Hmmm
Interesting. I have the following on a NTL 100 silver modem: ********************* Network Access : Enabled Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 bps Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000 bps Maximum Number of CPEs : 1 Software Upgrade File Name : ntlhm100_ntl0001.cpr Software Upgrade AdminStatus : allowProvisioningUpgrade Software Upgrade OperStatus : completeFromProvisioning ****************** However, no change what so ever in speed. I was on 3Mbit - if anything its slightly worse. Reported this to faults who ran some tests but could not find a problem. Could be a general network problem I guess but I can not even get Microsoft downloads to go any faster than before. It does make me wonder if the 'software' side of things at the modem are being upgraded, but if the 'area hardware / software' is not up to scratch then it will not work. Its a bit like installing a larger water main pipe into your home - but still only having the same amount of water flowing in (perhaps).. Mark |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
no BBB thats only nearly 5mb downstream and 62k upstream but yes they have upgraded u but alot of ppl cant get the 10mb down unfortunatly you are one of them :(

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
Just use a little bit of commonsense and things may be a little clearer.
NTL could either upgrade everyones speed at the same time or they could stagger the implementation over a lengthy period. If they upgraded everyone at the same time there would be massive problems everywhere and the telephone systems would go into meltdown. There can be many reasons why some areas and individual customers may not be ready for increased speeds to be implemented. Just stop and think what most people would be doing if it was announced that everyone would have the new speeds at precisely 10:00 am on Tuesday 8th November. Everyone doing speed checks to make sure that they had got the full 10 Mbps and finding they weren't even getting dial-up speeds. Because the speed increases are being phased in over a period of time it is impossible for NTL to send each CSR an email giving details of each and every circumstance that is possible with the upgrades. Some areas may be able to get the upgrades, some won't. In the areas where the upgrades are available some customers may be able to get the upgrades, some won't for a variety of reasons. When a customer calls CS the agent may try to upgrade them but the system may not let them do the upgrade. If an agent gets a couple of situations like that they may think that the same situation will exist for all callers and wrongly advise further callers that they cannot be upgraded. No CSR is going to have the full story with all its if's and but's the very second that they start work on the first day that the new speeds are available. You will therefore get the situation where you call several times and get a different story each time. |

well i've spoken to a nice welsh lady at customer services this morning and she told me all those who have upgraded to 10 mb from 2 mb will be paying 37.99 a month instead of 24.99 because ntl haven't started doing the free upgrades yet for people on 2 mb.
so i suggest if you upgraded from 2 mb check that your still only going to be paying 24.99 i'd be surprised if you are. regards hc |

I was wondering whether those people having slower download speeds than expected, need to alter their RWIN settings in Windows?
When I went from dial-up to 150k, I noticed that my download speeds were very erratic when doing Robin Walker's speed test http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...speedtest.html . Running the Tweak Test from here http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks showed that my RWIN value was not optimised. After changing it, the speed test showed a higher & more consistent speed. I am not on 10Mb (yet) so can't check it myself. |

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
Ok I upgraded online just to see how well it performed.
I get maximum upload 60kB/sec But download is as expected I cant get anything to max me out, the fastest I got was of my german server at approx 490kB/sec (4mbit) adslguide gives me this Testing downstream speed... Downloaded 2097152 bytes in 4495ms (3644 kbps) and robin walker this Wed, 9 Nov 2005 14:30:11 UTC 1st 128K took 4031 ms = 32516 Bytes/sec = approx 271 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 219 ms = 598502 Bytes/sec = approx 4980 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 203 ms = 645675 Bytes/sec = approx 5372 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 235 ms = 557753 Bytes/sec = approx 4641 kbits/sec I dont know why Leics was upgraded but of quite a few sites my download speed is DECREASED which is possibly a result of bigger chunks sharing the same pipe, I am defenitly on the 10mbit as (a) my upload speed is correct and (b) my modem diagnostics page shows the new config. I am happy that I will be able to do more things now without worrying about saturating my own bandwidth, ie. download of ftp and browse at same time without affecting ssh but dissapointed unlike telewest user's are reporting not a single download source even .uk gives me 10mbit burst. So mixed reaction. Like others I am on a retention discount which scared me off at first but I noticed the 2mbit was billed at £24.99 and the discount as a seperate CR so I assume the discount will stay in place and I will now have a discounted 10mbit. |

Oh dear! I have just been told that the samsung stb is no good for 10mb. Spoke to a few people in cs, sales and retensions, they are saying that I need to have the box replaced with a SACM, I just dont get it? these boxes are less than 2 years old! So all the upgrades at the moment seem to be for new customers and 3mb users only that have SACM's, I hope someone can prove me wrong.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
Latest story from CS (option 5)...
Only available to some customers "on a trial basis". Basically, they will let some customers in an area have the upgrade, but not others. |

FINALLY!!!!
WOOT Literally about 12 attempts to get it. Every possible answer except, done for you sir. Retentions told me I have it, which I didn't. Guy after told me it isn't on his menu, but if it was he'd do it. Retentions again, excellent woman who was on the ball...said i'll do it for you...but let me check to make sure you can get it. Came back and said, yes some customers are allowed it, but i can't promise it'll work till its fully tested by december. But if you wanna try, i'll do it. Said ok, instant reboot and Bingo...finally 10mbit. 3Com CMX here....max I can get is about 820k/s! That'll do till i can be arsed to change my modem for a proper 10mbit capable one. |
Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)
Well i phoned the number above, got through to a nice lady, and she stated that no the 10mb service will not start until December, current users are trialing the service.
I asked her about what people are saying on this forum, about them upgarding from 1-2mb to 10mb and she said no, i said people phoning up to upgrade and she again said no, not possible, does not start until December. Unlucky for me i guess |

Well I got my cablemodem replaced today and now have the 250... rather tiny it is too when compared to my old 3com CMX. :)
Anyway, the CS are now refusing to upgrade me saying they can't do it on their system. I knew I shouldn't have asked to go back to 3meg until I got the new modem. :( Might try again shortly using option 5. |
