Samsung's built-in software already does everything you describe, and does enough for me so I've not tried anything else.

Oh, and apparently units of the blue model are trickling into and around the UK already. Carphone have 250 units in their warehouse to be distributed, and a number of pre-ordered units have been shipping.

Looks like Samsung are "drip-feeding" some key markets.

I saw the Blue in an O2 store yesterday, really didn't like it at all. Glad I went for the white.

Are official cases and screen protectors widely available?

Talking of screens - is it Gorilla glass? Is the handset waterproof/splash proof at all?

I think the official mesh covers are in a lot of stores. I know Tesco has them in store.

The other official covers are mainly online just now I think.

Its Gorilla Glass 2, even stronger than the previous glass. Not splash or water proof.

Stephan, how's it like to hold/handle. Compared to the SG2? I have not yet handled one in a shop - just wondering if it's too big.

It feels much better in the hand than the S2 simply due to the curved 'pebble' shape.

Also even though the handset screen is 4.8" and the S2 was 4.2" the phone isn't actually much bigger due to the bezzle around the screen being so thin.

Here is a photo of my S3 next to my S2. Sorry for poor quality, taken using my iPad 2.

No it's not. A lot of places have said it's weaker, but beside the point, Gorilla Glass 2's main selling point is being thinner at equivalent strength.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3

ok so thinner but just as strong.

New Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is as tough and scratch resistant as ever to withstand the unexpected abuses of everyday life. But now it's thinner, enabling slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity. Look for it on the world's coolest smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
20% thinner.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3

To be honest the tablet is pretty lame, particularly next to the Galaxy S III. Worse screen quality, much slower, much much laggier (particularly with stock launcher) and pretty much inferior in every way other than size. Also only runs Honeycomb. Only thing that isn't worse is 5Ghz wireless receive strength, that on the GS3 is pitiful. But the GS3 often ends up faster thanks to HT mode which the tab doesn't have.
