Once again, it turns out myself, alcohol and this site are not a good mix. Apologies for the post.

sky are losing money through advertisement by not giving the channel to VM. Theyve now brought out Now Tv so anyone that bothered about sky atlantic can get it and have virgin media too.

It must simply be someone high up in sky refusing to accept the same bid virgin media gave a few years ago.

"But sir it makes sense now. the extra advertisement will make us a lot more money"
"NO! NO!"
"But sir the value of the channel has decreased now with Now tv available for VM. Yes VM have kept to their same bid but we should just now accept it and move on"
"NO! NO!"
"sir you're being stubborn for no reason here we have to be realistic and agree to the terms the channel isnt worth as much anymore? We can all win if we accept their bid"
"NO! NO!"
"at least explain why you dont want to give virgin media sky atlantic?"
"NO! NO!" (executive puts head on table and punches table aggressively)

its this kind of illogical leadership from sky which could see them lose the majority of EPL football for the first time in almost 25 years. They need to review upper management and the decisions theyre making currently.

Sky would not be the first company to offer a loss leader though Vince. Therein lies the problem. It may not be worth as much since Now TV were given rights for it but if they are still making enough profit to justify keeping it from all the other providers, why not keep it away from the rest?

No, but you're a representative sample of one. If Sky thought there was any advantage in wholesaling it they'd have done so. It's only a year since they reported that it drove a quarter of new subscriptions. I'd be amazed if it didn't have a significant effect on churn.

It's not a case of attracting viewers away from VM to Sky because of Atlantic; it's about when new pay TV customers are choosing between Sky and VM; Atlantic is a high profile USP and as Andy says, attracts a lot of customers for Sky. It makes little sense to let VM have it, as both services are struggling to get pay TV customers .

It's just their usp. I think VM would be a much better overall package than Sky with SA.

The following channels will be added to Worldbox "early 2015" (i'm assuming that this means sometime between Jan and March):

Eurochannel- Mixed language (including some English programming). You can garner a taste of what's to come by having a playaround here http://www.eurochannel.com

BFM TV- A Gallic news channel based in France.

Ukraine Today- I assumed that this would broadcast in Ukranian, but Wiki says it broadcasts in English! This channel concerns itself with current affairs.

CTC- Russian independent channel. Putin is causing problems for this channel, resulting in it's share price dropping, so I guess that they are trying to broaden their appeal outside Russia. They have told VM that they hope to carry English subtitles on their service from the start (maybe this is the reason for the delayed launch and vague start date- they want to make sure that they're ready??)

Sadly I very much doubt it'll be a priority for VM to make an app. Since they wouldn't be able to make any money out of it? With Netflix they can brag about free months as part of the service.

Wwe won't make it for a uk TiVo and vm won't see any profit from making the app, so me thinks not!

A gaelic news channel based in france?? tremendous! a ukrainian channel broadcasting in english? Even more tremendous! why on earth they're broadcasting in english i dont know! but i'll end up watching these randomly whenever i'm suffering from insomnia.

Is worldbox a completely new service or is it an old service which has just recently come to VM?
