(just kidding)

France 24 french is only available from Eutelsat Hotbird at 13E or Astra 1KR at 19E, so Sky viewers won't have it.

Dunno, MB! But I so hope to see Fox News; another comedy channel hahaha! But on a more serious note, I would like to see Russia Today on VM, then we have all the Freeview news channels.

It will be any of the following:

A) Free Channel number - with France 24 English moving down one at an later date.
B) Fox News or CCTV News

But it will not be RT as Virgin as not put room for RT HD to be added as well.

In bed so can only go by the sky app on my phone, but it looks like we do get it

Edit: free tip, don't post when tired! Assumed it was normal France 24 and not the French language version. The excitement here and tired mind = mistakes :dunce:

The point of my post; a friendly jibe at our Sky friends, who actually have way more exclusive channels than we do.

This is what happens when a popular programme is only available on a restricted/subscription access channel. No strong opinion on this, just stating what happens.

Thousands pirate Game of Thrones series three opener

The opening episode of the third series of Games of Thrones was the most pirated ever, according to TorrentFreak.

Pirating has never been for us as we like to do things legally even though it can cost us.

Agreed, but this shows what is wrong with licensing policy in the UK and the rights to exclusivity – may be fine for first show but should not restrict content provider to allow alternative routes to market e.g. Internet subscription services a month after first viewing not a year+ afterwards! This would fit well with Tivo maybe and other content based delivery solutions

Perhaps BT and VM should join up to force a review of exclusivity periods Sky have and any other party with first view exclusive rights on content for that matter. No issue on them paying to get first view rights but the issue I see in the market is the right to review through other sources within a reasonable time period.

I guess this requirement is the equivalent of films at cinemas as first view and then the subsequent availability of the film on DVD or on-demand/subscription purchase.

I agree with you, PC. Whilst I do not think any content provider should be permitted to do a deal to provide exclusive content to their own channel unless they make that channel available to other platforms in the conventional way (wholesale price), I could live with a situation where this could apply for the first year only. Two years might be just bearable.

However, to continue it beyond that is just plain unreasonable and it means that a sizeable section of the population is denied the opportunity of seeing certain programmes.

My hope is that BT will break down this practice. If it buys exclusive content for its new entertainment channels (which I anticipate will be coming soon), it should be able to persuade Sky to stop this irritating practice. I don't think Sky would want to be in a position where BT had content that they had no access to themselves.

.

You're preaching to the choir, and at the same time, banging your head against [the studio's] brick wall. They see more money in exclusive deals and that's all they care about; not getting the creator's work to a wider audience at a fair and reasonable profit margin.

I don't obtain pirated shows, but I do wonder if it's the people that do that will eventually bring the studios to their senses. After all, it was pirating that woke the music industry up and forced them into providing reasonably priced, legal streaming music services.

If HBO has any sense they'll do their own channel when the SA deal runs out, they already do Sweden/Norway I think. Can't imagine Sky are paying them more than they could make from subscriptions from any TV providers customers.

last night prime example of how TiVo guide failed. Both itv and bbc put on special programmes about the philpotts fire instead of scheduled programming
