't seem to be the main replacement for the v6 either?

I think Ben or Spiderplant mentioned the Horizon software will be rolled out on the V6 eventually.
At our office we've not heard of any new hardward but we rarely deal with hardware/software side of things anyway it's more content, broadcasters/networks we deal with.
