Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?

just reporting from LU3 (Luton) to say that all kinds of weird things happening over last 24 hours.

various bits and pieces of the internet not being contactable, or resolving to the wrong addresses on occasion (ive been trying www.autotrader.co.uk and mostly not able to contact at all, sometimes ending up at www.uk.com (my machine suffers no spyware/adware or anything of the likes) and less often occasionally hitting the proper autotrader main site page (although never able to access pages further within the site)

ebay not even reliably contactable.

broadband telephone support on 0871 2251111 , after making me suffer the indignity of being subjected to having an answering machine tell me that turning my computer off and back on might fix the problem, finally simply tells me that the line is engaged and to call them some other time.

nice, eh?

oh well. although im frustrated now, i guess to be fair, in general i must say id still take an ntl cable internet connection over adsl any day, on 10mbit, obviously providing the site im connecting to can feed me at a fast rate, ive never failed to consistently hit my 1200k/sec download cap, which stays constant, no ups and downs like i find tend to be a real trait with adsl. and thats having used ntl home broadband services at 5 different locations (although admittedly all in the luton region)

so my only gripe about todays problems is that if theyre not going to answer their phone lines to explain the problems to people, or even put an answering machine message on which explains theyre aware of the problems, couldnt they at least take the 10 seconds to put a message on their "service status" page explaining whats going on?

They did say there would be maintenance work , but specified that that would be between midnight and 6am this morning, so they could do better keeping customers informed I have to say.

oh, and by the way, how many people admit that when they noticed problems their first reaction was "crap, theyre obviously on to me and trying to clamp down on my leeching"

hah, i know that was my first reaction when i noticed news.giganews.com was uncontactable for me last night :P, yet still contactable for everyone else i talked to!

Do NTL engineers work over-time at this late of night?

Meh, I think we'll just need to see if the problem shall be fixed by tomorrow.

Are the engineers working on the problem or have they all gone to bed?

The only way I can get google to work is by going stright to the .co.uk site. Also I can only view that useing a proxy. I can't live without google.

Re: Is there a problem on NTL Internet access?

I've not noticed a problem with actual speed. I can stream things at full 100+kbps. However, DNS is *very* laggy. However, once I've resolved an IP it zips along.

Is it DNS problems for everyone else or have I got something else?!
