IF you have a Visa card whether credit or debit, you're in luck because Visa's own policy is to extend this protection to debit cards and to credit cards where the spend was under £100. But this is one of the benefits of being a Visa customer, it is not a legal right. All the details are here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/sho...your-purchases |
Re: roomsnet.com warning
Quick update - still no refund, but my credit card issuer have agreed to consider a charge-back, I've sent them copies of my documents, including an e-mail from Roomsnet in which they acknowledge and apologise for the non-payment. I've also contacted Tradings Standards/Consumer Protection at Westminster Council, where Roomsnet have their registered office, and at my local Council. I've e-mailed Watchdog and several websites which are still carrying Roomsnet's banner adverts, one of which has responded by saying that they have looked at various forums, have noted the comments made about Rooomsnet.com and, as a result, suspended their ad until further inquiries have been completed.

Re: roomsnet.com warning
There is hope for everyone out there. I booked two rooms by two separate booking with roomsnet for Majorca arriving in October. I cancelled the bookings in September when I heard the problems people were having. Within 10 days I received a refund for the most expensive room. When I contacted them for the other refund they told me that the room was still booked and confirmed with the hotel. I contacted the hotel every day and told the same each time there was no room booked. I kept onto roomsnet and they would email me and phone me saying the same thing the room is booked. Then two days before I was due to travel I received a fax from the hotel confirming the room had been booked and paid for. When I arrived there last week (expecting them to tell me there was no room) I had no trouble in checking in. I have been one of lucky ones, however it did cost me extra £60.00 on top of the refund received to re-book the other room with another company and the cost of daily telephone calls to hotel.

Re: roomsnet.com warning
Yippee !!. After many e-mails (must say nearly all answered straight back) i have today recieved a refund into my debit account of the amount paid originally to Roomsnet. Its only taken 5 weeks and about 8 e-mails. Now its trying to recover extra cost paid to stay in same Hotel. Slightly more optomistic now as they say reciept sent to Accounts department for payment.
So those that are still waiting just keep harrassing them and you may be lucky. They say this was a one-off and wont occur again. I hope so as i have another booking outstanding for Nov and they say they guarentee my Hotel is booked and paid for. BUT i will still check with Hotel before travelling. Good luck all those still waiting !!. |
Re: roomsnet.com warning
I to have got my money back, and I would like to thank the members who helped me out with phone numbers in what seems a long time ago. Watchdog have also emailed saying they are not taking there enquires any further as roomsnet.com are now refunding our money. I have suggested to them that it would be a good idea if they are to continue trading to join ABTA, it would only cost a million!!! Once again thanks a lot to you members who helped me out, and to the person who condemned this thread I hope you don't ever need someone to assist you.

Re: roomsnet.com warning
Good news here as well. I got my money back too, and got a very reassuring phone call from roomsnet.com. No matter how much the phone call is reassuring, I'll wait for couple more months to see if they are good enough to continue making bookings :-D
No matter what, the fact remains their rates are cheaper than anyone else. That's why I booked with roomsnet at first place. Let's wait and see and I'll continue to watch them in the future. |
Re: roomsnet.com warning
I'm a receptionist of hotel in Catalonia, Spain, and last summer i had to stand some complaints and rows from some guests who arrived in the hotel and were adviced that their reservation was cancelled by their travel agency (this summer it was roomsnet). Sometimes we had available rooms for them if they wanted to stay with us, paying directly to the hotel. Anyway i'd like to tell u that we'd like u to get some information about your business with your agencies because it's not our fault if they work bad, then we have to stand (and shut up) your complaints as if it were our fault. Some irish guests blamed me because they thought that their money was in the hotel's account (???) and that we didn't want to host them. Oh, of course, u were scammed and now your money is ours... come on!!
Please, get some information about your agencies and stop blaming us for them. It's your travel agency that must advice u if there is any problem! I repeat: if they are not serious, it's not our fault!! |
Re: roomsnet.com warning
Like many of you, roomsnet repaid the original amount but as I had booked rooms for 6 adults it cost me another £553 which I am still trying to get them to repay my mastercard company.

Re: roomsnet.com warning
Has anyone actually been repaid the extra cost to stay in the hotel. I received the refund of the original cost 2 weeks ago but not the extra money. They also gave me my birthday gift last week (£5) so are obviously still trying to get my custom.
