I think it's been like that for quite a while. I downgraded to 10Mb ages ago then got a call a couple of months after offering me the Premiere collection which worked out cheaper than what I was paying. There were a few issues setting up my Premiere collection as I only had the old small blue modem (250?) and they kept trying to put the 60Mb config file onto it which obviously wouldn't work and killed my internet. They had to send me a superhub out and once I recieved that I got it all set up at the right speed and my bills even say i'm on the premiere collection with broadband XL (up to 60Mb).

No because there is a broadband price rise early next year so its not free as we know it.

They would lose on marketing because some areas Ofcom results are deflated due to congestion and won't achieve that speed. I can't see them shooting themselves in the foot like that as they actually care about how they are allowed to market their product.

Then I suppose they will set it higher than that..

170000000 bps or something...

... and then, as if by magic, the announcement of a 6.7% price increase
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24911042

Anyone notice a pattern here .

So not even 12 months since the last major hike and they are putting prices up again by significantly more than inflation.

So a ~20-80% increase in speeds and you complain about a 6% price increase?

Get real.

It's getting to the point where you need SSDs and to shave a few seconds or a couple of minutes off a download is no longer a selling point in my opinion.

Stick with the tiers they have now but get rid of traffic management would be a much better option all round.

Nah,

With next gen game downloads at 30, 40, 50GB+ per game,

I'll happily take faster speeds.

Why would anyone want to wait 'minutes' for downloads?

Under 30 seconds should be a target for also anything to download,

1-10Gb speeds should help with that!! (Of course years away).

But if people like you had their own way, we would be stuck on 56k or 128k :/

The main question is,

Will my VMNG300 be able to handle 152Mb ?

Virgin does states free upgrade to 152Mb from 120Mb with no addition cost is a lie.....I can see many had complaint it should be free (remember double speed for no extra charge and they put up two rises within 12 months)

So, virgin media is a biggest lies company with price rises going up again in February 2014 (that a third rises within 18 months)

The price rises would happen with or without the speed increases, therefore the speed increases are for 'no additional cost' / 'free'

In regards to the number of prices changes, no price per service will have risen twice between in the 12 month period as far as I'm aware

Hmmm ... I seem to believe my energy bills have risen each year, so has my water, petrol, oil etc etc. Virgin are no different.

Seems to me that it was not so long ago people were praising them for BT Sports, extra channels and now Netflix

Theoretically I can handle 200meg (EuroDOCSIS 3.0 max out at 50 and it can handle 4 of them), though I suspect 152 might be unachievable if your area has even a bit of congestion. I seem to recall the modem it's built around being rated for 160 meg, but that may be a bad memory.

the difference is that VM love to be punctual about their price increases and make sure that they happen in February, but they are definitely going to take the rest of next, and probably into 2015 for the upgrades. We all know what it has been like with the speed doubling, loads of areas were back months and months

To be honest, it would be stupid to do upgrades all in one go, even if there weren't capacity reasons to space it out
