GB gets to hold a vote in the house of commons to remain in power.
To win that vote, the LDs and Labour need to back him to outvote the tories.
If he doesn't win the vote, then (if memory serves) DC can call a vote and if he doesn't win, new election for all.

If GB wins, then Labour would have given concessions to the LDs in return for their votes.
It becomes very hard to get difficult bills through the house because the Tories have so many more MPs so could block anything which they deemed bad for the country if they got a few Labour/LD backbenchers to vote against it as well.

Basically, if a single party has a strong majority, any reasonable bill they bring to the commons will be voted through, it's only bills which cause a huge back bench revolt and are not approved by the opposition which won't get through.

If you look at countries with PR, they tend to get hung parliments due to all the smaller parties having MPs. Israel is a prime example, and the lack of a strong government has damaged the peace process on numerous occasions as so many concessions are needed to get even the basic things done.

Interesting comparison on the 2005 figures on the beeb though.... but as you say was pretty much a no brainer as to who would have won that seat.

Mmm, interesting, 8.5% swing to the Blues in a strong Labour seat and they need 7.9% to get 326 seats.

If it carries on. There was a boundary change as well so I not sure you can compare the swings directly. Does seem to hold up the Lib Dem vote from the exit polls though.

What is wrong with them?

15 hours they have had, plus the option of a postal or proxy vote

Not like they did not know it was coming :dunce:

They explained that they had taken the boundary changes into account with the comparisons.

Exit Poll has been adjusted. Two less seats for the Tories and Two Extra for the Liberal Democrats.

Whats the deal with people being turned away and not being able to vote with Police being called out?

Seems like a surge of people wanting to vote in the final hours. Very odd.

Yeah but that would require breakdowns of votes within the areas of the consistency which I believe they don't have a clear idea of. We need to wait for a lot more seats.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

My problem was that the incumbent MP for this area has consistently been receptive to local issues & was the only candidate to take the trouble to come round & knock on my door & ask what my thoughts were, prior to the election.

I decided she would get my vote, despite representing the Labour party, because she has arguably worked hard for her constituents since election in 1997 & I wanted to try & ensure she would still be in Parliament, even if her party were no longer in the majority.

People demanding to vote in Islington South, Police called.

Sit in at Hackney with people who are told they cannot vote.

Sunderland West goes to Labour. 11.6% Swing to Tory. Looks like they may well be on course for a majority.
