I think that's very likely to be the explanation. It's not worth automating something that happens so rarely.

You are a case, Vince!

I used to enjoy new channels starting - I still remember Disney launching - it was pretty well a family event!

However, there are so many channels on now that unless it is a really big thing (like Sky Atlantic would be!) I scarcely notice them starting up any more.

It's all about content for me. Don't care about all the reality stuff, there's enough of that to keep my wife content for years. But I really do want a full choice of the good quality dramas and films and I don't like finding out I can't get them on Virgin Media!

I've given up waiting for Sky Atlantic now, I've bought the Game of Thrones box sets and I'm getting Boardwalk Empire next (Christmas/birthday pressies!).

A more expensive way of viewing them, but frankly it's better than being asked what you want for a present and coming up with something you don't really want because you can't think of anything at the time. I'm going to be more organised in future!

Hopefully, we will be getting Amazon Prime and other video streaming choices on TIVO before much longer - all the time wearing away at the content we cannot yet receive over the TIVO.

Sky will have to come around in favour of customers sooner or later, but it is taking faaaaaaar too long and I don't want to die first!

Now that I know your definition of over-rated, I am able judge your posts on such matters accordingly.

On my last post, I tried to be polite by acknowledging the points you, I did it to try and stop this from carrying on. I will take that back now, seeings as you chosen to be so rude. I also thank you for given me the opportunity to bite. Cheers.

Let me explain what "over-rated" means, just to repay your kindness.

I did not like (it did not appeal to me, if you prefer) Game Of Thrones. If I were to review it (or give critical analysis) I would give it 5 out of 10 stars. I would only give it 5 stars because when I watched it again after reading the first book, it made yearn to go back to the original source, even a half decent adaptation should be able to do this. Critical analysis on IMDB gives it 9.5 stars. This therefore makes the show over-rated in my eyes.

Banshee was acceptable enough. I would give it 6.5 out of 10. It was hardly an original plot, there were no really challenging acting scenes in it, but it was well paced and well directed, pretty well scripted and even pulled out a few surprises during the first series. The ending was weal. It was also predictable from the moment we found out who Rabbit was. A weak ending designed purely to prolong a story line is very poor indeed. Critical analysis on IMDB gives the show 8.3 stars, even though I found the show acceptable, the show is still over-rated in my eyes.

Seinfeld is acceptable enough but I would only give it 7.5 out of 10. Critical analysis gives it 9/10. Over-rated in my eyes.

The Tunnel, awful remake in my eyes. Only lasted 3/4 shows via on demand. 4 out 10 for me, IMDB 7.7 out of 10.

I also disliked the woeful "will work for money" attempt at new Alan Partridge and the boring Mr Sloane. I don't need to watch Penny Dreadful to know that I will dislike it immensely, due to its ridiculous plot. The less said about star trek the better, too. I could list more shows, but I am writing more than enough currently.

Am I making my point clear yet?

Given the money spent on the channel, all its hype, and the numerous shows I have tried and thought were over-rated, I am still happy to call SA over-rated.

BTW, should everyone who dislikes a show and offers poor critical analysis, just say that they disliked it, but still give it high marks just because others rate it higher?

Hopefully this link to other people who are also confused between the meaning of over-rated and does not appeal to them will work for you to see. Perhaps you would care to point out their confusion to them too, and also tell them they must acknowledge GOT is good because others rate it higher than them?!?

I welcome your response, but I am done with this.

Well, they are both right, really. Harry is talking about his personal opinion and passingbat is talking about an objective critical assessment.

Exactly. Through the discussion I have now learned how Harry rates a channel's content i.e., purely through a personal perspective. That is different to the way that I do it. So, my previously posted comment is surely quite correct:

Looks like well done VM in c....g up this SKY Sports day pass for some of us :(

I'd give them a call and ask to be compensated for this unsatisfactory service in some way for the inconvenience and disappointment- after all, it's not as if it was a film that will be shown and could be fully enjoyed in the future. This should also prompt them to investigate why this happened and take appropriate action against any VM employees found to be failing in their duties.

I also doubt that Sky would be happy that their efforts to increase Sky Sports subscriptions via VM are being undermined in this way.

This is also a matter for the Advertising Standards Authority and possibly Trading Standards.

Although I agree that this must have been annoying, and it shouldn't have happened, I think that asking for compensation for missing something that was a free sample is a little bit cheeky

I don't see it as cheeky, as I look at it in the same way as my online supetmarket offering a promotion that it was unable to deliver.

They had packs of salmon on offer if two were bought together, but were unable to supply them due to higher than anticipated demand. As a result they offered me two packs of another brand and charged me the same price of the offer, which I happily accepted. Instead of letting me down and risking annoyance because of their failures, they turned it round and I was delighted instead.

I also remember in the days of NTL when I called to complain that launching interactive services always crashed the box. I was told that I "couldn't complain because the service was free"!!! After explaining that the service was an integral part of the service that I was paying for, albeit not seperately charged for, she altered her attitude and dealt with the issue :D

Completely agree with this except for the extra amazon prime stuff etc. We pay enough unless you suggested free in certain packages ?

There are still many normal channels on sky I'd like to have before I say we have everything. (SA including!) but I think VM have given up on most of these!
