Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
just an update really... further testing is ongoing as it's proving a tricky one to pin down.
some sync issues can indeed just be the channel itself having problems and this is sometimes mixed up in the ongoing general issue we are investigating. ITV1 HD shouldn't really be part of the issue as it's not broadcasting in 5.1 sound just yet. As the above poster points out, that was a ITV issue. I'll update as soon as I get more info. :) |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Thanks for the update. It's good to know this is being investigated. I noticed the sync problem for the first time last night but I've been having issues with pixelation on BBC HD for quite a while now.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi all - this the latest posted on Virgin Help and Support Forum -
We are continuing to investigate the intermittent issues with Audio/Video synchronisation. We currently have the following 2 Problem tickets for the Audio/Video synchronisation issues. 1358349 - Sound Synchronisation with Dolby 5.1 surround sound systems (when HDMI and Optical cables are used) on SD and HD channels. 1399472 - Sound Synchronisation (intermittent) with HD Channels where there is a simple setup of STB and TV connected by HDMI. If you have a separate surround sound system (amp) you should connect the STB directly to the TV with the HDMI cable to see if they are still experiencing the issue. The issue is intermittent and there are no further workarounds at this time. If customers would like to help by providing specific examples we can pass them onto our engineering team to assist with their investigations. We require the following information: Channel Programme Intermittent or continuous throughout the programme What setup i.e. STB connected via HDMI to TV or connected via separate surround sound system? Box Type Can I suggest that if members of this forum are experiencing these problems that they join the virgin forum to post their details. Whist it is encouraging that there are two tickets open this, it does not seem they are making much headway with the problem, which has been around for some time. mdancer |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I assume as I have had no emails from Virgin support and this post has slipped off the front page that there is no progress on the tickets?
Just for the record The Gadget Show on 5HD was badly out of synch last night, even my wife commented on it! mdancer |

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Re the pixellation and sound dropping out. I have recently had problems with this and with my V+ box not recording the last few minutes of programmes despite the setting being put at +10 at end. I spent a frustrating 30 mins speaking to someone in India who asked me to do everything that I'd already done (Re-boot, check the settings, ventilation etc) and who then spent another 10 mins spaking to his supervisor - thank God its a free call! - but finally agreed to send an engineer.
When the engineer arrived he knew what the problem was straight away - the hard drive. He explained that the Samsung boxes have been made in Eastern Europe and Asia and there had been loads of problems with the ones made in Eastern Europe. He also explained that the reason it was happening whilst watching real time telly was because all of it has to go through the Hard Drive so that you can pause, rewind etc. (moment of realisation for me!!):dozey: It was replaced a week ago and although the pixellation problem hasn't gone completely, I've only noticed it once since rather than virtually every programme. So, if you are having these probs, might be worth a call? |

This thread is about sound issues on HD channels. mainly with 5.1 sound though ;) ---------- Post added at 13:26 ---------- Previous post was at 13:26 ---------- Fault ticket is still "work in progress", no further updates. |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hello all - back again. Well the sound out of sync issue did seem to be resolved, although I have not seen the outcome of the "ticket" opened by Virgin to look into the problem.
However, watching True Blood on FXhd the sound was just behind enough to be annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Mdancer |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just seeing this thread now. I noticed a similar problem a few nights ago on Comedy Central HD - sound was very out of synch. SD Comedy Central was fine. It was noticeable through at least two programmes as I kept checking back to see if it had corrected. It was completely unwatchable.

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
I know Comedy Central HD has had it's own problems a few times. I've not personally experienced any synch issues for months now.
I'll check the fault ticket that was investigating the issue tomorrow if I can. :) |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Hi all - 5HD was badly out of sync yesterday afternoon for the kids film, had to turn back to 105!

Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
Just thought id add my $0.02. This has been bugging me for a while, but with the f1 on sky (and hopefully this includes virgin sports package) next year I could be tempted to go HD - if this can be fixed.
Current setup: VM+ box (Area reference 12 - Solihull) Sony Bravia KDL-40V5810 TV Sony BDVE370 Amplifier & Surround Sound VM and other equipment all HDMI into TV Optical cable out from TV to Amp Very bad delay on the picture on all basic Virgin HD channels that I have, will do more specific testing when home next. Have already tried without amp so sound is via TV speakers and delay still an issue. Trying to put in a help request on virginmedia.com, but its very slow...... |
Re: Sound out of synch on BBC HD
The synch issue is getting silly now. I've had it for ages, as have others (see the VM community forum) but nothing appears to be happening. Having to watch the SD versions of HD channels is unnacceptable really. I don't use an AV receiver, just HDMI straight to the TV.
