Re: PVR for NTL

Of course NTL want to roll (although roll suggests some kind of movement) out the VOD before a PVR. How much does a PVR make every time you record something? Zip. VOD is just another way to fill their pockets. NTL/C&W/Nynex have had plenty of money off me, it's about time they started giving me a service that they promised from the start. Something better than Sky.

Coming soon is just not good enough any more. I know that Sky are going to try and release HDTV in January next year, why, cos they tell everyone. Bit of comunication, nothing wrong with that. It's nice to know when things are going to happen, weather they do or not. At least it gives you a clue. Better than being kept in the dark and contantly being told 'coming soon'. Get a grip NTL. Must do better.

The last Sky HD E-Mail I got (yesterday) had nothing on it about a launch date. Same with their HD Website.

All it mentions is 2006 for a target. And the latest rumours I've been hearing takes it till about March or April time for it.

So really setting out a firm date there aren't they? :dozey:

Care to prove that.

With your record on Silly and incorrect statements you will understand if i take anything you say with a very very big pinch of salt.

But of course you will just come out with

a. A stupid statement that slags off ntl again.
b. Ignore anyone that replies to you and come out with a stupid statement again shortly.

Coming soon another stupid statement by you know who and its not NTL this time.

what i cannot fathom here is .

If you hate NTL that much why do you still use them ?

I believe NTL have a target of 2006 as well - it was mentioned in one of their many conference calls :)

Then what is this here

And this bit here

†œWe look forward to offering cable customers the combination of MPEG-4 PVR and high quality Video on Demand services in 2006,ââ‚ƚ¬Ã‚ said Shai Weiss, managing director of ntlââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s Consumer Products division. †œWe wanted to leverage both this new technology and Scientific-Atlantaââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s extensive PVR experience to enable us to deploy a first-of-its-kind MPEG-4 PVR platform for the UK cable customers.âââ€Å ¡Ã‚¬Ã‚

Or is it ok in your eyes for Sky to say 2006 for HD, But if NTL say it you ignore it anyway

Yeah, they worked hard to make sure that announcement appeared on the front page of every paper
Mr J Public doesn't read the TV trade press, listen to NTL conference calls or read this forum. He does see adverts for Sky+ at £49, and Argos selling Freeview PVRs for next to nothing. And from NTLs slick marketing machine? Guess what I'd be thinking of for Christmas.....

Sorry for having the right to complain against a far from perfect service that I pay top dollar for. Unlike those on the NTL payroll i don't get a free pair of rose tinted glasses.

Wow a 365 day window! Any chance of them giving us a smaller window? Some kind of hope? I bet they lose loads of customers due to this kind of poor communication.

Initially they were trying for getting them into the shops for Christmas. Then early next year. Now it seems to have dropped back to April or March time.
So it's a case of 'coming soon' from Sky then. But thats OK because they are not Ntl.

I'm not a huge fan of Ntl but to be honest if you can provide me with one post you've made where you aren't complaining about the sound quality or something else I'd be very surprised.

I would go back to NTL (from Sky+) if this is now fixed along with the following;
  • NTL go to a proper IR Signal for their remotes
  • Red button doesn't cause box to crash
  • at least 1 weeks EPG
  • PVR that works
  • Interactive TV as on Freeview/Sky (football 1st etc)
  • Be no more expensive than Sky

Can someone PM me when this is all in place please :)

And when Sky+ works its great. When it reboots, misses a program or 'forgets' a series link it isn't quite as useful.

You get the same interactive coverage on the BBC channels as Sky now. Funnily enough the main differences are on the Sky owned channels

I'm paying more now for a Sky package than I was with Ntl. Mainly as they make you take Sports and/or Movies to use the Sky+ features.

Done. The Langley Pace boxes and all Samsung boxes use RC5 instead of the TWTV protocol (a version of IrDA).

Quote:

Red button doesn't cause box to crash
Mostly done. It's certainly a lot more reliable than before. However, red button applications can cause any STB to crash - cable, satellite or DTT: that's the nature of computers. We can never guarantee 100% reliability.

Quote:

at least 1 weeks EPG
This is required for the coming PVR

See the rest of the thread! ;)

This mostly depends on Sky (with regards to Football First, certainly). They hold the rights, and so we must negotiate with them to obtain the right to distribute the programming via cable.

Quote:

Done - and have been for some time. In fact, cable is often cheaper than Sky as the Sky price increase is usually absorbed by ntl for a period of months each year.
