Second happy thought - I finish a Fixed Term Contract (two and a half years) at the end of this month, and I will take a month or two off whilst I decide what to do next, so looking forward to a relaxing summer (I have been working 60 hour weeks for the last eighteen months, which is why I didn't take up their offer of another year's FTC).

What an excellent result your son got Hugh, you must be so very proud of him.

Enjoy the summer months Hugh, you deserve some time off after working 60 hours for the last 18 months.

Glad to hear that your son has his 2.1. Being able to take up his job offer will be the 'icing on the cake' for him. :)

Well done Stuart - exams are always good to see the back of.

Great news for you too Hugh - we need more mathematicians so very well done to him.
Now you'll be having a well deserved rest, do we take it you'll be keeping an eye on us a bit more? ;)

As Hugh will no longer be sat at his desk for 60 hrs a week twiddling his thumbs we shall probably see a lot less of him over the next couple of months. :D

Sorry, a long way away Dilli. Den will be going through Westbury in Wiltshire and then down to the southern coastline railway. Of course if he kept going he'd end up passing through sunny Worthing.

Same line, the FGW service from Westbury goes through Southampton and ends at Brighton. That's about 14 miles to the east of us along the coastway line.

Did a bit more of my family tree this afternoon, and now gone back to 1798 with one set of ancestors. On another set, gone back to 1800, and found both were born in Ireland, before moving to London. I'm assuming they moved over from Ireland because of the potato famine.

Hugh 20-06-2015 22:09

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

The Irish Potato Famine was in 1845 (for six years), so they may have moved over for other reasons (work, etc...).

MalteseFalcon 21-06-2015 08:32

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Yeah, they were born in Ireland around 1835, and no record in London until the 1861 census. So a safe assumption they came over due to the famine.

Yip you are correct den. The Granddaughter of one of my friends/neighbour stays with them when it's her summer holidays and she comes up quite a few weeks after my wee one has broken up for his school holidays. They stay in Barnsley and I don't think she starts back school till the second week in September as she usually goes back home on or around the 6th of September.

It's supposed to be a better day over most of the UK. Hope you and your OH enjoy it Al.

Just put the filling mix for a batch of 6 steak-in-ale pies in my biggest saucepan onto the cooktop to slow cook for at least 3 hours. Gas is on the lowest setting and a diffuser ring as well so it'll tick over quietly. Smell is already beginning to permiate the house.

Wednesday to Saturday - 33C, 35C, 36C, 36C - factor 30, methinks, and some ice cold beers for hydration purposes....

Watch out for snakes. Might be a bit far for you but if you go to the Greek side the moonlight tavern in paphos is the best restaurant I've ever been to, not the greatest food but the atmosphere and owner make it special.

Just been making my speciality: traditional lamb Rogan Josh (no tomato!) for family dinner tomorrow. Doing it in the slow cooker overnight, it's going to be fantastic!

My Nephrologist sent me a letter regarding my blood work results for a consultation this week, turns out I'm iron deficient / anaemic again. Which is good news as it explains why I've been feeling the way I have been for a while (extreme fatigue, dizzy, lifeless etc). I was hoping for this result.

The bad news though is that I'm iron supplement intolerant, so risking a low dose of ferrous fumarate till hopefully sort out iron infusions at some point. But it's good for once to get a possible explanation and hopefully the right course of treatment now.

I have an iron infusion and hemaglobin injection once a month for my anaemia.

Still feeling tired and cold all the time though.

I'm glad they found out what's going on :tu:
