Absolutely. The system works precisely because it's not open to tinkering for perceived short-term benefit. Charles has to become king, otherwise the question of succession simply becomes a very grand and expensive version of Big Brother with the royals as the housemates.

I remember seeing programme about the queen and was mentioned in that, that the queen has made her position very clear to Charles that she will never step aside and that the only way he will become king is when she dies.
I think Charles is a bit of a dinosaur. When he becomes king, whenever that may be, I think there will be a certain apathy towards his coronation. |
