Re: [Merged] - Football talk
First off all the league is a lot faster now and also its cheating to compare arsenal money to forrests. Arsenal have not spent a lot compared to the other teams. Forrest didnt spend a lot but nor did the other teams. Arsenal and spent nothing compared to chelsea, united, and a lot of the other top teams
We have sold a lot of players as well, in fact if you take away the money wenger was earned from selling then we have only spent 4 million |

£18 million for Reyes is looking pretty good too. Watching Arsenal on sunday reminded me of the Man Utd team a few years ago, the we don't care how many goals you score because we'll score more. Remember the match against spurs in 2001? |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
13 million on wiltord, and that remains our highest ever transere fee also henry cost 9 mill

Fair play to them they have raised the standard of the premiership last season and it's up to us and Chelsea to match them. They still have a dodgy keeper though :) |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
I would like to remake my point of our spending in relation to other teams. Forrest rivals didnt spend much money either. Diffrent times you can not compare the finances from then to now because the game has changed so much
One Question, If the only team to go though a league season without losing before arsenal were preston north end then what about forest? How did they go so long without losing but didnt do it in a league season? |

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
i am sure it was 9 million :O its hard to get accurate information though
Either way my point is we have hardly spent anything in relation to the other big teams in the premership. Wenger is a wizz in the market |

A few of Fergies great buys... Denis Irwin (FB) Oldham Athletic (£625,0 00) Peter Schmeichel (G) Brondby (£600,0 00) Eric Cantona (F) Leeds United (£1.2 Million) Roy Keane (M) Nottingham Forest (£3.75 Million) admitidly, this was a record fee at the time! Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (F) Molde (£1.5 Million) Mickael Silvestre (D) Internazionale (£4M) Tim Howard (G) NJ/NY Metro Stars (£2.3 million) |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Viv Anderson was saying at the weekend that in the end they were glad when they finally lost.
not sure if the arsenal players feel the same though. At the moment they still look like taking this run alot further.. even when they make mistakes they still score more than the other team and just don't seem to have an off day. |

Ferguson's good buys in recent years (er, Shergar Van Nostrilbooy and possibly Howard, who isn't the best keeper in the Premiership) have been outweighed in quantity and price by his bad ones (Forlan, Veron, Bellion, Silvestre, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Fortune). And yes, I know Wenger had the one bad year where he bought/borrowed four flops and Sol Campbell, but we still won the league that season. Damien - Forest went unbeaten through half one season (76/77) and half the next season (77/78) - seasons were more games, I think (42 instead of 38). Arsenal have actually had their run over three seasons so far. Arsenal tend not to make transfer fees public, they usually pay a lot less than the headline figure, which usually comes out of the selling club and fails to mention the small print ('2 million quid if we win the Champions League' etc). Wiltord was 11 million I think, and Henry 10.5m. Reyes might be 16.5m if we win everything, mind you if we do win everything we can pay the extra out of the loose change, and you have to say we're more likely to do so with him in the team than not having bought him. Dodgy keeper? Lehmann got an award for keeping the most clean sheets in the Premiership last season at the weekend. Not that dodgy at all then. |
